Could you elaborate on the @3:51 eventual checkmate? My line would be king takes 31, rook takes 23 and promotes, but why is this a guaranteed loss for our opponent? I assume there's a line I'm missing, but I can't figure out what it is that guarantees a win from that state
Towards the beginning, I would never even consider P*86 because it could just be taken. I can understand not wanting to deflect the horse, but why wouldn't you just take it with the 87 pawn?
Sorry I am currently traveling so I cannot check my answer with a shogi engine. I think hx as you said would deflect the house and give initiative to habu. Px also gives away the initiative. For example p'87 becomes a possibility but also I don't like p'84. Hx again deflects. Bx is r83? Ignoring and going for the game line hx63 is now we are blocking bishop promotion with newly dropped pawn.
