The long rest in the middle of this song is everything. It's imperitive to the meaning of the song, and it leaves an uncomfortable and beautiful space for the Spirit. I hear him yelling over me, demanding I turn from fear's distraction and listen to what he has to say. I love the way Joe's cover honors that extended pause. 🔥

I feel the same and was just thinking this the other day while listening to this song, that I admired their/his bravery of being honest. So maybe this is just my interpretation, but you singing "Jesus, where are you?" while surrounded by the plants is a reversal of Adam hiding in the garden and God looking for him.

I'd never heard this song before Joe made this cover.... and the very first time I heard it, I was not expecting "Jesus" to answer. I had chills over my entire body and tears just started pouring out. In that moment, I didn't even realize how badly I needed to hear that... but He did and He delivered His message to me through this song. I can't explain how much this cover means to me. I listen to this anytime I need a jolt of inspiration, a little boost of morale, or even just when I need a spiritual "hug."

I was introduced to this song awhile back through a playlist you shared. Hearing this song at the time felt like Jesus climbed down into my hole of darkness, depression, and anxiety, and just sat with me until we were ready to start climbing out. Thanks for that.
Was just playing this the other day and felt like no one would be able to do this song justice as a cover on guitar.

I also am stunned by the effect of playing that second half so softly compared to the (wonderfully) chaotic way that Chad plays. It's a whole different kind of powerful--like, God's gentle love is also strong. Makes me think of the still small voice in 1 Kings 19, which is a perfectly fitting story for this song too.

This is by far the most transparent worship song I’ve ever heard in my life chad got a lot of backlash for his choice of words but I believe that’s how Jesus wants to come with what’s in our hearts

This is straight up blues where the rubber meets the road type prayer and rightly delivered with simplicity and humility. LOVE you Jesus for being with me through thick and thin and forever.
