- The Audeze MM-100 headphone offers a more neutral sound signature with some unique characteristics, even comparted to the more expensive MM-500 sibling. With a $400 US MSRP, the MM-100 offers a lot of what people are looking for. An affordable, well-made, open back planar magnetic headphone. So how did they do?

Very in-depth video👍
I had these on pre-order (first-run) but then came all the delays. I ended up canceling. I'm glad I did, because the initial shipments had some QC issues. I continued to follow user reviews and as always Audeze handled the issues with the headphones very professionally. The MM-100 are very difficult to purchase unless you join some kind of wait list. I'm still interested in the MM-100, they seem like the perfect compliment to the Maxwell. I really like what the MM-100 offers for the price range. The only other cans that I would consider in this price range is the Sundara (already own). I like the Edition XS, but would consider the Ananda Nano (a bit more expensive) if you care about gaming as well.
Thank you as always for this detailed review. I've been considering the Sundara for a while, and you have given me a great alternative, both for gaming and music. Much appreciated, Sir.
Yo estoy en la misma duda, pero muchos se quejan de la construcción de los sundara, se rompen y tienen en general mala construcción
@@guillermojimenezcerati2216 ; Lo siento, no hablo español. Gracias por su respuesta.
This is the only video I found where a person compares the MM100 with the Sundara and I was feeling I would have to buy them without knowing which one was going to be more close to the music I mix! Thanks a lot man!
Love that I found your channel Joe. Long time since tC and 419 days!
Loved your review of the Maxwell and here the mm-100. Great reviews thanks!! Edit: got mine yesterday and wow best headphones I’ve ever owned. Love ‘em!
Very nice. If I didn't already have a 2018 LCD-X this is what I'd be looking at.
Nice vid! You should check out the Custom Cans Edition XS headband strap. Super easy install stick on strap that greatly improved the comfort for me. Also makes them feel more secure on my head. No brianer for $20!
We must all consider Ollo Audio S4x for mixing. And S5x for imersive mixing audio. They are impressive. Nice video. :)
Hey Joe awesome review as always. If you had to pick these or the edition xs for gaming which one would you prefer
@GadgetryTech might of missed it during the video? Heard you mention Imaging but don't recall you say anything on sound stage and separation? Is this just like an open back Maxwell? Would you prefer gaming on this more than the Maxwell?
great review mate, and the gaming section was interesting as my Maxwell is back to California for repair as one ear cup doesn't work anymore, I wonder if it will be the same issue with that one with the cable going through the headband and the swivel will end up being a general issue on those design?
Great that you included gaming performance but would good to get comparisons to gaming headsets in the sameish price bracket ($300-$500 range). Dedicated video(s) on this by price tier would be amazing with Black Friday and holidays coming up.
I second this

Thank you for your hot review! What is better? Sennheiser 560S on PC for Music and Gaming or this slim Audeze?
Good video, thank you. I just got the MM-100 and for portable use, I was thinking that a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable would be nice (because I am using a Dragonfly USB amp). 1) what cable do you recommend for a tight budget and 2) is there a benefit in having both cups connected with cable instead of one side?
Is the audeze factory you saw being retooled or something? I’ve been trying to buy the audeze maxwell for months in Canada but it’s sold out everywhere, on amazon, in audio shops and even on audeze’s own website.
I was waiting for you to review the Planar PlayStation headphones soley for the ability to listen via RF and Bluetooth/wired, and decide between that or the Corsair Virtuoso Pro, but you're really selling this one well.
Hi. Would you have a try on the Harmonicdyne Zeus Elite. I just heard two different guys comment it has the best fps performance they’ve ever heard (beat hd560s & dt990pro & maxwell). I’m very curious about it and considering between it and mm100.
Hi Joe, have a question and would appreciate your response. Want to replace my KZ IEMs and I really like the mm-100 after watching this review but I've been hearing a lot of hype around the maxwell. I play MW3 on PC, and plan on learning to DJ this summer. Kindly recommend one, thanks.
for anyone who is thinking about ordering these, just know beforehand that the high end on them is extremely recessed. i am in the process of returning them. i wrote something about it on a reddit thread, and received a comment from someone saying they had had the same reaction to them, and would also be returning them. they're not bad headphones. i suspect it has something to do with hearing damage. i'm 43 and have pretty decent wear and tear in my left ear. i hear to about 8K on the left. my right ear is much better. nevertheless, i have two pairs of etymotics (ER3 & 4 XRs), and on the darker 3s, i have no problem hearing the high end on sia's chandelier. with the mm-100s, i could hardly hear the hi-hats in the chorus. i couldn't hear the buzzy, high-energy synth at all. when i went back to my ER3XRs, they were loud and proud. i tried a set of beyerdynamic DT 1990 pros, too, and everything was in its right place-no lemons to be sucked, there (probably not surprising, though, since it's commonly agreed that the beyers high end is ridiculous). anyway, just a word of warning. if you're 20 and have pristine hearing, it's probably not a problem. who can really tell? maybe i'm trolling the shit out of you all in a really obscure and not particularly effective or amusing manner? obama out.
Hi Joe, you always do an excellent job:)
Are you planning to do a review of the Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X?
Thanks so much! At this point I’m not sure. Beyer has responded to me in the past stating they aren’t interested in new relationships at this time so I haven’t had any support from them. I purchased the MMX-200 for my review before.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to us.
Too bad Beyerdynamic HQ is not willing, but they will see.
Keep it up man, you are doing a phenomenal job:)
Great review! Now i'm confused... I was almost set with the Hifiman Ananda Nano's for my next headphones ... and enter the MM-100s. Since gaming is a big criteria for me ... Any idea between the two which one wins, even Nano's being more expensive? (imagining and soundstage are a big priority for that directionality in fps games).
I’m debating the same right now, but leaning toward mm-100 due to the being a good amount cheaper
How are these compared to the Meze 109 Pro which you loved? Especially for soundstage.
Just curious from a gaming perspective, sound quality, imaging, etc., how does this compare to the Maxwell?
What are your thoughts on the dt 900 pro x for gaming vs. the h6 pro open or pc 38x?
I canceled my MM--100 pre-order and bought the LCD-2 Rosewoods instead. came with balanced cable and. 2 adapters. would love to see an comparison...
Can these Headphone use balanced cable and also is it possible to change these pads with LCD pads from dekoni?
Hi Joe another great review I'm going to pass on these Joe for gaming I play on PS5 only I was currently using the JBL 910p wireless headphones but the volume is kinda low I was using the beyer dynamic mmx 200 wireless headphones but the base is just just to weak the audeze Maxwell those are to heavy for every every day use so I I went back to using the Logitech pro x 2 wireless headphones and Joe so far I'm liking those or the cloud 3 wireless headphones or the turtle beach stealth pro wireless headphones what's your pick Joe Logitech pro x 2 wireless headphones or the cloud 3 wireless headphones or the turtle beach stealth pro wireless headphones if you had to pick just one daily driver for gaming audio what would you pick for PS5 thank you Joe stay safe and happy gaming to all
How do you compare this with Neumann NDH30? I know this one is a planar and the NDH is a moving coil, however the reviews of NDH are very compelling for a headphone that is somewhat similarly priced, and equally impressive across the frequency spectrum.
Would love to know your thoughts.
Thanks
I have the same question.
Does that mic also fit the Maxwell's? I absolutely hate the Maxwell's mic, I *only* use Maxwell's on PS5 out of necessity (for now) and I currently use the Antlion Bluetooth one, but the battery has run out a few times and that's no good.
Really prefer Senn 800 / 660S2 & even UM Mest MKII IEMS over any gaming headset.
I’ve always preferred the VModa Boom Pro to the Mod Mic to add to headphones. Think it sounds better.
Get the GX! Need a solid comparison with these.
Depeche Mode reference, I’m here for it.
Can you please compare the mm-100 with the maxwell for gaming, music and movies please. The pro's and con's and wich is better competitive. Closed back maxwell or open back mm-100
And both on Xbox and PC! 👀 I’ve preordered the maxwells but I’ve been wondering how an open back would be like since I’ve never had one.
Yes, I also need this video! Pretty please ^^,
Are Wicked Cushions for Maxwell compatible to MM-100?
I had opportunity to test them. it's so good product. now I trying to decide which to choose - MM-100, NDH 30 or HD 490 Pro for my setup.
If you can, please try playing Hunt: Showdown... I don't think I've ever played an fps game that makes a good headphones and good directional clarity more important.
To me, it is the main reason I got myself so deep in headphones reviews... very sad that seemingly no wireless headphones can compete with wired version or earbuds.
i thought its a pancake maker from the thumbnail
I have the edition xs and I’m interested in the mm100. Are they both worth owning or are they too similar to own both?
These are very different, I have the Anandas which are similar to the XS. I prefer the MM100s
Does it work well on a phone? Without a dac?
These Audeze's seem similar to the Maxwells, but open back. My only knock on the Maxwell's was that they were closed back. These being open back seem like the alternative I was looking for. I am a gamer first and foremost. I just bought the Sennheiser 490 Pros, but I am wondering if I should exchange them for these mm-100s. ANyone have suggestions?!
Can you do a test and video on if there’s a difference in using premium cables for headphones and iems?
There isn’t! It’s pretty much placebo. There have been many tests done and they always measure the same. With that said, premium cables can help with microphones, durability, flexibility, or even a more premium look. Just don’t expect a big or noticeable change by swapping
How much better than Philips X2 will this be, mostly for gaming?
you should do a comparison video of headsets for xbox since the platform is kind of secluded
♥
Looking to buy my first audiophile headphones, upgrading from wh1000xm3
I mostly listen to prog metal, electropop (grimes, weeknd), synthwave, and some ambient/shoegaze-y stuff
Debating between mm-100 and edition xs, anyone with more experience in this real have a recommendation between the two?
IMHO the 2 are garbage.
I just got a pair today that did NOT come with the 3.5 adapter.
Just gotta wonder how they hold up over time. I feel like Audeze hasn’t done well in their “budget” products in the past.
vs the Maxwell ?
worth it to buy this for gaming when I already have maxwells?
Purely for gaming, no I don’t think so.
@@GadgetryTech got it, thanks Joe.
@@GadgetryTechbut as a multi purpose headphone (music listening too) it would be? Is the gaming performance similar to the Maxwell? Thinking of swapping my Maxwell for a set of these and keeping the MMX200 for wireless gaming.
I spy the new Nacon controller by the storm trooper? Review incoming?
You know it
@@GadgetryTech Hell yeah, and actually now very interesting in this for gaming. Sounds like it does a lot right for being competitive, while also making a big open world feel impactful and alive. That's kind of the headphone I'm looking for, these days. As time goes on I do find the VZR a tad bit bloated, in the bass, and have been using the R70x, but wouldn't mind something a lil more...funner
The highs are really off on this one compared to headsets that cost half as much or mm-500
Mork and Mindy?
How do these compare to Maxwell? Seems like that's the better choice still, they look just like them too no?
Maxwell has a sound profile that I think more consumers and gamers would enjoy. MM-100 has the edge in imaging and sounds a little more natural to me for music, but the Maxwell has more impactful bass.
Wow, channel match in places is a bit off L to R...
You seem to be coming after these from a consumer view, where they are really specifically studio headphones
Like the cable being too long for mobile? Not a big deal. In fact, you should’ve highlighted that it has an extra long cable as a really good benefit because in a studio you’re sitting in front of a recording console that’s six or 7 feet wide and you have all your outboard gear 10 feet away and you need a nice long cable to be able to shuffle all around in your chair.
And the packaging? Who cares. It goes in the trash :-)
how many pistachios can you fit inside behind the driver
Depends on the fineness of the grind!
For FPS shooter COD warzone what is the best?
Not a Good deal for Us400 ,IMHO.
I wish anyone reviewing gaming headsets / headphones would add something like this to the video description
Works with (wireless):
- Xbox = ❌
- PlayStation = ❌
- PC = ❌
Works with (wired)
- Xbox = ✅
- PlayStation = ✅
- PC = ✅
….. or something similar. Just a thought.
Everyone interested should already know that a headphone geared towards music production isn't Bluetooth ready...
You are missing my point and that’s ok.
It was just an idea and even though it doesn’t seem to make sense to you, maybe for folks that are not as educated on headsets / headphones for consoles, handhelds or PCs, some could really benefit from having additional details in the description.
Anyhow.
….. “and Gaming”
NO WARRANTY with this company! Still wa for ANY reply about the constant Dongle disconnects with my Maxwells on Xbox Series X. Well documented now in only searches for mine ANS PS 5. NOBODY get ANY response for warranty help or troubleshooting. They SUCK and gaming is IMPOSSIBLE in Maxwells….
then what do you recommend tb?
Your planar diaphragms will crinkle next and make popping noises. It's so hard to find tbe negative reviews on them these needs to be bumped some how lol
