I don't see how it's based on non-science (nonsense) when many people can attest (including myself) that it clears my eyesight to a degree and has improved others to varying degrees, if it's testable repeatable and observable when concurrent with the same, similar or even different situations (light, dark, distance etc) then it's Science, even if it's only proof to yourself...
It's up to the person to put it into practice to prove it to themselves, not to head somebody who has never tried and says it's nonsense because a bunch of other people said not to try it because there is no evidence, make the evidence for yourself, try it yourself before coming to a conclusion based on ignorance! Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance and goes against the basic scientific principles! Taking someone else's word for it and not investigating for yourself is religion!
Note: This is not targeted at you, only the ones who come to conclusions based on other people's word and their word alone.

An IMPORTANT thing ABOUT PALMING which I didn’t see in this video :
Do NOT PUT PRESSURE ON THE EYE BALL while doing palming!! It should be gentle as pressure on the eye ball can harm it.
The correct way to do palming is not with flat hands.
This is how it should be done:
    1. RUB BOTH HANDS TOGETHER to generate heat - The warmth of your hands relaxes the six muscles around each eye and attracts more energy and blood flow.
    2. CUP THE PALM OF YOUR HANDS and GENTLY PLACE THEM onto the eyes.( overlapping them to optimise light blocking. During palming we should aim also at blocking as much light as possible ) NO PRESSURE at all should be applied- and this is important to know.
There is also the length of TIME recommended to do palming for different eye conditions. While for most vision problems the average is 10-12 min a day, for myopia it is 20 min ( can b 2x10) ; dry eyes 40 min a day ( can also slip this time) and cataract and optical nerve it’s prescribed 60 min a day ( 3x 20).
People with GLAUCOMA should do palming NO LONGER than 18 min a day (3x6 min WITH 5 min INTERVALS)

    Palming is my #1.
    Sunning #2.
    Fasting #3.
#4 (more tedious/laborious) putting a sticker on a window & looking at it - then the distance, repeatedly.
I’ve religiously walked for hours every day (while I was unemployed) looking at the distance; relaxing af, & also sketching the outlines, and it was not effective AT ALL as the above practices.
A 20 minute palming session improves my vision 25 to 50%.
I lay down and use a big elastic band to enwrap my elbows around my neck.
Now I’ve incorporated massaging my eye sockets as I palm.
Remember: The eyes are not an untouchable/non-massagable part of the body. You can touch and massage any part of your body.

it’s like getting enough sleep or managing weight, we don’t always maintain our ideal target. When I do do them yes, I get much progress - it’s startling, I have been reading about it for years, but like meditation or gym or running, I need more discipline to do it regularly. It’s the only natural way:
Palm, sun, fast, keep work/living areas bright & push screens back. Only thing is to do it. 😊

also plus lenses for near work.
researchers put minus lenses on chickens for a while & guess what happened? their eyes accommodated & elongated…
So the reverse is also true. The eyes are an accommodating machine. That can get atrophied & or spasmodic over years of misuse. Nothing wrong there just cause & effect. Don’t sleep for a few days & life becomes unbearable lol. We have to use ourselves smarter.
Btw, the therapy is like tight rope walking. Can you? Yes. But will you or have the motivation to incorporate tightrope walking everyday, at least till you master it?
We all have time, but we just don’t use time correctly, we can watch hours of shorts, or look at a Ted-talk or we can just palm and listen. It feels like you have an extra job…but we have to invest in ourselves, what else are we gonna do?:)

Palming is the # 1 most effective tool, at least for me.
Hands have healing power/chi. Your hands can mold, massage, heal, reduce pain. Hit your elbow & what do you? Rub and hold it with your palm!
    Hands heal.
Distance viewing is of course necessary as well, but slower, more tedious & a bit frustrating, in my experience.
    So,
Lie down. Use a rubber exercise band or a waist/back support velcro belt to support your palming: put elbows inside & stretch the other end over your head or back of neck. Rub your hands together for a bit. Palm. Overlapped hands or symmetrical. Do at least 6 minutes. Nap if you want in this position. Leave hands on eyes. Massage a bit now & then.
You can use any positive affirmation IF you wish: "my eyes are perfect, I see beyond 20/20, my hands heal me, I am healed now" etc.
The fastest most healing way that works for me (when I do do it;).
I HAVE WALKED A BIKE PATH FOR HOURS EVERYDAY SKETCHING/CENTRALIZING THE DISTANCE TO VERY SLOW & FLEETING CLARITY...
Just palm. It's more Eastern/energetic. Experiment/test it. Don't take anyone's word for it folks. Best of health!!!:)
    Other helpful info:
    1. Quit nicotine (vasoconstrictor) is a must!
    2. Run (overall better circulation)
    3. Fast (frees up energy)
    4. Cayenne eye wash (Dr. Christopher helped heal many eyes issues, even cataracts by this method)
    5. Sunbathe (at least your face/eyes)
    6. Eat more Omega 3's (wild salmon)
    7. Use GLA supplement (black currant seed oil) if you have dry eyes. Helps produce moisture/lubrication.

Most Bates Method teachers on and off RUclips that I have found suggest the Bates Method eye exercises (solarization, palming, swinging, etc.) along with other practices like yogic eye movement, taking breaks, getting outside, and focusing on distant objects. So the habits that you are teaching are great (like the one's you shared in your 5 habits/tips for better eyesight) but a lot of your videos seem to say "even though bates was on to something, his practices dont work anymore" when there are a ton of people who testify that it works. Because this is a relatively long term pursuit, using bates' exercises as well as implementing the habits you suggest probably yield the highest succcess rate, even though it may take more commitment.

Dr. Bates was a genius. Everything currently taught about improving natural eyesight was discovered by Dr. Bates and many of the "new" teachers just re-package what he taught. Active focus was taught by Bates but he used different terminology. There are several ways to relax the eyes, palming being one of them. The trick is finding which ones work best for you. Thankfully there are wonderful Bates teachers online who can help people improve their vision fairly quickly.

Hi Jake, this is a very interesting video on a side of palming that I wasn't aware of. I used to wear glasses from age 12 to 42, getting stronger ones every couple of years, and I was able to heal my eyes naturally and achieve 20/20. While I have tried nearly 80 different exercises from 14 books, I can tell you that ones that gave me the largest amount of lasting improvement were the exercises done with closed eyes. One of them was palming. Of course, as my vision was approaching 20/20, I also added some exercises that include looking into the distance, and counting objects in the distance, like branches, and eventually leaves. It's interesting that there are so many different exercises, and not all of them work equally well for every individual. Also, I think it's very important who is your teacher, as the "fine print" you would learn from her/him is probably more important than just the basic description of the exercise. Thank you very much for trying to help the world see better !!!

But also, I work more than 8 hours a day in front of a screen, so I wear yellow glasses (for blue light, without any diopter), too. Then, I decided to try the Bates method. I stopped wearing any glasses. I have been doing palming, watching the sun, focusing on distances, and looking from the most left to the most right and from the top to the bottom for 10 days, and I feel my eyes slightly better. But without wearing the yellow glasses during screen time, I feel my eyes are exhausted at the end of the day. Is it normal? Should I wear them in front of the screen?

I read some Bates book over 20 years ago and liked some of the ideas. Palming for an hour once a day didn't do anything for me though. But I talked about the ideas in the book to a friend who at that time didn't need glasses. He was an avid gamer though (not a bookworm like me) and he eventually did need glasses. He then used the ideas I talked about to him to improve his vision and had it verified by an optometrist. It seems Bates's ideas work better if you catch it early. I was jealous. I'm hoping reduced lenses and active focus will help me reduce my dependency on glasses too. I've got a lot longer way to go though.

@@RahulSah-f8eHi, good to ask. Actually, I got out of my -2.25 glasses, starting out with them being too weak. So, I think I started between -2.75 and -2.5. I switched to -1.5, but those are still a little weak after a year. I am back to doing palming also, because without it, I plateaued for months. I don't think that the advice in the video is wrong. I suspect its different for different situations. Or, not everyone can do palming correctly, where the eye muscles really let go.
Anyway, I will go on and on with the exercises, but its probably not practical for normal people, who won't and can't hours and hours into this each week for years.

Bates said to read small print which is similar to practicing long distance focusing. Also Bates Shifting which is similar to long distance looking but using movement to bring relaxation into the eyes. Either way - it´s ALL based of Bates - I DON´T WANT LASERS, GLASES OR MODERN DOCTORS . PETER GRUNWALD HAS SOME NICE IDEAS TOO, which came from F.M Alexander.

Small print as substitute doesn't work in practice. Reality is, there is no substitute for distance vision, to fix distance vision. (source: 20 years & tens of thousands of participants of EM)

@RaylaHarris789 Hi Rayla. If you live in the US or Canada, I suggest attending a 3-day vision retreat in San Francisco. It's organized by SFSH - School for Self-Healing, and it's a few times per year. A lot of vision exercises and games will be done outside on the beach. Enjoy and best of luck to you, on your vision improvement journey!

Need some help. Here’s my eye results:
    OD: -2.5, Cylinder: -1.25
    OS: -2, Cylinder: -1.75
Should I reduce my prescription to this and for a single distance for computer use?
    OD: -2.25, Cylinder: -1.00
    OS: -1.75, Cylinder: -1.5
What should I do with my prescription glasses? I am only using them to focus long distances like in the classroom. Should I sit just far enough to see the board? My prescription might be over. I never asked my prescription.

I have been interested in these subjects like forever. I believe it’s the teacher more than the method. I didn’t think Bates method really worked until an instructor incorporated it with many other ideas w) Bates as the core. So in short, I have the gist of Steiner method & it doesn’t work for me. A teacher who central theme is Bates has a much broader approach which makes more sense & really works. So putting down palming to go out & read street signs is asinine . To play w eye glass prescriptions doesn’t work for me.

This video concentrates on ciliary muscle showing than mr. Steiner did not understand or is misrepresenting the Bates method. Dr.Bates clearly explains that ciliary muscle is not responsible for eye focus but all the other muscles around the eyes. It is not a "hunch". He presents in his book the experimental observations that allows him to make this statement. Br. Bates also states in his book that closeup work and fine prints reading (which you could compare to working on a phone or computer) would be excellent practice of the vision if good visual habits are present. He can back his claims from thousands of patients and work in public schools. Not a hunch. I think you should remove Bates Method from your title.

I think he might predict six years, but it might vary a lot depending on ciliary spasm, your genes, your lifestyle, etc. The first diopter may be easier. For eyeball reshaping, he claims 0.75 diopters per year to be typical. The last diopter may be difficult/slow with this method. This info is just my memory from stuff he said in related videos, I'm relatively new to this channel myself and cannot confirm his claims, though they seem plausible.

Honestly I am just happy I recovered most of my eyesight using Bates method, this method is free and everyone can learn it from the internet, endmyopia.org is trying to sell something, Bates wasn't, so you guys had to come with something different from the Bates method :-) anyway, I have been consistent in practising palming and shifting for now 2 years and this has paid and is still paying, I have recently started using plus lenses as well for my near work and the first days I got improvement as well, so the road to 20/20 will take probably 1 more year for me and in total 3 years but oh boy it is so rewarding to see with my own eyes and that keeps my motivation, it is very slow. To answer your question, there hasn't be any official study but a small collection of direct and indirect evidence, check here : www.iblindness.org/evidence/

It makes me very sad & disappointed to see negative videos about the Bates Method. I've been able to reduce my prescription by 1.5 diopters in less than 4 months using Bates methods. Palming is very much a part of my daily practice. In order to improve, you have to learn to relax your eyes, period. It's really not rocket science which makes it especially sad to see anyone claim to be an "expert" about something so basic. If EndMyopia is so fabulous, then why vilify other methods? As with many things in life, there's usually more than one way to skin a cat. As Dr. Bates said, people hold tension in different ways & therefore need different ways to relieve the tension. Different is not necessarily wrong.

is better to do active focus with or without glasses
i have 5.00 left and 4.50 left, but my vision is still blurry (a bit) with my precription glasses, but it takes like 30 cm plus to get " blurry " with 12 font text.
i do active focus usually without my glasses because its easier to hold the book like 15 to 20 cm from my face rather than 35 or something.but is it better or the same as having normalized glasses that have lower prescriptions?
and if i want to do close up work perhaps like making a document,or school work,or playing my phone in general.is it better to do it without using my glasses and see it from 1 to 2 cm blur horizon all the time?

    • @neildoerdan2298
      @neildoerdan2298 7 лет назад +2

If the glasses are creating blur then you can do it with them. Should really be for distance only and you should avoid using glasses for close up work and/or get a lower prescription which work at lower distance but will create blue if you move back a few cm's.

    • @vincentaon
      @vincentaon 7 лет назад

      in theory,it should work,right?

    • @neildoerdan2298
      @neildoerdan2298 7 лет назад +2

At 5 and 4.5 you will find it hard to not use something for close up work, unless you can hold it at 15-20 cm all the time?
That is why for close up work differentiated glasses are suggested. Go to optician, ask for prescription for close up work.
If you can get away with not using your glasses then that's the way to go and try to practise the active focus by taking text to edge of blur and trying to focus it to cleaner image.
Avoid too much close up work (take breaks) so that your ciliary muscle doesn't go into spasm, otherwise your eye can not focus properly once this occurs and until you relax the muscle then close up work may only make the myopia worse.

    • @vincentaon
      @vincentaon 7 лет назад

Neil Doerdan for the few days that i tried,it seems to not be giving me as much problem as i thought it would, its just a matter of getting used to it,holding the 15 to 20 cm distance.

I liked your video and I realized my left eye's vision was fixed somehow. Then I subscribed and my right eye's vision got fixed. Suddenly my myopia go gone just by sitting in front of the computer and my mom says not to sit on a computer for too long :P
BTW I do eye shifting exercise..its like looking at my thumb for 5 seconds and then looking at the tip of a pole that is kinda far away for 5 seconds. Will that help? and how much time will it take?

Jake I have a question do you think that those things that you put on your eyes to sleep would help in any way? Because I used them last night they were a lil tight and when I woke up today I noticed that I could see a lot better but it didn’t last all day

This one win definitely trigger the Bates people. I predict this video will get alot of dislikes as Bates people can be quite cult like. Hopefully some will take to the more rational scientific approach

+Exotic Games True. I should just leave it alone but then ... people search Bates keywords. Gotta give them options.

I was looking at options to solve eye sight issues and Bates is the main one that came up. Nothing on myopia came up on first few months of searches. But like many going glasses free at -5 is not an option. I'm glad I kept digging and came across Jake's suggestion which I have now adopted and have been trialling for a few weeks. Lets hope I get the same success as others have.

Haha. I am a Bates person. I agree with everything Jake says except for his judgement about Bates not being relevant today. Bates discovered the way eyesight works. He described it in terms of memory and imagination, which is exactly the same thing that Jake calls 'active seeing'. Everybody thinks they have a unique angle and wants to make money out of it - but that doesn't mean that others are wrong.
