- Here we have a Tour of our Scottish Dairy Farm in 2021
The farm fattens all of our bull calves to 30 months.
We milk currently 190 holstien x freisan cows through our 14 a side rapid exit parlour.
We try to do everything ourselves and don't hire in contractors, sometimes we get a hand from neighbours driving our tractors.
We grow barley and silage to feed the cows an buy the rest of the feeding in.

Non farmer so I'm always interested and appreciate what you all do. Thanks for sharing and hope the weather improves soon.
Thanks for the tour a big set up, lots of stock and obviously plans in hand to upgrade the buildings and yards which I am sure will make life a little easier. Best of luck.
Thanks for the tour! Very interesting!
Cracking video. Some size of farm you have. Like the layout and all the old buildings. Look forward to more videos
First class tour,a lot of stock to look out for! Those young calves got plenty of cake!🤔👌👌
Love watching your videos. And love your smile too❤
Nice set up Drew. Look forward to the machinery video 👍
Great setup the new cubicles look a tidy job
Big difference from watching you here to watching your tiktoks 😂
Thanks for the tour … plenty to keep you busy eh 👍🏼😎
Machinary tour next?
Wow must be some work for yous, loved the video, can’t wait for the machinery tour in the summer :)
Hopefully in the spring we get to see what you grow

Great set up Drew fair play
Massive farm class setup

Great Great video
.. We used to be a diary farm many years ago... 60 years... We switched to beef in 2000... Best thing we ever did... Too much time+labor on milking... 👍👌👍👌
I can understand that hahaha
Excellent
Been poor track of weather coos looking good 👍
Class farm👍🏻
Great video from co Meath in Ireland 🇮🇪
Nice set up
We stopped dairying about 3 years ago and I miss having my own farm so much, used to farm up in Scotland too, had about 200 acres just outside Aberdeen but we moved to Somerset in 2007
do you offer internships for agriculture students ?
Drew
You did great
.. Don't have any Questions... See ya on tiktok
Quite interesting to see how you do it :) Maybe I will build up the farm at home again when I'm done in the army, need a lot of work :)
New sub here love the content.
Its a big place you got there with a lot of stock.
Yes need apologise for a comment I made in earlier video I thought all you were doing was in that steadings your doing good job 👍
Worked on a farm in Falkirk for many years, its one job I miss. Loved working outside. Keep up with all your tiktoks drew.. very knowledgeable "sometimes" when your not winding up that vegan teacher lol.. its a lifestyle not just a job. Stay safe and good luck for the future pal.
Is this a generational farm? A lot of the buildings looked pretty new :) Thanks for the tour!
Very interestin to see how you use all the old buildings, looks like a lot off work.
But you probaly earn more money in your old barns than other farmers in ther new fancy ones.
Crackin keep posting i vids min 👍
I can't believe you keep the new born calves together like that. The few times I did that the group would get scours
Not ideal i know but we are short on room at the moment which is the bother.
Some feed space for the cows u wer saying a wind pipe for ur lower cow shed we had calf house like that and the air canopy up on the ridge blew off so we put it on 12" higher than it was . Total different shed now it is the air escape is the most important thing too to think about
Absolutely e a about to say the same air exit is as important!
OMG Drew, that is a lot of responsibility. Yes, I do like your stuff, Drew. I have a much better idea now what you mean when you say that you are going into the stable. I now understand that this is where the Clydesdale farm horses were kept and it is now where you have some of the calves. There does not seem to be one style of construction. More like, barns and sheds were put up as the need arose. With all the respiration of the cows and heat they produce, I can see why you need a ventilation system in some of the lower sheds. Also, I have been thinking about the cylinder on the fork lift, what do you think caused the metal fatigue? Weight of the items carried or the repeated use of that side of the loader moving weight. Awesome set up!! I cannot imagine what the fields look like and the planting, tilling, maintenance. I have a pretty good mental picture of the Pembertons' Farm. I was able to do a Google map of the area. I know you have large trees, because I saw the stump you moved. It is for sure that I will be watching to see what is happening as the year goes on. Thank you for taking us on a tour today. I will watch it again so I can better understand the construction of the buildings. I see concrete, but I also see a lot of brick. That roof over the barn that is spreading looks to be good. I hope that you will be able to salvage some of that. Again, thank you for sharing. Amazing! Good looking and organized too. Yeah, you've done good!! Keep it comin'
Thank you for your kind words, the ram on the Manitou is a rare occurrence but it does happen, just wear and tear and the luck of the draw
Ķ
great video, thanks. no bull pen? saw 1 Frisian bull at the start, do you have any more?
Legand
Interestin tae see u still hae a Friesian bull on the farm if he's anythin like the ones we had they were very temperamental 🙄 do u rear a ur own replacements 🤔 enjoyed the tour o the farm 👍👍
Who do you get all your minerals from?
Good vid got some stock about how big is the farm
luke furse looks after his tack
Nice set up! What part of Scotland are you in?
Thanks for the wee tour :). What is the cake made up of and what is cows diet other than haylage/silage made up off?
Not sure its just a blend of all sorts, calves do very well on it, it was in the video, the barley, maize, dark grains sugar beet pulp etc
It’s amazing what a healthy balanced diet does for them. My mare gets ad lib haylage from a farm Stirling way. Sugar beet pulp. Alfa A and a Top spec Ulsakind cube as the energy/sugars in cereal based feeds send her a bit bonkers. It’s lovely to see how healthy and loved your animals are. We have a local dairy farm that was closed due to the condition of the animals and the large amount of cattle carcasses laid around the farm.
whereabouts in scotland is your farm?
How many acres does your farm have?
So how many cows have yah got all up?
You didnt go inside the parlour??? What size is the herd?
That grass silage looks wetter than what US farmers make. How is the pile face cut? It looks nice and flat
We cut the pit face with a silage/shear grab, helps keep a clean face and prevents oxygenation/mold
Some place it’s a real old yard
What would be your opinion on a New holland T5070? Grand tidy size tractor that's got a good power to weight ratio but i wonder would she get bullied by a 1600 gallon tanker? Great video 👍 interesting designs in some sheds like with the second last shed you were in with the small passage with the trough, very handy for feeding ration
I am not honestly sure as I've never driven one before, however it will depend on the type of ground you have, we are quite hilly so it would likely get shoved around going down the hills, just depends on your set up.
@@DrewsFarminLife any common issues in new holland to watch out for when buying also? Looking at a TS115A possibly or a T6030 as they're pretty much the same price and a heavier tractor
New sub, how many head are you milking Drew? Really enjoying your videos.
170 at the moment, big batch of heifers coming along so it will likely boost the numbers!!
How deep is the first straw bed shed ? 20 foot to the eves ?
Yes that first shed is 20ft to the eves, we find that works best for us
You had a go at wagon silage? Considerably cheaper than running a chopper and far less to go wrong too, tidy little setup you have there 👌🏼
no, we'd need a couple of them, very pricy, we're already set up for using the chopper so we'll not need to change any time soon.
@@DrewsFarminLife I suppose if you're already running one, and a small one like that, it wouldn't be too bad, people who are doing 3-4 cuts a year entirely with contractors are a different matter, wagon would probs pay for itself in a few years for people like that
@@DrewsFarminLife how many acres a year is that old dominator doing? must be a reasonable amount with that much crimp
Do a machinery tour now
I think you need more sheds! some amount of sheds fair play
You can never Have too many sheds...
Mind that indoor arena shed for your sister when she gets that horse 😉
How many cows would you be milking cause uve nice sheds
Thanks lad, milking just over 190
Can you get an Ariel shot of the farm we’re putting in some new buildings and quite like how yours fit together
Videos up
@@DrewsFarminLife thanks bud
Machinery tour
Hi drew out of curiosity how many are you milking
I think he said about 190 ish
Good video Drew how do you find the sexed straws for the cows that hold what percentage would have females?
Hard to say, we're finding they work quite well with our cows, sometimes a male appears but not very often
Do you have individual calf pens?
Not at the moment but looking to get some in the future
@@DrewsFarminLife look at my only video on RUclips 3 raised calf pens on an 8x4 pressed mesh slat made them meself might give you an idea. Great way to start calves.👍👌
Is your farm in Ayrshire
When can I come for a tour?
If you're ever in Scotland give us a shout lad 😎
@@DrewsFarminLife if your central belt I'd be up for a visit.. let me know
@@DrewsFarminLife Leave the cow titties alone, they're not yours
*they never have been*
Psychopaths.
How many cow do you have?
From calve to cow we are looking after over 600 heads.
Good video would like to see a drawn over the farm to see the scale as looks a big spot but great vid.
What's your favourite part?
The calves. Can I just come and collect half a dozen off them? 😂. Really interested to hear more about what you feed them. Ive done a lot of research with the horses. Also do you soak the beet pulp before feeding or do you feed dry?
All of it can we get a machinery tour next
All of it
Great video drew
All o it keep goin 👍
I’m always standing behind farmers. I don’t want to risk your hand going up my arse if I stand in front of you lot.
How much cow do use have in all
From Calf to cow over 600 heads
@@DrewsFarminLife take a long time 2 feed and bed them then
why are the sheds so dark or is it the camera
Not a sunny day so less light in the sheds
@@DrewsFarminLife true but its always seems to be very dark in them in all the videos (Im not hating)
It's just not that sunny in Scotland very much, the sheds are in need of new lighting but lights aren't on during the day
Just wondering how many cows do u milk. And a great video
190 ish at the moment, cheers
Are yous milking many cows
190 at the moment
How much did the slurry store cost ?
Wasn't cheap
We still milk 50 in are byre 😂 up in Shetland
I still milk in a byre too in ireland I didn't know there was any dairy farming in Shetland
@@adamarmstrong6125 cool it’s hard work bending all the time 😂, aye there’s 2 remaining 1 just stopped milking we milk 50 and the other milks 110ish. How many do u milk?
about 40 lost a good few with 8n the last 6 months
tb not 8n
@@adamarmstrong6125 gdgd shame about tb we don’t have any in Shetland but still have to test
What does the number on the butt mean?
Helps identify the cows easier for management
@@DrewsFarminLife cool 😎. Never new that. Learned something new today. Thank you for answering 😊
Are u contractor
No, we've enough to do ourselves without contracting
U must have a hard time getting round that yard with ur big new Holland
I know all about your funny farm of pharmacy company's
What?
