I was a Chauffeur in the UK from 1988 to 2007 I drove a few of these V12 they were lovely cars to drive from a Chauffeurs perspective they made the job a pleasure I was 6 ft 2 back then a little sorter now and the seat gave fantastic leg and lower back support, you could drive the car all day and you got out feeling good, servicing these car though was another matter they required a lot of expensive servicing to keep them pin sharp, being driven mostly in the city the brakes and relatively narrow tyres took a fair pounding even at low speeds the discs were not really up to the standard for a car of its weight and performance, I remember driving a Japanese couple around on a sight seeing trip in the city for a day and the car got 9.5 mpg and that was gentle driving, that was worse than a BMW 750IL , Thankfully fuel prices were a lot lower back then, it was not my favourite car to drive that was the BMW 750il but it was the most comfortable and the best quality money could buy without going up to a RR or a Bentley. The last Luxury car I drove was a a Lexus LS 600 and that car in my opinion was a good as the 600 V12 the attention to detail was the same.

This is one of my dream cars. I'd buy one if I could afford it, but while they aren't that expensive to buy anymore, the maintenance costs would be quite prohibitive at present. It's rare to find one with the vacuum system that still works as, from what I've heard, aside from the biodegradable wiring, it's one of the first things to fail, along with the interior rear view mirror because people who don't know the car would try to adjust it manually and break the motor.
To me, it represents Mercedes-Benz at its peak. I love the styling, but only in long wheelbase form. From the 140 series onwards, the S-class only looks proportionally correct in long wheelbase form. Short wheelbase 140s and onwards just look far too short and stumpy proportionally.

Those things aren't that expensive to fix, but finding parts is not that easy.
I have one from 1991, similar to the one in the vide but LHD with black leather interior.

Correct! I have a 1998 CL600 that i spent about 2 years restoring for myself. It now is a VERY nice driver, and i couldn't be happier with it.
