I looooooooooove Chungking Express so much 💕 At first I thought it was just an another artsy movie but I was wrong, it was special though the plot was simple, the narrative and the way it was told was so beautiful

yeaaah but in order to be more open to films like Chunking Express take the word 'Artsy' out of your vocabulary, I feel like it's a term that is used disparingly by people who don't actually understand or appreciate art and real freedom of expression.

I am really happy to have found this essay, since i have searched for an analysis of wong kar wai's use of the step-printing technique.
    Keep up the good work!

Great video! I just saw the film and I can't help but feel how Lost in Translation is similar to Chungking Express. It gives off the same vibes.

Musobloke Could you elaborate more? I'm a fan of both movies.

Now that I think about it, it's kind of hard to articulate! They both feel kind of loosely presented as if you feel like you're in the moment with them. There's no feeling that certain scenes have to serve some sort of direct function to the plot like a traditional film but instead you're just with them in a moment of time, as the world passes them by. There's a bittersweet nostalgic feeling yet there's a sense of isolation in the characters. I've only seen both films once semi-recently so that was my raw reaction. It could very well change on my second watch!

Sofia Coppola really inspired her movie from those of WKW, she even said it in public when receiving awards. And even in her other movies, we can clearly see the influence of WKW, like in The Bling Ring.

Sofia Coppola said that a huge inspiration for Lost in Translation was In the Mood for Love, which is also by Wong Kar Wai.

I would say either 8 or 12 fps. you could play around with the shutterangle, so 180 or longer, like 220.

This is a terrible video. Full of broad sweeping statements and generally stating the obvious.
