Dictatorship? America? I usually mind my own business, but as italian I have faced discrimination many times and many times I have proven wrong the pregiudice without troubles of any sort. The problem in america Is not racism, the problem is the easy access to weapons: if you are a cop, in a country where anyone (black, white, yellow, brown, doesn't matter) can have a weapon and shoot, then you're scared. If you are scared and stressed you make mistakes. The cop knows that only who shots for first will go home for dinner that evening. It's not a good country to be a cop in. Fear makes people violent and cops are people. Then there is the impunity for shooting, for killing. But if the law would punish cops, then who fires guns would be criminals only. You see? The problems are still the guns. In Italy nobody can buy a weapon. You can't even travel the streets with a pocket knife, or you get in seriois troubles. But if a cop shoots at you, then will spend the rest of its life in prison. Almost nobody has ever been hurt during an arrest. But in a country where everyone can potentially have a gun, of course cops are psychotic. Of course they are violent, they risk their lifes even during the simplyest tasks. Anyway, I have always complied and despite being italian i never got hurt. America Is a Land of opportunities for those following its laws, change Is achived through elections as in any other democracy, not beating white people passing by, or robbing shops, setting up fires, and destroying cars. In Colombia during the protests of last November after a cop murdered a 18 yo man with a tear gas grenade people started making barricades with shields and they'd go in the front line receiving the damage and protecting those behind them. Also some medicine students made small brigades to treat people's injuries and wore distinctive gear to differentiate them from protestors.
Whoever in the USA that's reading this please do as we did. Use pieces of wood as shields, make small brigades to extinguish the tear gas and make medicine brigades. Have them wear helmets from a very specific color and a red Cross or something to indicate they're not hostile.

The thing police aren't getting is that the more pressure and violence they apply the more passionate people will be about the protests. They arent de-escalating the situation but making it worse.

Personally, I’ve seen ppl using the homemade plywood shields to protect myself from rubber bullets. Honestly, if we could get everyone to get these shield and form a wall in the front when we start getting hit with rubber bullets, it could be really useful
Police are also adopting HK police tactics. They are shielding their badge numbers and hiding all possible ways to identify the individual police officer, making it extremely difficult to follow up on any perceived or blatant police brutality.
