Excellent look at how crossing the pond was done...old school! I wish I could have experience it first hand. These ships were such treasures. The Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, at least gives a body a basic look into this grandeur. I have made 6 crossing on the Queen Mary 2 and it is nice...just lacking the full service you see in this video. Pity those ship trains don't run from the ocean terminal to London any longer. Lastly, I made the pilgrimage to the Old John Brown Ship Yard in Clydebank, Scotland, and was amazed to see just how narrow the river is at the launching site of the great queens. The ship yard is gone, but the huge Titan crane and fitting out basin remain. Many thanks for posting this.
I never experienced a crossing on the Q.M. or Q.E. but as a young ship fanatic I managed to get on board both of them in Southampton (it was easy to get passes then, probably impossible now) They were magnificent, a far cry from today's kitschy cheap looking ships (Though I think from photos/videos that the Q.M2 is probably the nearest in quality but still a long way short) It's great that the original Q.M. survives but I can tell you the interior is now a pale shadow of what it was as it's lost a lot of the original fittings unfortunately. Yes the boat trains were a great idea, managed to use them even though I wasn't a passenger - lol
“A well-stocked library for each of the ship’s three classes” Restaurant, bars nd rec areas separated too, I bet - we already heard that the sun decks were. I index what kind of books were in third class. Probably the shops were not seperated, but dunno.
What a great video! Such a shame that the Queen Elizabeth burned on account of an arsonist! Interestingly, had history been different, she would still be afloat today in Ft Lauderdale much like the Queen Mary is in Long Beach! Imagine how many cruise goers would stay onboard prior to sailing out on the Oasis of the Seas or etc. What a shame ... I believe she was in Ft Lauderdale for a year before being sold ....

Look at all the wood paneling! And the furniture looks good quality, too. QM2 could use some of this.
Smoking room good idea too, keep anti-tobacco fanatics at bay.

Hey! Starting at 30:00 they show the Queen Mary. Lack of footage for what they needed I suspect.

Life used to be great in that era... How’s life now?
Still great
I like QM more than QE Personally
"A 'gay' spot?"
It didn’t mean homosexual back then, it just meant friendship
They don’t call it a queen for nothing.
