Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). Finally, the audio tracks of some of the new album are up on youtube, and worth checking out. The band clearly came out swinging and wanted to make a statement. Every song on the album is a showcase of their incredible talent and songwriting capabilities. “Stand and Deliver” is a thrasher with a fun video of them in the studio. “Soldier Stands Solitarily”, the final song on the album, is being touted by some as the best thing they’ve done so far-I encourage you to see and decide for yourself!

Great reaction. This is Lovebites…everything they have ever done is this good. Metal perfection. I like to use the Dio comparison too. So imagine my surprise yesterday when, after following the band for two and a half years, Asami, the vocalist, was receiving thousands of birthday congratulations when what pops a memory in FB (from before I had discovered them) but an r.i.p. for Ronnie on HIS birthday. Yep, they have the same birthday.
I’m 63 and I believe Lovebites is the perfect metal band. The best ever.

All members are professionals in different instruments. They always (almost always) wear white dresses. All their songs have these amazing solos and almost always these are duoling solos. Asami sings in English, but not always you can understand her words because of accent and the speed of her singing.
Miyako and Midori are the best guitar duo in the world (to me).
Miho is a wonderful bass player. She was a founder of the band (one of two), but she left the band. Now they have another bass player Fami.
Haruna! Oh Haruna is so amazing drummer. She can hold this fast temp for two hours of the concert. She is the second founder of the band!

LOVEBITES are one of the most musically talented rock bands on the planet. When you factor in Miyako's skills on the piano (not shown in this video of course), you could argue they might be THE most musically talented.

Lovebites has been around since 2016, and the women became more famous worldwide after performing at several major festivals, mainly in Europe, starting in 2018.

In 2020, their career was abruptly interrupted by Corona. But they masterfully overcame the crisis, got married and had babies. In 2021 the founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and it went into a hiatus which lasted until the end of 2022. In the fall of 2022 they found a young fantastic bass player and in 2023 they released a new LP. The new LP reached the 5th place in the Japanese charts. Japan is the 2nd largest music market in the world and it is very rare that in these times a rock band comes so far forward.

This band is BIG TIME and the best in the universe for me, off the chart talent. If you like thrash metal you've got to do SET THE WORLD ON FIRE LIVE...Big 4 / Testament level thrash but better. They have reinvigorated metal and their lyrics are uplifting / encouraging 99% of the time, not depressing / dark like most of the genre. Keep it going! 🤘

This one is straight forward, but it is not easy. The solos are very good, in totally different ways. Miyako for feeling and Midori for finger dexterity. And the "monotone" fast paced parts are extremely hard to do. You have to be in perfect sync, all four musicians. Some of their more heavy songs do not have that requirement. This is actually the song that impresses most people. It shows their skills perfectly. Now, I would say they are maturing as performers, and their "The Hammer of Wrath" is so much fun.
Just because the ladies play fast doesn't mean they're a speed metal band. Also, LOVEBITES have songs that are slower than Holy War, and for that reason, these songs do not fit the definition of "speed metal" in any way.
LOVEBITES is a heavy metal band. In all interviews and at concerts, the ladies call themselves a heavy metal band: "We are LOVEBITES and we play heavy metal!" They perform different genres of metal: thrash, power, speed, progressive, neo-classic metal. Approximately 15-18% of original LOVEBITES songs are thrash metal. They also have songs that are closer to hard rock. There are songs with elements of symphonic metal. LOVEBITES also play classical music.
Try to take fewer breaks. Then you will better feel the new song for yourself. It's a crime to interrupt guitar solos several times. 🤗This is not criticism, this is advice.

Welcome to the best metal band in the world, imho anyway. You pretty much nailed it - Asami's vocals are a cross between Bruce Dickinson and Dio, with clarity and an active vibrato, but she has an R&B background, so has that as well, which you'll see signs of sometimes. Musically, they're the most talented band I've come across. Haruna on drums is amazing. She and Miho, the bassist founded the band in 2016, but Miho left late 2021 and now Fami (also really talented) is the new bassist. Midori and Miyako on guitars are the best duo around. I am Team Miyako, so I am biased, but I agree, I give the solo here to Midori. A fantastic thing is they give each other, and all the band members, equal time to shine.

Dude it's about time you found these ladies lol i would have Miyako and Midori on my favorite guitarist list except they are in a class all there own god level playing they do many styles of metal so do not pigeon hole them into power and speed to me my favorite songs are the ballads "epilogue" "Edge of the world" and "empty daydream" the "e" songs and they have toured with dragon force Hermann even came onto the stage with then wearing a white gown lol

well if you would get to the WHOLE guitar solo that's what I liked not a fan of stopping nand starting guitar solos that aren't meant to be broken up the part you kept stopping is just as much a part of the solo as their 2 solo spots and Miho coming in with the bass at the end.

Some reactors seem to have an inner clock that goes off if they haven’t talked in 20 seconds. They have no ability to understand song structure and when speaking is appropriate. It’s as if they’re not actually listening to the song. Half the time they’re watching themselves making faces. It’s bizarre.
