Lyrics:
I was watching
With one eye on the other side
I had fifteen people telling me to move
I got moving on my mind
I found shelter
In some thoughts turning wheels around
I said 39 times that I love you
To the beauty I had found
Well, it's 1, 2, 3, 4
Take the elevator
At the Hotel Yorba
I'll be glad to see you later
All they got inside is vacancy
I been thinking
Of a little place down by the lake
They got a dirty old road leading up to the house
I wonder how long it will take 'til we're alone
Sitting on the front porch of that home
Stomping our feet on the wooden boards
Never gotta worry about locking the door
Well, it's 1, 2, 3, 4
Take the elevator
At the Hotel Yorba
I'll be glad to see you later
All they got inside is vacancy
It might sound silly
For me to think childish thoughts like these
But I'm so tired of acting tough
And I'm gonna do what I please
Let's get married
In a big cathedral by a priest
'Cause if I'm the man that you love the most
You could say 'I do' at least
Well, it's 1, 2, 3, 4
Take the elevator
At the Hotel Yorba
I'll be glad to see you later
All they got inside is vacancy
And it's 4, 5, 6, 7
Grab your umbrella
Grab hold of me
'Cause I'm your favorite fella
All they got inside is vacancy

Walked into the reception to this at my wedding in 2007, still love this song and my wife!
:)
Cool
That's AWESOME!!!
you're lucky - on all those counts
Эх, а мне тогда было 4 года отроду)
I have met Meg White, shes a classic beauty all her own! They're without a doubt NOT brother & sister. They were married in Sept 1996, He took her last name, divorced in March of 2000. Remained the very best of friends, she was the maid of honor at his 2nd marriage to his now ex-wife Karen. Being from Detroit this is all basic knowledge! I adore them!
Is she still together with Patty Smith's son?
no
WHY the f... is everyone so obsessed with their relationhip? F. Ing loosers
@Kenny the G not in your wildest dreams!
Would you still revere jack w. Without Meg? You are damn right I would.
Jack and Meg seem like a Tim Burton creation.
They aren't?
Perfect!
Jus jack
Man xD
It's true😄
2:03 is the greatest.
Just always love to see Meg laughing and smiling 😊
Favorite song. They were so great. I regret never seeing them live.
yeah I regret not seeing them too, not that I had much choice - I was two years old when the band split up but my parents did manage to go see them and they said it was amazing !!
I wasn’t alive when they were a thing so same
@@avalaavaa how old are you lmao they disbanded in 2011
@@captainravioli1364 maybe he just meant not old enough because im 17 but would have been too young to actually appreciate them prior to 2011
I saw jack earlier this month it was amazing
Funny seeing Meg jump up and down on the bed, it was cute
1:06 I grew up in SW Detroit - and always loved passing the Hotel Yorba with it's big sign on the roof. It's a landmark from my childhood and the song fits perfectly.
I just passed by hotel yorba yesterday. All the bed bugs were singing this song
This is the best jumping on the bed song ever.
If you're ever entering Detroit on I-75, keep your eyes on the left, you'll see Hotel Yorba!
I love the underlined symbolism in this video. The rope that ties Jack and Meg is supposed to mean that they will always be bound together (Connected by Love) no matter how they move on or who they marry. It's a beautiful sweet sentiment when you look beneath the surface.
The White Stripe's rope seems way healthier than Fleetwood's Chain.
Nicely put. 🙏
Or...you might have too much free time.
@@heatherpierce9123 And yet you are the one taking the time to reply on someone else's comment? I guess that makes two of us then. Hypocrite much?
Or it could symbolize how he'd been stringing her along the entire time while not actually being in love with her..that while they were married he was still looking for the woman he'd call his wife one day
Meg is so awesome she can produce drum riffs with just a cardboard box and a tambourine
She proved that your music doesn't need to be all technical. The drums don't need to sound like a fucking typewriter in order to be palpable. It could be as simple as just tapping your foot.
Meg is just so fucking adorable in this video.
They are creepy, cute, creative, and completely catchy.

Appealing ? Yea there was reason why so many people were drawn to their amazing music
C
meg just has it, you can't put a finger on it but she just has it and that's why they were so good together.
im convinced that jack still loves meg deep down
@@paytopray1468 You never know with them
@@paytopray1468 I hope so
she has the look
Like Bonehead with Oasis, its that Je Ne Sais Quoi.
first listen: lol wtf is this
second listen: ...
third listen: WELL IT'S ONE TWO THREE FOUR TAKE THE ELEVATOR
When I first heard this song I listed to it like 5 times on repeat lol
I’m now at the point where it’s part of my daily routine to listen to this
Absolute toe tapper. Truly magical tune.
This is the first song I ever learned how to play on the guitar. It brings back memories that make me smile.
any tips 10 years later?
Haha learning right now!!
@@johnmacdonald7372E string on G, hammer on A string on B, open D string, strum in between picking, G to G/F is a riff he plays as a tail, if it’s just playing in general learn by ear throw away tabs, work smarter not harder, practice practice practice practice practice….. if you want to get good.
This is seriously growing on me...each time I listen to it, it's making me smile and tap my toes more and more. Loving it.
You can tell Jack's first and true love will be with Meg always.
Chance411 isn't meg his sister ?
NO They where married before the white stripes
Isn't it weird though that they divorced shortly before starting the band - and in this song he's proposing to someone else while Meg is tied to a rope that he's dragging along - and she's at his 'wedding'. Also Meg married Patti Smith's son in Jack White's backyard. It's one thing to stay friends with you ex, it's another to start a legendary band with and claim she's your sister after taking her last name when you got married.
weird story
Jama Thaughn maybe he found the name Jack White sexy and got married to Meg just for that 😂😂
Wouldn't it be lovely if we each got a Jack and a Meg at least once in our lives?
Seven Nation Army may be getting more popular lately, but the Stripes are still the most underrated band of all time.
I’m sick of that stupid song
I mean, they were hugely successful, and people still gobble up anything Jack puts out. I don't think that counts as underrated.
I live in Detroit, and I love that this hotel was like a few steps away from the middle school I went to 🖤
Music isn't a competition. It doesn't matter how good meg is on drums it still sounds great and that's whats important in the end.
It would sound awful with Keith moon drum rolls and jazzy fills. It’s a country blues song. It calls for simplicity .
It's so fresh, joyful, playful, simple, optimistic, selfless, free, lovely, clearly, hateless, uncomplicated, amused, dancefull, carefree, light, brightness, filled with love and dreams, childhood, sun, fresh air, nature, friendship, trust, faith, freedom... I can write more and more adjectives but I can't catch that feeling in words. And that song is so short like that beautiful moments, that you will remember the whole life and that give you strengh to live and be happy.

Jack White proposed to Olivia Jean in Detroit tonight in the middle of this song. I just saw them wed a few hours ago.
Yes, he brought a priest and took care of it right then and there on the stage of the Masonic Temple theater.
The video doesn't matter. This song will always be about me and my first girlfriend sitting in front of my apartment on the ground, us trading the guitar, and sometimes singing this song together :)
Dope👍🏻
+filmcrew1551 Yeah. You're the real hero here :) Thanks for giving us this music.
cute
I only got into White Stripes recently, when I watched the rockumentary 'it might get loud'. I really get now what an innovative and gifted musician Jack is. You could dump him in the middle of the desert with a jewish harp and he'd find the inspiration to write a top ten hit in about five mins flat. Damn you and your amazing musical talent, Jack! ;)
Genius...these guys are some of the most amazing artist who has the most amazing time bringing their own unique style of music to life .... love these guys...
Seeing Meg laugh makes my day everytime
I like that they got progressively happier as the video went on
Also it’s weird af and I love it
I play this on guitar sometimes I think the song just makes you happy the more it goes on :)
i love how simple some of there songs are and are just soo good
I love this. Have forever. Still discover loads from it anew 'errday.
He looks so sad when the song ends, like "aww, It's over."
My daughter is so sad that The White Stripes broke up. She wanted to see one of their shows live with me. She is only 9 and has been a fan for a couple years, she is Awesome lol. We will have to go see Jack White soon.

Did you guys see jack live yet? And I hope you two are doing alright as a fellow white stripes fan
The strokes the hives the vines and the killers are awesome but this band is in my post 90s music era bands of all time
The quintessential indie track from the last hurrah of rock energy 🪦
Jack and Meg look like they're perfectly in love with each other (in this video, imho), but theirs is a platonic love transformed into art. they are gems, anyway!
I've done that with pretty much every White Stripes song, the more you listen to them, the more you appreciate :)

It was pretty big and got in the top 40 when it came out, it was their first commercial hit
This is me & my husband’s song! Met as teens, got engaged at a lil chapel down the road. Our home is now on a lake w a dirt road & we never lock our doors! ❤ this is actually our third time together we’ve been married, divorced, and now we found our way back together again! Every time I hear this song, it chokes me up! ❤
This song reminds me of my childhood and I adore it
Its just foot stomping feel good tune....brilliant❤
This is incredible to put so much joy in such a little song ! I'm so tired to acting tough andI'm gonna do what I'm pleased
Meg is just FANTASTIC! The song is good too.
so much talent. SO MUCH. it blows my mind every time I hear your music. love you guys.
Thanks Jack and Meg. Simple and deep as Johnny Cash but still sweat, simple and endearing. Such a refreshing change of pace from everything of that era that tried to be over the top or to the max... As my parents talked about zepplin, or the stones, will be the White Stripes making my honorable mentions.

it still does
It's been a year I need an update. Does this video still give you life?

Happy that someone other than me knows what the Hotel Yorba is. I grew up across the street from the damn thing. :D
I think it might be a hotel

On I 75
@@fhirdvnk7327 Close! Lansing & Fisher. No houses between ours & 75. 😁
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It isnt fancy or hard to play on guitair but it is beautiful and better for it
They declined a $1m offer from NEXT to place this song in their adverts. That is true musician loyalty.
love everything about this....
I just love them so much
I'll always remember this song with love! I was a just staring out as a drummer with black hair and bangs and bands only took notice of me because of Meg. I'll always be thankful
This was a great band.
How fantastic ..... Damn, right in my heart.
Most diverse creative artistic band ever. Love this song, one of my favorites wish i had a sis like meg
Meg isn't Jack's sister xD
I know vet lol. I was drunk and got tired of reading moronic posts of how he married his sister....peace
He's so damn adorable! His talent compares to no one in my eyes.
This is the White Stripes at their best, I sincerely hope this clip stays up for a long time
i remember seeing the Hotel Yorba from the highway as I traveled thru Detroit on a long cross country trip and immediately thinking of this song
@PeachSurebet this stuff is amazingly perfect, agree with 100%

This is stuck in my head now
Something about this song just puts a smile on my face...
You should listen to "Lord, send me an angel" by the White Stripes. This song reminds me so much of it, it's my favorite song. ♥️
They are amazing especially live especially way before elephant the 3 albums they did were so different naive but stunningly beautiful
this song is so catchy and simple and stay in your head forever!
They are an underrated band, they have good songs
Meg and jack give vibes of Tim burton characters
I just answered this to another similar comment, but why do people say they're underrated? They were a major success, with a song you literally couldn't get away from at one point, that basically became a rock anthem (7 Nation Army). I mean ok, their heyday was 20 years ago. They were pretty much the biggest rock act in the world for a while, but the world moved on. Unfortunately, in my opinion.
We need artists like The White Stripes NOW!!!!! You could tell they were very passionate about music. It was never about the money or the fame. Unlike today's so called music which is horrible.
He is Johnny Depp and She is Drew Barrymore :) Jack White and Meg are just amazing!!!
I always wanted my Dad to hear this song. He loved the old Rock and Roll sound. He passed before I could show it to him
Gonna be my wedding song
My introduction to The White Stripes and the ride has pure joy.

Been walking by this place for years Sad to see this hotel hasn’t change much
Jack white a genius. He doesn't get his due.
Introduced into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... Regarded by legions of professional and amateur musicians as a genius/one of the best guitarists of all time... Widely thought of as one of the "best" the world over... loved by millions of people... along with the freedom from his label(s) to make the music that HE wants to make, with the people he wants. (Which not a lot of bands can do.)
I think Jacky boy's "due" is just fine :)
He’s won at least 12 Grammys.
listening to the stripes alot lately can't wait for jacks solo album
I would love to hear John Forgerty do a cover of this.
RIP White Stripes! Good memories of y'all.
Jack, you musical genius! These two are musical gods in my opinion!
Simplicity is where it's at.
If I could have any singing voice, it'd be Jack's hands-down.
I honestly feel like if Kurt Cobain was still alive, he would have been a big White Stripes fan
I forgot all about this song..I loved it back in 2004
we miss you
Music .. and insanity are contagious .. wait No Genetic .. Genius in so many ways ..these two !
Best couple/non-couple that ever were
Oh you are Wonderful! So enjoyed this song first thing in the mornin' with coffeeeeeeeeee.... I have found a new tune.. and I love it... Thank you! Xo

Glad to find that gem

Lol forgot about your channel, graduated college cause of ya
I grew up right across from detroit so i took frequent visits. My family are all big jack white fans. We did a little tour of detroit to see some jack-inspired landmarks and took a trip to 3rd man records. Kinda cool that all the musical history is 20 minutes away.
I suspect this video was very uncomfortable for all parties to film... but I'm glad they did it, anyway. Thank you.
Were they separated, but not divorced yet? I wonder if that's what the rope is for.
Agreed.
yeah and the redhaired girl is his second wife, right?
Konundrum I'm sure the divorce between Jack and Meg was a happy one sense Meg was one of the bridesmaids for the new wife... If it wasn't bridesmaids then she was another part of the wedding
What are you basing this on, that they got divorced a year before and ended their romantic relationship atleast a year and a half to 2 years before this video? You cant just asume that when you litterally know nothing else about their personal lives
Heard it on the radio today it blew my mind. Happy new year
The sign at 1:06 is easily seen from I-75 in Detroit
A bona fida timeless forever classic! Better with age!!!! 👍🐸💟
