I'm not a farmer but I have thought about this idea of silvopasture. I did a search about best trees for silvopasture. The Ontario government in Canada has a pdf file that says black locust is toxic to cows and other grazing animals but might be ok for goats.
You mentioned honeysuckle, which is a constant battle at my property. Did grazing get rid of that on its own, or did you bush-hog the honeysuckle before? Trying to narrow down best approaches. Thank you for you answer if you can get to this!
You also mentioned that ash trees are a natural succession species: Have you noticed a difference due to the ash borer yet, or are young generations still coming up?
