The price for an all aluminium keyboard is an absolute rip off to be honest. For that price, I would be expecting some brass or something at the very least.
@@rousseau327 it used to be an actual brass mid before the partnership. Obviously, to make it cheaper, they are now using aluminum anodized to look like brass.
Seeing KeyCults and your channel few years ago is what got me into mech keyboards but $600 is just out of touch when there are so much in the market rn. Maybe one day…
Oh for anybody into kitchen knives. This is like when Zwilling licensed Bob Kramer’s name to manufacture knives to his spec while Bob kept doing commissions in house.
It'll sell to the type that spend 8+ hours every day in keyboard vendor discords and take endless pictures of their keyboards to post on reddit for social credit points
Novelkeycult. I like that they are bringing the design back but given that it is much bigger of a batch than Keycult used to be, I'd like to see a lower price. The justification for the price used to be the exclusivity. Now it's... the name brand? I don't get it.
$600 for an all aluminum keyboard just because of the brand or $300 for an aluminum keyboard with a copper bottom (neo 75 CU)? Yeaaaah, the choice is pretty clear.
I would not buy a $580 all alu board, but hey they will sell the board with brass weight for $750~800USD! It is so crazy. What a joke ppl still waiting like the 2023 Jan ver. no1/65 but now other can buy the instock no1 already. And also where are the commission boards? Are ppl still waiting😂?? It's 2~3years???? And paid like $2500???
How would this compare to already in stock options? Such as the KBD 8X MIII? To me it seems like its all brand when it comes to pricing making the kit IMO to be out of touch. I guess it adds to the point you made to it being designed in 2017 and seems to be priced according to those times as well.
tbh it really feels like more of a "marketing" thing than a "keycult is so back" kind of thing. It's a Novelkeys board, made by a Novelkeys manufacturer, with a different pcb (no hate tho - Yiancar makes great pcbs), with a face brass-colored aluminum weight. The only thing Keycult on this is the design language and a logo - which is 100% MARKETING and nothing else. I personally feel like it's just a way to cheese $600 out of what should be a $180 keyboard - but they know that 496 people will take the bait anyway
I desperately wanted a Keycult back when I got into the hobby in 2020, but now that I can actually afford one it just doesn't seem like that great of a buy
for those people still paying thousands on the aftermarket I suppose. However, not sure there are 500 of those people still around! It will definitely be interesting to see how fast (or slow in this case) these sell out
For the people who want to be robbed in broad daylight apparently, $580 for this board is absolutely insane and not worth it whatsoever in today's market.
Great video and analysis on the Keycult x Novelkeys collab! Off-topic question: will you be uploading a video/vlog about your experience at The Grand Lason R3 event in the Philippines? Saw your IG clips before the event and would be interested about your thoughts about the hobby in the Philippines.
If it had a brass weight would it really make that much different in sound profile? Would be interested to see a sound comparison between the original and this one.
Will be on novelkeys black friday sale in a month for sure who tf is copping up the money for this when you can get so many other boards of better quality for way less
In my opinion, $400 to 450 would be a much better sell for a full alu board, especially for our international buyers have to pay extra shipping and tax all that stuff. But good to see they are back.
The whole question about whether certain keyboards are 'worth it' in today's landscape is an easy one to answer. It's worth it for those who want one or were never able to access one in the og days. Yes, agreed value prop in 2024 is ass.. especially without the addition of premium material, but for those who have never gotten to experience one, I would agree with Taeha and say its somewhat good for the hobby regardless. Getting units to the hands of those who never could, just means that the models for purchasing are getting better.
that midpiece is an aluminium?? I thought that it is a brass or something, for the full aluminium (top bottom and midpiece) that price still insanely high by today's competition
I am not expecting much from the first drop. Like you mentioned want to see something refreshing. The 1800 keycult is a good idea but still felt underwhelming cause there are more interesting keyboard releases nowdays. This are just early stages and hopefully there still be more revision. I hope keycult will see this opportunity to work with nk team to bring out newer designs rather than just a rehash of the old board with the same design.
To me this seems like a win for fans of Keycult’s designs who don’t want to find themselves waiting indefinitely for their in house runs, worrying about bad QC, or paying unreal prices on the aftermarket. Can’t say their boards have ever appealed to me personally, as I find plate mounted gasket to be the least interesting mounting style, and I also think the price point is really only going to appeal to the keycult diehards. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if these all sell quickly even at this steep price, and it’s hard to blame NK and Keycult for listing at whatever the market will entertain.
I think thats a fair assessment; I dont see many newcomers who arent aware of Keycults purchasing this as readily for this price. You do have to be a Keycult fan to buy into this price point; the main question is whether it being in-stock is attractive to Keycult fans
@@TaehaTypes Given how quickly certain projects have sold out of late (even at the high end), it seems somewhat surprising that NK still appears to have stock of all current variants after 6.5 hrs (though to be fair, I have no idea how many).
