    One of the best series of the 60's. Scared the shit out of me when seeing this as a kid.

    This show was better than Twilight zone as a kid, Robert at 66.

      I agree. The Twilight Zone was a little more cerebral than a 6 to 9 year old kid could understand, or at least want to. The Outer Limits was filled with creatures that could do things that stole your ability to have a safe place, even in the daytime.

    Those sounds combined with that haunting music absolutely creeped me the hell out as a kid.

    The Forbidden Planet was the first to use completely synthesized sound. The Outer Linits expanede on that...

    Those horns or trambones going up the music scale always frightened me to death. So much suspense in D.F. music score!!!!!!!!!

    The Outer Limits seems to always get over shadowed by the Twilight Zone.

    If anybody was wondering if the "morse code" or more properly, the CW signals said anything they did not, no hidden msgs or otherwise. Take it from an old HF radio operator. 73, WD8NLS/7

    I believe the same “Morse code” sounds are to be found on an old Disney SFX LP I had as a kid. Also, your up can hear the “clicking” SFX used for the Robbie the Robot - first seen in Forbidden Planet.

    I do love the outer limits effects. Some of the effects are stock, I heard them on “Science Fiction Theater” and one used often is from forbidden planet the one where the monster from the id is attacking Morbius’s house. At 9:16 It’s a swooping up down sound used on OT as the shuttle is returning to earth, Six finger return to present evolutionary human and a few other episodes.

    I actually have this on an old audio tape collection. Always disappointed me that they didn't include the sound of the O.B.I.T. mechanism. That thing made one creepy sound.

      um glad you mentioned that, it's a classic, used in many episodes, my fave was the one in the machine that reversed time when the woman shot the guy coming out of the elevator, it had a lot. when we were kids, we used to immitate it... new new new new new new new new new new...

    Check some of the tracks on NASA's SoundCloud Website, in particular the audible-frequency "translations" of Voyager and Cassini recording "planetary sounds". Some may make your hair stand on end...with familiarity!

      It's been out on DVD for many years. You can also get them at iTunes as downloadable shows. One of the best shows of it's kind ever done on any medium, the writing camera work and the list of actors is comparable to another legendary show, The Twilight Zone. Indeed, many of the episodes from both shows are often mistaken for being on the other program.
      Get this series and enjoy the ride!

      +Francisco “Disco Snuff” C This is pre synthesizer stuff. It was imagination and reel to reel recorders. playing with tape speed and combining sounds.

    • @donwebber7034
      @donwebber7034 2 года назад

      Some of the stuff was made by recording vacuum cleaners and speeding them up and slowing them down ref:outer limits companion. Some alien voices are “ham radio” single sideband slightly mistuned to give eerie effect.
