I love this! Ive been making gourd bottles and canteens for several years and nothing beats the uniqueness, eco-friendliness and do-it-yourself-ness of them (not to mention theres no plastic to leech nasties from if its a concern for you) and one of my favorite things is the customizability. Ive woven nets around some, done intricate pyrography designs in others, theres no end to what can be done. Ive also made small gourds into things like salt or tobacco bottles, with really cute little figural stems carved from wood or sculpted in milliput. One technique I havent tried yet is carving the outer shell just enough that the shiny outer layer is removed in a design, then hang it up somewhere dry and fill it, unwaxed, with very, very, VERY strong coffee and wait. As moisture is leeched away, the coffee stain is pulled through the shell of the gourd where the outer rind was cut away, darkening it permanently. Sort of like an inside-out tea egg. Then you remove the coffee, give it a good rinse and let dry and wax it as normal. I believe that technique comes from hawaii but its been a while since i heard about it. Anyways, thanks as always for the great videos and sharing this sort of stuff with the world!

I saw this in a cartoon when I was a child, it was one of the various makings of Sinbad. He was drinking from this thing 😂 ever since I kept actually looking for a water bottle that looks like this lol
Uhm did you know there was an anime on sinbad?
Hope Wee loves his bottle gourd. And thank you for video. I will be getting some Calabash seeds and make some bottles with my lovelies next year.
Thank you so much Emmy^^
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
ur voice is so calming, i like it!
Lol somehow i forgot today was Saturday so in my mind i was like "why is emmy uploading in the middle off the week?" wooowww 😂😂😂 i gotta get it together hahahaha
I think my favourite part of Emmy's videos are the little bloopers at the end. So funny! The "Why?" at the end made me laugh.
😂
Greetings from El Salvador Emmy! We call these "tecomates" over here, which comes from the nahuatl "tecomatl" meaning clay pot. Farmers use these to carry both water and seeds, but nowadays is mostly a decorative piece.
Great video. I really love and appreciate the thought you put into leveling the sound. I watch videos too late and often have to urgently pause or scramble for the volume to turn it down. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see your other vids.
All one needs now is a massive sword, and you are an anime character.
demon slayer reference??? .,.
@@shaf1010 more like every drunken master or samurai type characters, I don't think KNY is known for these water bottles tho
-Zoro has entered the chat
Did you not see that saw she pulled out? lol 😂
Or sand
Nice done!! We call it “pichorra” at the Canary Islands! We do a finer inside polish with sand, in case you want to try again!
How do you mean? I'm curious.
@@VeryCherryCherry Like she did with the beach pebbles, but with sand.
@@VeryCherryCherry as Ms. ChuckFu said, you’ll take some clean sand, put it inside the gourd, and then shake it, you can repeat it as many times as you want, but at least a couple, when it’s poured out and no more membrane comes out with the sand. Then you could rinse it with water, to eliminate the dust, let it dry a couple days, and then seal it with wax.
I hope it helped!! Stay safe!
@@Ana_Oliveira yeah! I know that also means "piñata" in some places!! Quite a funny thing! I suppose that's where the word came from 😁
I just love that you wanted to make a bottle out of a gourd... not many would think of it! But this is soooo cool
Been done for centuries in many areas of Asia.
Latin america did it too! check out "tecomate"
It's done in Africa too, it's called a calabash
That is so fascinating!! Makes me want to try this someday when i have garden space!
Idk why it made me laugh when she was like "now i'm just going to use a-"
Me: a knife hehe
"Saw! *whips out huge saw*"
i first saw one of these gourd bottles in a thai village! super cool to learn about!!
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
My mom and I have been growing “vine okra” for years. We had no clue they were loofa sponge plants until last year. They are delicious!
Emmy pulling out the saw caught me SO OFF GUARD I almost jumped GNDKSMS

You are most welcome. 🧡
Alternate title: How to make a healing gourd
And her name is Emmy!
I cannot wait to do this summer. How fun and useful. Thanks for teaching us❤
That was very cool. How is your brother doing? I remember watching a video where you cooked together, you can tell you have a great bond. ❤️❤️
Oh we call water bottles a ''gourde'' sometimes in french! Never thought about the connection between both 💡!
No we don't
@@sanicthehoghedge8053 maybe not where you're from, but we do here 🤷🏼♀️... You can Google it!
@@sanicthehoghedge8053 Heu oui, je ne sais pas où tu vis mais une gourde c'est bien une bouteille d'eau.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
A method that i accidentally discovered fir drying gourds is burying them underground for about a month and then when you dig them up all that's left is a shell. I buried a mini pumpkin and was surprised to find it perfectly preserved when I dug it back up. I turned it into a little purse
Please, I need to understand how you turned it into a purse
@@MaxsFriends it was inspired by a pumpkin purse i saw in a 1920s magazine. I drilled two holes on either side to put a handle through, then a put a tassel on the bottom and put a string to act as a hinge for the lid
This gurll literally gonna survive zombie apocalypse
she has so many talents
Bottle gourd bottles were very popular in rural area of bangladesh, very handy to store dry foods
Hello 👋 how are you doing
This looks like such a fun project. Kinda wanna try it 🤔
You literally have to be like the coolest friend to have ngl
Monecious actually refers to both plants that have flowers that self pollinate and plants that have male and female flowers on the same plant. A better way to say it would be that they have imperfect flowers. 👍 Love your content! 💜
You can also make a lamp by drilling many small holes and glue some colorful glass. I have seen lamps in Europe in restaurant sphinx
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
That's awesome! Always wondered how they did that. We grow some and have cleaned them up and the ones with the most interesting design pattern were clear coated as decoration.
Emmy is a national treasure. 💛
Here in Brazil we call this “cabaça”, my grandfather would cut it in half and use it as a shell to feed the farm animals
we use gourd cups to drink mate here in south Brazil!
i love that she ads fun facts when shes doing her projects
All you need now is to not sleep and get those dark circles around your eyes. Gaara cosplay complete!
"Be careful it's easy to make a hole too big!" *uses biggest saw ever!* 🤣🤣
You always introduce me to things I've never seen before lol! So stinking cute Emmy!
When she whips out that machete, I thought you was gonna use a small hack saw 😂
When did she use a machete? Saw her use a big saw, no machete though.
she is like that one person in almost every game that knows how to do like everyhing and is rly gud at it and they r like a guide
Fun video! Your energy is contagious!
Why did I hear “warm, loving plants like tomatoes” instead of “warm loving” 🤣😂🤣 I mean, tomatoes are warm and loving in my eyes
I thought the exact same thing! Took me a minute to figure it out
@@bethrivera867 I still don’t get it
@@dawsoncarpenter2244 We thought she said "warm, loving plants" as in, the plants are caring and loving.
What she actually said was "warm loving" as in, plants who like a warm climate.
@@bethrivera867 ohhh I get it I thought that too

The way that saw came out of nowhere was hilarious LMAOOOO
If you mark on the Cork where the rim fits you could maybe add a layer of beeswax directly above and below to create a better seal?
