Big fan of the Rubino line. They roll well, seldom flat, and in my experience outlast everything I have ever used.

I just got 9,400km out of a 25mm one of these on a rear wheel. I weigh about 73kg, and ride mostly on very good roads in Melbourne, Australia (when I was over 85kg, I struggled to get 3,000km out of a rear tyre). I could've squeezed out another few 100km, especially if I put it on a front wheel, but I didn't wanna risk puncturing. I admit it's been a long time since I've counted the km I've got out of a tyre, but I'm pretty sure this is one of the most durable tyres I've had. I prefer something more supple under my hands on my front wheels, but I will definitely buy more of these as rear training tyres.

I've gone through two of the old rubinos on the back of my cannondale in the last 10 months, only a couple of flats and one bad cut on the sidewall, I've just put a G+ version on for the winter, so will see how they compare.

Depends where you live I guess! In Norway I need a 50c wide tyre with plenty of metal spikes for winter! But that's a good tyre for sensible winters like the UK :) Talking of weight, my winter tyres are almost 1kg each... my summer bike is 6.2kg in total!

Hi, I´m using these tires as a 4 season tire, but now I´m thinking about changing them up, when summer attacks again. Would you recommend upgrading or should I stick up with these ones (the roads in my country are not that great). Thanks!

Does this rubino pro tire model dry out faster than the others?

last year i was too lazy to swap out my gp4000's to gatorskins or any winter tire tbh, but i didnt really have any issues, perhaps because i didnt do that many miles. Also, i finally found a chinese winter jersey made by spexcel but branded void (i emailed them and they said they can ship without the branding) and even overshoes for that matter, got em on order and will let you know what theyre like.

Hasnain Iqbal I use gp4000 too in winter as I can't be bothered changing them out. Not a big price difference between the rubino and those, so I'll stay on my summer tyres. Best 'winter tyre' I had was a Michelin lithion. £12 a side, very lightweight and good puncture protection.

yh, i bought a white race jersey with their black bibshorts, the jersey had a perfedct fit and was really nice, quality felt great and the material really nice, it had good ventilation, perfect for our summer and even when i rode in dubai, only drawback was a shitty zip that they used which had a tendency to stick and has subsequently broken, the shorts fit perfectly and the padding rather good, the bands on the legs were really good at staying in place even when my legs were hairy but they did sometime get lifted by the wind, after being happy wtith these two i bought another set, this time a black jersey and again black shorts, the jersey had a more club fit but still was quite tight and aero, the shorts for some reason felt tighter than the previous ones that i ordered, Overall, for the money (around 25£ for jersey and shorts) not a bad deal

Thank you for your input! Don’t worry too much about whether a training tire is fast or not, the point of training is to be slow sometimes 👍🏻 I like to throw a 20kg weight vest on and do some hilly base routes this time of year so a few extra grams on the tires won’t hurt

Have them on my caad 8 nice and supple ride 1000 miles on NYC streets with zero flats. Very nice riding tiers.

You say the old rubino tyres had a slick patch which made them less grippy but tread on a road tyre offers less grip than a slick tyre (except when off road). No hate, just saying

    • @CycleCallum
      @CycleCallum  6 лет назад

+Jude Dodd yeah I've read that too. It was just that the slick was a very slippery slick and so didn't grip well

like an f1 car the grooves in the tyre are to displace water in wet conditions.

      "Tread for on-road use
Bicycle tires for on-road use have no need of any sort of tread features; in fact, the best road tires are perfectly smooth, with no tread at all!
Unfortunately, most people assume that a smooth tire will be slippery, so this type of tire is difficult to sell to unsophisticated cyclists. Most tire makers cater to this by putting a very fine pattern on their tires, mainly for cosmetic and marketing reasons. If you examine a section of asphalt or concrete, you'll see that the texture of the road itself is much "knobbier" than the tread features of a good-quality road tire. Since the tire is flexible, even a slick tire deforms as it comes into contact with the pavement, acquiring the shape of the pavement texture, only while in contact with the road.
People ask, "But don't slick tires get slippery on wet roads, or worse yet, wet metal features such as expansion joints, paint stripes, or railroad tracks?" The answer is, yes, they do. So do tires with tread. All tires are slippery in these conditions. Tread features make no improvement in this.
      Hydroplaning
Car and truck tires need tread, because these vehicles are prone to a very dangerous condition called "hydroplaning." This happens when driving fast in very wet conditions, which can lead to the tire riding up onto a cushion of liquid water. When this happens, there is a sudden and total lack of traction.
Cars can hydroplane because: Bicycles can NOT hydroplane because:
A car tire has a square road contact, and the leading edge of the contact is a straight line. This makes it easier for a car tire to trap water as it rolls. A bicycle tire has a curved road contact. Since a bicycle leans in corners, it needs a tire with a rounded contact area, which tends to push the water away to either side.
A car tire is quite wide, so water from the middle of the contact patch can have trouble escaping as the tire rolls over it, if there are not grooves to let it escape. A bicycle tire is narrower, so not as much water is in contact with the leading edge at once.
Car tires run at much lower pressure than bicycle tires. The high pressure of bicycle tires is more efficient at squeezing the water out from under.
Cars go much faster than bicycles, again leaving less time for water to escape. At high speeds, hydroplaning is just possible for car tires, but is absolutely impossible for bicycle tires." Sheldon Brown

Not impressed with fitting these, absolute mare !
Wouldn't want to be doing a roadside repair in the winter.
