- Here's some video I shot of the Midwest Central Railroad during the 2009 Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. This video features the Shay geared locomotive #9, as it passes at various locations around the grounds. #9 was built in 1923 by the Lima Locomotive Works, and was one of the many Shays that originally operated at the West Side Lumber Company in California. The engine received its most recent overhaul from 1998 to 2001.

Yes I remember the guys talking about that.
I've never seen a Shay with a low whistle before! This is awesome! This railroad kinda reminds me of Roaring Camp Railroad. That railroad has Shays too. :)
That whistle is haunting.
GREAT looking shay !!! Nice Camera work !
Nice! 2:38 anti railfan device! the blow down valve!
I miss the Shay! 😖
yes there was a sign put up in 2011
@MrKoreyC Sounds more like the Frisco 1522. Makes it sound like an engine almost 2x its size!
There is now, I think they put them in in 2011.
It is?!
Great Video. I left a longer reply but youtube deleted most of my text.
Sounds like UP 844
I believe that the #7 Shay at Roaring Camp is this Shays sister
It is. And what's more, she was built in 1923, just like Cass Scenic #11.
i love this train. too bad for me that its in colorado right now
you have to be 18 to be on the engine crew
