Understand, understand, the concept of love! One of my fav games ever (can you tell from my user name?). The soundtrack is awesome. I got it on import from Japan on CD. Remember those?
I'm moving yet again Eurogamer for health reasons, so this may be the last video i watch for a while. I'll have to binge the antics some time later, keep the videos nice and warm for me :) Love you all, Bye to Zoe as well. Thanks for the laughs, and.....teaching about he values of ....grinding and spraying, i expect nothing less :)
I have done way too much adulting recently, renovating a house while pregnant and dealing with electricity and insurance companies. So I'm fighting back now eating chocolate in bed watching you guys karate chop thin air and playing Zelda on my Switch 😁
@@julsmelrose I once saw someone fall, get their hand cut by someone's skate (no lost fingers just blood), then get up to get off the ice. He took one look at his hand, fainted, and smashed his head on the step at the side of the rink. Pretty sure he was ultimately ok, but they had to close the rink to clean up all the blood....
That dab was the limpest, most Ian Higton thing I’ve ever seen. Also, I was fortunate enough to own a Dreamcast, one of the best consoles of all time IMHO, and I had three games over the course of two years; Sonic Adventure, Caution: Seaman (which was so damn weird with the visual memory microphone that at the age of 12 had me so baffled that I wasn’t even really able to play the game properly) and of course Jet Set Radio.
There's a reason so many dictators have a thing for abusing artists. The threat of the urban outsider art movement represents a real & present danger to the System, therefore murdering graffiti artists is 100% reasonable & really quite good for society. I think the most adult thing I've done recently would be.. buying a quiche.
Most adult thing I did this week was purchase a replacement part for my car. Has anyone else noticed how adulting always costs money? ‘Grow up’ they tell you. ‘Get a job, earn money’ they tell you. ‘Give us that money’ they then tell you, once it’s too late.
As a graphic designer, thank you for your disparaging comments about Comic Sans. It’s a horribly abused font. Fun fact however it is great for people with dyslexia!
Emma Benton comic sans is my dad's favourite font only because he's registered as legally blind (total blindness in one eye, mostly blind in the other) and it's the easiest font for him to read. :)
Thanks for bring back this blast fromt he past. I loved this game as a kid, even though I was truly terrible at playing! (Please play Gitaroo Man next, I promise you won't regret it)
A friend of mine - who at the time of this story had been married two years, a homeowner for one, and was two months from being a father - told me that he didn't feel like an adult until he caught himself idly pricing up a lawnmower
Tip that generally makes most levels of Jet Set Radio a lot easier: when you start the level, aim to do the ground-level medium and large tags (the ones that need stick inputs) first, so that they're out of the way before the police turn up. The police can't follow you onto the rooftops, so it's generally safest to leave those targets until last. Ground-level small tags can be done without stopping, so they can also be left until later in the level when the police will be on your tail.
The most adult thing that I've done recently is laundry. Not just doing the laundry, but folding AND putting it all away.(Mind you if I hadn't put it away I wouldn't be able to sleep on my bed so..)
@@DragonBotherer I don't always fold and put away my laundry, but when I do I reward myself with a glass of wine or cake. Stay laundry fresh my friends.
where do those Grabby McBadhands polis think they are? A club in the early 2000s?! Not played or even seen this game before - really like the art style and soundtrack, but i suspect i'd struggle with the actual gameplay - being chased by the fuzz looks pretty stressful! Most adult/boring stuff i've done recently - painted the exterior, and repaired the interior of a tractor, and fixed a fence my dog partially destroyed cos he's a small monster. Thank you Aoife and Ian. X
I'm getting a major 80's movie vibe from the initial gameplay. Kid has to master rollerblading to save the town community centre from becoming a mini-mall.
Falling down while ice skating is a piece of cake, since you will just slide, but while rollerskating the roadrash will be a awful... Both are so fun to do though!
Yup, looks like the typical first time playing Jet Set Radio experience. But once you do get it its so satisfying... Then you try to 100% levels and its frustrating as hell again, even if you have mastered the controls.
I think the most adult thing I’ve done was get made redundant. There’s nothing quite like hearing “we’ve got to cut costs so you’ve got to go” to make you realise you’re a grown up now
The Latest adult stuff I have done. Sorting/cleaning my toolbox, bought a plunger and got frustrated on my printer for saying it's out of ink when I know for a fact that the cartridge is full.
I dont remember the captain shooting the player at all. I also dont remember the graffiti controls being soo weird. I think I played it on the PS1 or PS2
Most adult thing I've done recently? Got angry at some teenagers. Not quite 'chasing them around the street with police batons' level of angry, more 'self-righteously sub-tweeting' levels of angry
I want a vending machine that sells vending machines... God I love Mitch Hedberg (RIP), if you haven’t heard of him, do yourself a favor and look up Candy Bars by Mitch Hedberg, it’s a classic.
A vending machine for hot sausage rolls would be awesome :) Also, Aoife is the last person that I'd want to receive a sternly worded letter from. Scary.
Most adult thing I've done lately? Worked all day on my birthday, and didn't do anything special to mark the occasion. Got a day of board and video games coming soon to make up for it, though.
Was kind of a high score, arcadey game that isn't made as much anymore. Sega had a lot of them. So it was a bit awkward and clumsy at first but then you get good at it and it gets more and more fun.
My favorite game ever! I love future equally and l really need SEGA to get working on a new one! Edit: ohh and if you think that's brutality, wait until they send tanks and helicopters! The final boss is also unexpectedly bizarre, worth taking a look.
One of my favorite games of all time. My older brother imported it from Japan for the Dreamcast, and I somehow managed to unlock all of the characters and graffiti. Much to my surprise, the NTSC version of the game added two levels in New York, along with some garbage music (Rob Zombie comes to mind). The original soundtrack was composed by Hideki Naganuma, who returned for the game’s sequel, and also did the OST for Sonic Rush.
Lucky, lucky Aoife gets to play Jet Set for the first time - very jealous. Fantastic (and influential) game. I have roller-bladed once, but was pretty terrible. It was probably a mistake to have your first time on wheels (other than bikes) in Central Park. A gangly, uncoordinated Brit definitely not looking cool attracted lots of attention from sarcastic Noo Yoikers. It was total humiliation.
Wackamack 98 Indeed. The point being, this video would have done the game so much less injustice with a proper _guide_, and I suspect she'd have had a much better time of it, as well. While it's great the video celebrates a landmark of videogaming history, I don't feel it to have done right by the game, in truth.
I can see and understand your point, but what do you expect? The point of Late to the Party isn't to be a guide per se, but to introduce others to an older game through modern eyes. Your initial point about Ian not mentioning the dash comes across as nitpicky to say the least. Was Ian supposed to have memorised the controls and the nuances of movement in preparation or something? And I can't help but think that if dashing was such an integral component of the gameplay then maybe the game itself should have explained as such.
Wackamack 98 What I expected was something comparable to the FFVII Late to the Party video. I don't meant to sound harsh on Ian per se, I'm just disappointed that Eurogamer didn't seem to prioritize welcoming potential new fans of the game✌️
Again, I can see where you're coming from, but in my personal opinion I prefer to see the genuine reactions of the EG crew when they're introduced to a game without necessarily knowing what they're going into or, on the flip side, coming back to a game with a fresh take after years, even (or especially) if that means pointing out the game's flaws, which is usually one of the pillars of Late to the Party comedy. Plus, it's like Aoife and Ian said at the end: for the time, what the game was doing was pretty cool, a bit of wacky fun, even if it's a bit dated nowadays, but that doesn't detract from the appeal it has to a lot of people :)

Ian and Aoife are playing down the mean streets of Oxford but I've seen Inspector Morse that place is dangerous :P
I used to play this every time I went to my cousins' house! They had all the systems and all the games.
Pro tip. When ice skating, if you ever fall make sure your hands are rolled into fists. So your fingers don't get sliced off. Canada things 🤷🏻♂️
That is both an extremely useful, and extremely terrifying, fact. Thanks!
Eric Lough my pleasure!

not so much the day he realised he was an adult, more the day he judged himself for being THAT adult. We've all done it!
Tip that generally makes most levels of Jet Set Radio a lot easier: when you start the level, aim to do the ground-level medium and large tags (the ones that need stick inputs) first, so that they're out of the way before the police turn up.
