As a beginning painter in my 70s I want to thank you for these very basic lessons. It gives me the courage to get in there and give it all a try. Thanks again from your Texas USA student .
Clive, I find your method of teaching so easy to follow, you cover every aspect of painting and make it all look so easy. Love the Welsh accent having lived in S.Wales for a number of yrs. Thanks again for all the tips. Mary Thomas.
Thank you 😊 Mary with a surname of Thomas I'd be surprised if you did not live in Wales jones and Thomas are well know Welsh names keep up the good work
You are really a true artist! I can't thank you enough for your generosity and your willingness to share all these wonderful tips with us! Your new subscriber from Las Vegas, USA M
Many thanks for sharing your incredible skill. I appreciate your talent and your time and your effort to help a beginner. I am thankful to learn so much about the various brushes!
I enjoyed your humour, accent and demonstration.🙏🙏🙏 You always bring smile on face. "NOT A MAGIC BRUSH" "Lamp nearly cracked my head"... I laughed hard. 😁
This is the best video that explains exactly what each brush is capable of creating. Your explanations are clear, concise and you follow up each description with a visual aid. The putty was a great idea to hold brushes up for us to study. I'm brand new to painting and see that I have a lot of work ahead of me. Like you say, practice, practice!
This was a refresher for me and it was really good. I had forgotten so much since I had not been doing landscape and been doing more controlled paintings. Thank you, I enjoyed this very much...it helped me. I am glad I watched. You can teach an old dog new tricks.
Thank you so much for such a well laid out and descriptive video! I am only just beginning, and with only a handful of brushes, I'm learning very quickly that they don't substitute well. I'm so glad I found your video before buying more brushes, now I know what to get.
Thank you for being an amazing sweet teacher. I like your keep it simple approach. I've just started painting (finally found a hobby) and I will be learning from you. My two birds on a branch came out really well. No-one believed that I painted it. LOL Keep up the good work!
Leann Faber Good for you! I've painted for many years, been on computers almost as long (pre-DOS 1.0), yet don't know why I didn't think to look up art stuff online, other than shopping, until recently, about 6-9 months ago. WOW! A lot of GREAT stuff online!!! I don't know Clive, but he has some wonderful videos! There are old Bob Ross videos that I used to see on PBS, some from the 1970s!, as well as quite a number of other paint parties, tutorials, etc. As long as I've been around, I still learn (& am reminded of) techniques and ideas from others. What an exciting find! You might want to check out others too! There's a lotta good techniques to be found on RUclips, and some ideas that are so overdone, you might want to avoid too! Clive's videos are quite good! Great to see more people creating! It's a really great way to relax & take your mind off the world for a bit & create something beautiful! When you learn the basics, you can take a photo & paint that, then eventually tale paints, go to a favorite place , & paint it, or do abstracts, or whatever! Clive, from what I've seen, is quite a good instructor. I love that he mixes his own gesso & other mediums too! I am starting to mix my own paints, and it's another world! I'm SO glad I took chemistry in college!!! I hadn't thought of my painting as part of that, as the only art I took in college was art appreciation. I drew, painted, etc. separately from school. Retirement is allowing me to do this for fun now, to play in it. Funny, I was so busy in college that I didn't take classes in art. I painted, but not for or at school. I wish I'd had time, or felt like I did, to take some classes in say color theory, etc., although I've done a lotta this on my own, and I painted a LOT before College, drew & did some rugs & things while in school, and did fewer paintings then, although I was outdoors a lot, and did take a lotta pictures that many people didn't understand why I did (clouds, sunsets, etc. that many thought was a "waste of film" & told me so, but that didn't stop me... it seemed like I had 2 lives sort of... I loved the clouds & sunsets, as well as underwater shots that many others didn't seem to understand why I took pictures that weren't necessarily of the "postcard" variety.. I did paint better as a result, although wish I had taken pics of the paintings I did back then! I only have the 1st oil painting I did as a teen, which is an abstract sun picture. I used to paint with Bob Ross & another guy on PBS. There have been others over the years on PBS as well! I sold & gave away a lot of pictures when I was younger! Finding others teaching & learning online on RUclips opens a while new world! Congrats on picking up a paint brush! :) show us what you come up with when you are ready, yet not before then! :)
Thank you very much for clarifying. I spent the better part of the day looking for a video just like yours. Ive been painting acrylic on canvas for less then a year and find I love painting trees most of all. Your video has helped out greatly. Thank you again.
Hello Clive, so nice to have found you! Thank you so much for sharing....you make it look simpler than it is.....which is good because it motivates as to try for ourselves! I've got a long "road" ahead....and i think it will be much easier if i pay attention to your advice's and your experience on the subject...so thank you very much!!! marina

Tell us about lighting on a budget. I see you're using a lamp there. Would be lovely to know how many lamps you use and what light bulbs.
Daylight bulbs are best. The lighting I use is for videography not for painting there is a difference but for painting daylight bulbs are best
