Agreed! I definitely prefer his solo stuff most of the time, but it’s always nice to see him in a different element. The Mike Varney Project album he did with Frank Gamble in the early 90s is another great example of Holdsworth is a more traditional fusion setting.
It's so wild to see these videos surfacing now. I was right there in the front row for this performance. This clip brings me right back to that time. It's hard to believe it was almost 30 years ago. Yikes!
i produce music. no amount of remastering would fix this bootleg audio quality, shame, because i can tell it was a great lineup. key, freaking bunny and eddie, later! you can't polish a turd, sorry!~ and that is just referring to the audio quality.
The great Allan Holdsworth with some great musicians! I saw Allan around 1982 in Dayton Ohio at Gillys. People including me we’re giving him standing ovations after some of his solos. He was phenomenal that night and most of the people who showed up were there because of what Eddie vanhalen said about him including me. Eddie was right.
This ended tooooooo suddenly! Reminds me of when I was a kid and when I had this unexplainable connection to jazz players - I must've seen them on TV performing at some point, and I really liked how each band member was in their own zone of full expression at all times, seemingly - and jazz music itself. It sounds strange perhaps, but at the time, I was mostly curious about the music because the passion I could see in every musician performing just convinced me that there was something there worth looking into. I remember using a mini boombox I got one night and listening to the radio. I tuned into a jazz music station and listened to it as I fell asleep. Sure wish I still had that little radio and knew what song it was that I first tuned into. Funny that I didn't play music until a decade or so later, though I guess that's mostly to do with the fact no one else in my house was into that stuff. I don't really have the drive to dedicate most of my time to music anymore because I have other things to do, but whenever I do pick up my guitar or keyboard, I will be inspired always by musicians like these here. Thanks for the upload.
24000 something views!!!!!?no offence but I'd rather hear this than boy george anytime just sayin God loves you deeply whoever remasters this should get the Nobel peace prize
But damn, this was three decades ago. Quality isn't great at all, but hey, this is a real treat for younger people like myself, a look into the past at some great musicians in "the" day, at how they expressed themselves in that little spot in history. In that sense, the quality is greater than great, even. :)
This awesome, but I wanna know: are they just jamming freely or playing any paritcular songs? What songs are they (if they are songs on an album I can find around)?
John Romano Well first song is a fusion vamp, with a chord progression, similar to the solo section of the song Dead of Night with a few twists. Second one is a Funk Fusion vamp in the key of E, basically. Third is another fusion progression, they must have agreed on it beforehand or the keyboardist called it out or something. And so forth...
It’s great to see Allan playing over more conventional fusion backing tracks, it brought out a different side to his playing🎸🤘🏻

This is a great document, I hope some day gets digitally remastered.

Came here for Allan, great playing from everyone , but him and the bassist, who i think is the great geniuos Bunny Brunel, are from another planet.
just saw it was on description, sorry lol
I think I was there for this concert. I remember seeing him at M.I. and I was there from Sept. 85 to Sept. 86.
Allan and Bunny !!! Heck yeah !
Tom Brechtlein on drums
Awesome! Allan playing with the Lab Series L5 amp!
Norlin Lab Series L5 amps for pure sound and Hartley Thompson amps for lead sound
The little pause at 30:33 before the final part of the solo is absolutely mind blowing from a musical point of view
Goddamn. This really COOKS. My man Allan kills it.
... Allan❤❤❤
You gotta take what you can get...but too bad the keys are so LOUD, drowning out the guitar.
This version of "New Dawn" is absolutely beautiful, even in spite of the audio quality.
WooooW This is are The Real Jazz fusion Rock!
Absolutely killer.
Man. Some serious research for a restoration of all these old vhs videos, that would be so great, but i know im asking for too much

This video is a treasure piece! Thanks for sharing. Where can I find those songs?
They need to turn the keyboard up, I can barely hear it
😂
is there a better recording of this anywhere
I have always loved AH's tone best with that Charvel strat! Actually I think that might be an Ibanez, hm...
Randy Katz hi, it was the Red Ibanez AH 10.....
IMHO the red Charvel had best tone also, this is the Ibanez.
@GMoorefan115 believes is for idiots.
@@pleximanic Putting someone down for expressing uncertainty is what's idiotic.
It's the Ibanez

Too bad we can't hear Allan.

Ibanez AH 10
Shame he's not louder compared to the band
👍
thought they were tuning up only to discover it was a song
Well, that's one way to discover that you have no ears.
Gary Husband on drums
Anyone knows who's on drums?
Tom Brechtlein on drums.
Wow
アドリブだけ、面白くない!
80's Nerd Muzak...it has the recording quality it deserves...Truly awful.
bass and drums don't know how to groove
"Can't hear the guitar so let's liven it up with some fancy video effects!"
