- Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is a brand built on the solid foundations of a rich whiskey history, but it hasn’t rested on its laurels. Since it was launched in July 2017, Uncle Nearest has gone from strength to strength, creating the 1856 Premium Aged Whiskey, 1884 Small Batch, Master Blend Whiskey, and 1820 Single Barrel Edition - garnering numerous awards for its work along the way.
The brand is named after Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green, the first known African-American master distiller, whose story was forgotten for many years. Through the retelling of his story, the brand has picked up an increasingly growing fanbase and construction is currently ongoing at its new distillery home in Shelbyville, Tennessee.
One of the central pillars of this success is Victoria Eady Butler, master blender and great-great granddaughter of Nearest Green. Eady Butler initially joined the team as VP of Administration in March 2019 - it was later that year that her irrefutable talent landed her in the role of master blender.
In the years since, Eady Butler has made history as the first person to win the award for Master Blender of the Year, back-to-back, at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Awards - and now it’s her time to shine in the UK.
During her first trip to London last month, Eady Butler met with Phoebe Calver, editor of American Whiskey Magazine to discuss her whiskey journey and celebrate this next phase across the pond.

I finally bought a bottle today and I had just heard about it last Sunday. It’s incredibly wonderful! I usually drink bourbon, but I think those days have gone! Much love and continued success!

She makes the most amazing whiskey I've ever had! Absolutely delicious! The maple brown sugar hits the front of the palate like a marching band and slowly evolves to a light woody finish with a comforting Kentucky hug spice on the way down. Don't sleep on Uncle Nearest!
I am not a drinker of any Spirits - that is just me. I never liked the taste, but as i said - that is just me. BUT I LOVE YOUR DESCRIPTION OF THE TASTE OF THE WHISKEY! LOVE IT! 😀

Ms. Butler looks a lot like my younger sister, and even sounds like her when she speaks with a southern accent, very similar to Northeast Louisiana with such a gentle nature.. Very intelligent lady, and I like her hairstyle.. Master Blender award "Back to Back"..😊
I love the host of this show! She is so funny and personable. This is my first time watching this channel and she makes the conversation seem very casual and relaxed and asks great questions.

Hey Victoria! I heard your ancestor (uncle nearest) has a whiskey that topped over 100 mill in sales! How proud would he be today to know that his family hasn’t received any royalties or % from his “own” whiskey.. or that his descendant (you) was just granted a job in that “family” business? The fact that you and your family didn’t hold Fawn accountable to honoring uncle nearest by making sure you all had ownership in the business is sad and embarrassing. I hope fawn is at least giving you an attractive 401k. SMH 🤦🏾♂️
You know Jack Daniels never married nor had kids and who ever purchased the company during the times of Jim Crow of course erased the history. Fawn did the ground work on bringing the attention to Nearest's history and founded the company Uncle Nearest. It's obviously great that Fawn is benign more of his family to the company.
You realize the two families have been friends all these years right? Stop being an ignorant douche and enjoy the amazing whisky that they make.
Yea I’m confused bc Ms fawn interviewed Mrs. Green (Momma Butler) from Indianapolis and she was the closest living descendant at the time (before she passed) who shared stories of her experiences with him, Nathan Green. No recognition. Smh. R.I.P. Mrs Butler.
