  • How to select cable size? // AC Cable size & Voltage drop calculation. // AC cable design for load.
    Principles of Cable Sizing :-
    current carrying capacity, voltage drop, short circuit.
    Cables are often the last component considered during system design even if in many situations cables are the true system’s lifeline: if a cable fails, the entire system may stop. Cable reliability is therefore extremely important, then a cable system should be engineered to last the life of the system in the installation environment for the required application. Environments in which cable systems are being used are often challenging, as extreme temperatures, chemicals, abrasion, and extensive flexing. These variables have a direct impact on the materials used for cable insulation and jacketing as well as the construction of the cable. Using a systematic approach will help ensure that designer select the best cable for the required application in the installation environment. This lessons will provide students main guidelines for perform this approach.

    One question I have is that for calculating full load current will the current be divided by k factor value or will it be multiplied by k factor value beacuse k factor is correction factor means it is derating the cable current depending on certain parameters so full load current should reduce and for that we should multiply the current by k factor. This is my assumption, please correct if I am wrong.

    Some industry is maintaining a power factor of 0.95 and if we are to choose wire size then we take solar load into consideration. e.g. if we have a 50 kw solar project then Solar load will be at a max not more than 50kw and power factor will be maintained. So can we chose the wire size on that basis or we will have to consider PF as 0.8 for all cases. Plz clear.

      @@solarfacts4242
      Didn't get calculation
      Cos(@) suppose we put 0.8 then value get 0.99
      Sin(0.99)=0.0172

    Why u used 139 A insted of 142 A .
    U have not mentioned cable size in formula so how I know 70 sq mm is wrong

    • @solarfacts4242
      @solarfacts4242  2 года назад

      We have use 142 amp considering K- Factor - 0.9667

    • @solarfacts4242

      Now you have to match the current with cable data sheet which cable is able to handle this current accordingly we select the cable

      That I have consider just to calculate you can put other cable data then you will find whether you need to increase to increase the cross-section or decrease the cross-section of cable as per answer
