  • My dad's Christmas bigger trees have been neglected over the past few years and they need to be trimmed up so they can be sold this year and so that they can be shaped better for the next few seasons. So today I trim a bunch of them up!

    I planted one hundred trees thirty years ago and they were planted in very good soil. They grew so fast that they never made good Christmas trees. To tall and branches to far apart. Thirty years growth and I have a natural cover for my cows. They love to bed down under my Christmas trees. They push in through the lower branches along the outside and in the middle they get away from the flys. Out of the wind in the winter. The trees are so valuable to my cows. It’s the only patch of woods in my pasture. I wrote this before the end of the video. I am hoping that in this video there will be no cats.

    Learned something new. Living in the city, yiu just go to the store, pick out a tree and bounce it on the ground, just like Clark Griswald. If the needles stay on you buy it.
    I can smell the pine from here. One year my parents bought Joe and myself a real tree that we could set up in the three season room. I can smell the old bulbs and hear my mother telling us how to put the tinsel on the tree. The tinsel was from the frst batch that RJ Reynolds made. Each year the tinsel was saved.
    The indoir tree was a aluminum silver tree that two disks rotated with four colors. The tree sat on a spinning stand that had a music box that played Christmas music.
    That era ended when i did something to piss my mother off and she grabbed the closest thing she could find. She had one section of the center pole to the tree. She chased me through the house wuth this pole at the ready, over the top of her head. I flew diwn the basement steps and i heard a woosh go past my right ear. I thought i was going to die. The pole was made of balsa wood. It hit my shoulder, snapped in half and it did not even hurt. I stirred the pot more by rolling on the basement floor laughing as she said because the pole touched me last, i broke it.

    You act like you have trimmed a few trees before. It looks easy when you do it but I am sure it is labor intensive. You are a work horse. Gotta keep moving. It is nice that you and your brothers take time to help your dad. I have 2 daughters and son-in-laws that don't understand how families are supposed to work.

      You do get stuff done and it is a lot better for the person you are helping. Us older guys see stuff that needs done, and can't do it, and it frustrates us. Can't get young people to work any more. That is why I am impressed by Gavin.@@InTheWoodyard

    Great piece of property. Put that land in a conservation trust, or something similar, so it can’t be developed but you and your family can always work on it. I’m assuming you have a tree farm for tax purposes. Always wondered how Xmas trees were trimmed, think I’ll order some saplings and plant them on our property. Love you video’s.

    Hello from Chicago! Do all the grass and weeds stunt the trees growth? Would it be beneficial to weed wack or bushhog it once or twice a year?

    • @InTheWoodyard

      just when they are small once they get about 2' tall they do not have a problem.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  9 месяцев назад

      It depends on growing conditions, soil, water, fertilizer, pruning amount, sun hours each day but anywhere from 8-12 or so.

    Amazing how fast Mother Nature can take over! You almost need 1 man with just a pole saw taking out doubles and underbrush, while another one trims. Looks like the place could use all 3 brothers for a solid week easily...
    Does your Dad have a tree shaker and bagger as well?
    Do the deer not bother these type of trees?
    Thanks for the Xmas tree edumacation!👍
