Exclusive NAB Live With Jarred Land - RED, After Nikon Acquisition - Where We Go From Here

  • The Nikon acquisition of RED Digital Cinema is complete. Many are left with so many questions. I sit down with Jarred Land, former president of RED, and try to get as many answers as I can to all of these questions.
I encourage you to ask the questions that you would like answered.
Now naturally, and honestly, there are some questions that legally can’t be answered at this time and there are some questions that aren’t ultimately relevant to this conversation and those will be skipped.
And obviously there will be tons of questions coming in so I ask you this: If you have asked your question, just wait for the answer. Those who know me know that try to get to every single question. If your question is not answered, it has likely already been answered, is not relevant, or simply can’t be answered at this time. Please don’t repeat your questions over and over.

Thank you very much for bringing some light into all the speculations in a very authentic unscripted interview. 😃And I liked the part where Jarred honored Nikon for their efforts, especially for the Nikon Z8 and Z9. I love those machines and I'm happy that I'm with the Nikon since 1992 and now belong to the RED- family also. 💪🏻😍 Cool that Keiji was "on stage" two times. Other great soundbites were Jarred confirming product development takes years - no there won't be a RED powered Nikon at the next industry event and not having one does not mean Nikon and RED are subsequently in a death spiral. and that Jim Jannard was as equally fired up about the deal.

@@ScottBalkum so how does stopping any company from creating a Compressed RAW, COMPLETELY free of any of the algorithms or code that RED uses "protecting innovation"
There is a reason why us Americans are falling behind in all tech industries. Because we sat on our fat lazy asses and milked the "intellectual property" teet until we lost our creative spirit.
There used to be a notion of duty to humanity in the advancement of technology.
Do you know Zeiss would often help their competition with innovation and sharing their lens making processes. Because Zeiss believed in what he was doing and wanted to see the world full of amazing lenses. Of course he was so ahead of the game the only company who came close to dethroning the Contax 50 was takumar. WHO HE HELPED!
I find it sad we Americans cannot beat DJI in drone engineering and tech. Instead we just try to leverage IP and sue them. How sad.

How is stopping any form of compressed RAW, not even ones using your algorithm or any code "protecting innovation"???
You are setting up a road block not just on the road you own but also any road that might go in the same direction.
I really don't know how you could defend this? Just pretend to be a soulless company that only cares about profits and maybe people will look the other way. But some how you also want to be known as the "camera company of the community"
Sorry you cannot have it both ways. RED, with it's far overreaching patent, has throttled what might be available for lower budget filmmakers. Why?
Oh as you say "protecting innovation"
Because you invented Compressed RAW right??? So what if the person who invented the camera put a patent on it and you never would have been able to make a camera without licencing from him?
      Your cognitive dissonance is astounding

Or how about REDmag scam, heard about that? When Jarred lied about it being a custom SSD with custom firmware. It was a consumer grade SSD with no unique firmware at all in a RED enclosure. But that didn’t stop Jarred when he lied on the Reduser forum about it being their own unique product with millions of dollars in R&D.
It was all about marking up the price tenfold of a consumer grade SSD to their consumers by lying. He didn’t even use a proper pro grade SSD because money is more worth than the security of the footage. That’s why RED is known of corrupt media.
Ever heard about the Red Hydrogen? You know the phone with carbon fibre that was just stickers looking like carbon fibre. And the phone with dual speakers where just one of them actually had a speaker in there. When it all failed he lied that RED would continue supporting it and that the accesories were just around the corner. He did this just to sell as many phones as possible before the inevitable end and failure. Then he just pulled the plug on all software updates and ran with the money.
And there’s so many more examples.
