    Holy shit, that intro absolutely splattered my conception of the cabasa. I honestly thought it was pretty lame for a long time but that minute or two fundamentally changed my conception for the instrument. Respect

      Hahahaha! Thanks, Bob! I absolutely love the instrument and have spent some time researching and practicing many different techniques that I have found to be very useful in the studio and in live performances. Hope you dig into it as well...have fun! Happy Drumming!

    Hey guys...feel free to share this video around! I would love for it to get as many views as possible to assist developing players looking for new approaches to common instruments. Thanks a ton! Happy Drumming!

    This is just great! I have a Meinl Turbo cabasa which I had to fix with glue to stop the handle sliding around! It's pretty good now and quite loud but I haven't developed many techniques with it and haven't played many other cabasas to compare it with. Your video is really inspiring

    thanks. lesson on how to loosen chains and turn instrument into your own would be great.

    • @edwardfreytag
      @edwardfreytag  3 года назад

      I haven't figured a way to adjust my chains on any of my cabasas. I just make sure to thoroughly try the instrument and check the chains before purchase to make sure that I will be able to do all of the necessary techniques. Therefore, I don't buy cabasas online...only in music stores or at trade shows.

    Did you have your beads on the cabasa altered to be able to make them keep spinning in the gravity spin technique? Every cabasa (including the model in your video) I've tried to do this on will not get the beads spinning for any length of time close to what yours do in this video. Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Unfortunately, I must say that all of the cabasas I have are unaltered in any way and are stock off the shelf...however, I don't order them online or have them sent to me. I must be able to play them before I buy them. It's all about the technique...the key is to get the chains spinning and then start the wrist turn going in the opposite direction before the chains stop. I will shoot some more vid soon detailing the technique a bit more in detail...maybe that will help many that have asked the same question. Good luck and I'm really glad that you like the video!

    Hi, nice video. Is that casaba a large 5" or a standard 4"? I like the size of the one in your demonstration, and need to order one today. Thanks!

      Hey Donna...the cabasa in the video is 4.25" in diameter and 2.75 in depth. I prefer the soft rubber handle to wood for sure and chains that are loose on the instrument. Happy cabasa searching!

      Oh...and the instrument in the vid is made by RhythmTech.

      So, what would you like to know about the 0:40 mark in the vid or what comment would you like to make?
