I only work out of my premises but I find the idea of mobile mechanics quite interesting in terms of how you work the logistics and unforeseen issues - finding your content interesting. As for cancellations, your customer sounds like a fantasist and you were totally fair with the deposit. A mobile guy I know always asks for a deposit when the parts bill is over a certain amount. Sadly, customers don’t see the knock on affect of their actions, whether it be not paying in time, not disclosing other issues with the car until they turn up etc. You’re doing a great job 👍
Interesting to see other mobile mechanics, it is like one of my typical weeks, similar problems like a customer cancelling when it was going to be to only job of the day. You are doing a great job there I have recently stopped working as a mobile mechanic and started working at a local main dealer. It's almost a different job altogether.
Thank you, appreciate that, I’ve actually subscribed to your channel for some time now and always liked your repair process. I totally get why you are going back into a main dealer for all the reasons you pointed out in your last video, it can be tough but for me the good outweigh the bad, hope to still see some videos from yourself 👍
It certainly has many advantages being self employed, the main dealer has changed a little since I have been away from it. I like the idea of being able to get a mortgage again sometime soon. Maybe then I could do some work from my house, something I can't really do where I am now. I have subscribed to your channel too. Cheers Matt
I feel your pain - I usually call/message the people who I think will let me down a few days before or the evening before to make sure the job is still on. Shouldn’t have to, but it gives me a bit of time to fill the space if need be. Customers can be a pain! Keep up the good work! Just seen you have a new van - I loved kitting out my new van, although it took me a while between jobs and evenings! Much easier to be able to stand up in the van and more space 👍🏼
Yeah 99% of the time you get a feel for who will be a bit flakey but luckily it’s few and far between. Yes, being able to Stand up in the back of the van with space on cold rainy days is a godsend.
On 1.6 tdi diesels when replacing fuel filter turn it upside down when starting then leave it a couple mins to get the air out and slowly turn back over
just subbed👍 looking forward to more content. ive been mobile for around 9yrs now and i prefer the cold 😂. ive never thought about deposits incase of cancellation, i usually let them chase me🤦♂️
excellent ride along video you are very patient and your workmanship and attention to detail is great i know how hard it is having worked mobile for about 4 years and after 25 years on breakdown retired now

Yeah the peugeot oil filter housing definately stupid place put it. Had one recently wow that cap was tight on took me at least 15 mins to get it off, like someone impacted it on, won in the end, no damage
unless its a regular customer i ask for deposits from everyone, the days of people cancelling and me loosing out are now over, ive been using the same tyre company for years for me vans and even they still ask me for a deposit before they order tyres for me
Yes make ‘‘em deposit I have a cancellation policy for my office that forfeits deposit if it’s a 2nd cancellation short notice. No such thing as jinx but sometimes we speak too soon ie snapped bolt.
You can get chemicals you can either put into the fuel system or aerosoles you can spray directly into the intake system whilst the car is running but caution should be had when doing this, and to be honest it’s a temporary measure most of the time
Love this type of content and learning how to do the job right. Only thing I’d like to see more of you do the repairs….like I said to see how to overcome any problems there might be….maybe use an head cam? All in all great video now I’m subscribed looking forward to see more of what’s to come…..

the first job (fiesta) the plugs you replace to stop the coolant leak. U call it a coil plug. or is that just your accent. I've always called them Welsh plugs. do I gotta clean out my ears. ? I'm just curious.
Good content, as a punter I consider this, do my job, tell me what I owe you, I pay you, sorted. But what happens guys sends bill 2-3 wks later with mad numbers, small detail blah blah by that time we feel bumped, reality is , too busy to invoice or can’t be arsed , when it comes to it Pepe’s making stuff up, coz they’ve forgotten exactly what they have actually done or hours, then get the hump if you question hrs etc……tell me I got it wrong 😢 😮😅
Generally speaking I give a quote before starting work, take payment at time of completion, sometimes I’ll just say transfer me later when you get a chance, if they are regular customers. That way everything is clear as day.
Thanks for your reply, and I get it. Or your point. But rarely in my experience did I get a clear cut diagnostic hmmm 🤔 let me see. My point perhaps was do my job , tell me how much, and I sq you up. I didn't want 30 days, I want you to pitch up next time when I call, called a relationship lol

Hi, What would you consider the going rate for an egr valve and cooler replaced? And would you recommend new or second-hand/ reconditioned... By the way, it's a Volvo V40 D4 r design 2.0 diesel year 2014, Just want to make sure I'm not getting taken for a ride as I'm a new driver and never used a garage/ mechanic before
All depends on what car and what the book time is. Again hourly rate is subjective depending on where in the country you are, but I’d say £35 p/h is way to cheap, where are you based?
I’ve had a discussion about prices with another mobile mechanic mate of mine, based in Cardiff actually, but I’d imagine around there between £60-£80 per hour?

just wondering if u have an idea of what common issue would be with 2014 ford focus diesel. clutch getting stuck half way up when changing gears?
Only really 3 things it could be, part of the hydraulic system, so clutch slave or master faulty or lastly clutch release bearing 👍

Hi, all depends on the garages labour rate and how much they can get the part for, should be around 2-3 hours labour I believe.
@kerbsidemobilemechanic general ball figure, within a few hundred pounds either way
Let’s go off £70 p/h, that’s £210 labour, no idea how much a EGR/cooler is on one of those though, isn’t showing up on my suppliers site.
