    I'm a disabled vet needing help. I got a barn find 47 Dodge pickup that they started upgrade to 12 v. I was told the starter was bad so I sent it to DCM for upgrade to 12 v+. It's a pedal start. Do I need a starter relay? Bench checked start and it works but in truck I get nothing.

    Did you do the headlight wiring for this car

    there is 2 circuits that should not be fused on any car, the first one is the headlights, the second one is the ignition, all the rest should be fused or protected by a circuit breaker,
    on that car, the only item that needs a voltage drop is the fuel gauge, you can use a small device or a calibrated resistor as the current consumption of that instrument is stable.
    there is substitute for the blower motor so better to replace it
    Depending on the size of the alternator, you should use the original ammeter ( 40 -0 -40 on these cars) if you use an alternator not bigger than say 55 amperes. The ammeter is not voltage sensitive so you use it without any converting gizzmos.
    Unless you intend to weld with that alternator, a # 8 AWG wire is more than sufficient to flow the power of that alternator
    The ammeter is very easy to wire, you start from the alternator to the ammeter and you start from the ammater to the battery , You tap the power consumption wire to the wire that comes from the alternator, presto, the ammater is functionning and gives you an invaluable information ( much better than a voltmeter.( possibly that you,ll have to reverse the wires as the polarity is reversed when the voltage conversion is done.

      Why do they fuse them on new cars?

    • @jacquespoirier9071
      @jacquespoirier9071 2 года назад

      @@somewhatfast it is not a good practice to fuse both headlights on one fuse, you can use an auto reset breaker so you'll not loose both headlights.
      on these old cars,there was a circuit breaker integral to the headlight switch to cover the headlights
      on the new cars, they fuse about everything but on the vital functions, the fuse rating is much higher than the actual, for example, on the injection system where the consumption is about 5 amperes, the fuse rating can be 20-25 amps, it is principally to avoid random blow up

    Hey I have a 1949 Plymouth special deluxe Flathead 6 with no spark but it cranks good . Any suggestions?

      First Check power to coil, if you have power then check your ground to the distributor if good check you point clean and gap them. Not much too it
