I was done with college...and broke. I bought an 89' F-150 for $500 sight unseen, that had the I6. On cracking tires and a rapidly deteriorating clutch master cylinder, that truck got me from Anchorage, AK to San Francisco, CA, in the dead of winter, without a single issue. Then I drove it 10 more years. Never a single issue with the engine, and it had at least 300K. Should have never sold her.
Sometime in the future, the last EV in existence will be hauled to the scrap yard behind a Ford truck powered by a 4.9 I6 with 400,000 miles on the clock
it's funny that the video says at the end "we don't want an electric 4-door mom mobile, we want this" because that's exactly why I'm watching this video, I want my next vehicle to be an old ford pickup with a straight six.
I recently bought a 92 f150 custom with the 300. I love it more and more every day. Plus all you new car drivers tend to have issues you'll never hear about on an older vehicle. Its wonderful
I have the same truck. 3.55 rear end. Seems like every other week I discover something that makes me love my truck more. Bought in November 2023 for $3k with 166k original miles and the best purchase in forever. ❤
We still use the ford inline 6 in our tractors in American Airlines. Lately having hard time finding multiple blocks so we are starting to install Kubota engines in.
as an Australian I have 3x6 cylinder Ford engines in the 66 Falcon coupe I have a 200 cubic inch made in Australia just rebuilt I put everything back on it by my self and it started the first time from a static tune-up I could not believe it ,I believe I'm a good boilermaker I'm a s*** mechanic but it started?Fme , sue has a Ford Territory with a 6 cylinder x German gearbox fantastic. I have an old 05 we call them a ute ,burra engine 1 ton there is a variable camshaft in these things they need to be screaming for the oil pressure to engage it, man you get wheel spin at 80k per hour its done 265000 km 16500mi Ford and General Motors make the best cars in Australia they have ever made and then went home???
My truck's from 1977 and has a 302, but now i feel bad because it had this thing originally and people make it seem really good! Nothing bad happened with the 302 yet though.
I have an 81 f150 with 93 4.9l. Pulled all the fuel inj. off and put a 1bbl carb on it. Had to run electric fuel pump because no hole for mechanical but works like a clock
I put a mechanical pump on my 88 300 six. The spot where the pump mounts is easily removed. Thin casing over the hole. Bolt holes was there. Cam has the lobe. I don’t think the head on the 300 efi works the same for the carburetor set up. I get bad fuel mileage compared to other 300 with the carburetor head. And it idles a little rough. But runs and drives okay.
Had a uncle who had a bricknose f150 with a 4.9 with a dump bed conversion when he finally sold it it had 2.9 million miles but the engine still ran smooth and the trans was only rebuilt once he used it to take his trash to the dump parts runs for his tractors went to church with it and went to dennys after that was its life he had it since new he sold it to his neighbor and bought a 2014 5.0 f150 in 2017 he now has it to 300k miles with minimal issues a video on the coyote would be cool
I would love to have a Ford truck with a 300 I6. thank you for featuring this engine. Do you think that given the sludge, the pick up screen being plugged with sludge and the mystery plastic piece that this engine died from lack of oil flow?
that'll last just long enough to reach the end of the warranty period and break, most likely the transmission, costing you 10s of 1000s of dollars. There, I completed your sentence 😂😊❤
I got a 96 f150 i6 4x4 automatic long bed. Has some vacuum leak and cylinder 5 has low compression. Me not being a repair kinda guy really sucks cause I love that truck and really wanna get it going. Needa stop being lazy and just start working on it. Knowing my dumbass I might just make it worse off instead of actually repairing it
HEY ARON, im thinking of buyin an old 66 mercury truck with Ford Inline 240 6 clyinder., the owner wants alot of money in my opinon considering she also says the engine is kinda tired. SOOOO, can i bolt up any newer than 1966 ford inline 6 engine to this 66 tranny? i just dont wanna drive 6 hrs there 6 hrs back with a $5000 truck and have that engine fail and not know what my options are ahead of time. i would kinda like a auto tranny but sticking as close to original is also a big plus
But the GOVT says we gotta put auto denying electronics on your engine so we can*protect women &children during high speed chases.... Basic engine, no electronics, NO govt Interruption..
Back when ford actually built a good engine and cared about there customers. Now there loyalty is built around junk cars, recalls, non existent QC and especially the stock market.
I have a 300 Cubic Inch six in my '65 F100. The motor was not foreign built...It is NOT a 4 point anything ! Why spoill an otherwise well put together vid with the Foreign Jibberish ???
4th best motor in the world. Runs like stupid good and torque just like a desile and sounds just like a diesel with the headers of. This motor is crazy torque. It’s just like a 5.9 desil but it 4.9 gaser I have 1993 obs= older body style. Works good very good. Not greatest on gas tho. But I can’t stand listening to that power steering. U can hear a ford coming just from power steering.
YES FORD! WE WANT THIS! Simple, solid, affordable and reliable!
Why would they ever do that, that just gets rid of future customers? *makes plastic oil pan*

mine is a 88' and i am doing research, i am currently almost at 500,000 miles
FORD I want my straight 6 back.
They were allegedly working on I6 Ecoboost and it was just recently cancelled...
Bastards...
Just imagine a 2025 Ford Bronco with an I6.
Sometime in the future, the last EV in existence will be hauled to the scrap yard behind a Ford truck powered by a 4.9 I6 with 400,000 miles on the clock
I'm looking at the truck that'll do that. She's in my driveway 💕💞
A million
Just hit 290,000 on mine running strong
it's funny that the video says at the end "we don't want an electric 4-door mom mobile, we want this" because that's exactly why I'm watching this video, I want my next vehicle to be an old ford pickup with a straight six.
Same here. All men need an apocalypse truck and they need it now.
I hope you get one. Just collected mine 2 weeks ago, freakin love it. 1987 f250 4x4 standard cab 4 speed 300inline
this deserves more views
Bought my first new vehicle in1990,…f-150, i-6, 5 speed manual. Great truck, never failed me till the trans broke at 260k
Thank you for one of the most honest videos on RUclips!
Still own and drive three old fords with 300 six.
I recently bought a 92 f150 custom with the 300. I love it more and more every day. Plus all you new car drivers tend to have issues you'll never hear about on an older vehicle. Its wonderful

Just bought another project truck. 1983 Ford f150 with the 300 in line 6 super excited to drive the truck.
Best engine ford ever built. They are extremely reliable and hard to kill
I got a 92 f150, i was thinking about a 302 swap, not anymore!
I have a 93 econoline 302. Just hit 55,000 miles and fairly pleased, but I’d definitely consider swapping to a 4.9 if something ever goes wrong.
Don't do it straight sixes are the best truck engines ever
302 is a great option if you need a quick swap, but I'd find another 300 to put in it asap 😂
We still use the ford inline 6 in our tractors in American Airlines. Lately having hard time finding multiple blocks so we are starting to install Kubota engines in.
my pops got me a 94 for college in 2022, almost 3 years with her over 300k miles still at it and i use her everyday
Just got a 95 van with a 4.9l only 150k miles, she's been sitting for a few years but I'm excited. Project car van as my first lmfao
One of the best engines ever

We could have this if people would stop lying about the weather.
My truck's from 1977 and has a 302, but now i feel bad because it had this thing originally and people make it seem really good! Nothing bad happened with the 302 yet though.
I have a original 1965 Ford 300 industrial 6 cylinder engine…
WTF did Ford stop making the 4.9 300?!?!?! No electric engine will ever replace the 300!
2 theories:
Too reliable for Ford to profit, so they did away with it.
Emissions standards

My old girl can sit for infinity, change fluids tickle the battery and she goes Grrrrrr not even close to kidding
I have a ‘90 F150 inline 300…
AND a ‘65 Mustang with an inline 200
Bro...
The dad sounds exactly like Lewis Spears 😭😭😭
Imagine if you could still buy an OBS F150 with the 300 in. It. A cheap effective reliable vehicle for some of us that can’t afford $70,000 mommy F150
that'll last just long enough to reach the end of the warranty period and break, most likely the transmission, costing you 10s of 1000s of dollars.
There, I completed your sentence 😂😊❤
Gonna go buy myself a 250 with the inline only 84k on the body and the beauty of a motor has been redone

I am propably late but the 240 and 300 are the same block. A 300 is a stroked 240. Even the same head. So a 300 should bolt right in!
But the 66 240's got IIRC a head that gives a 11:1 compression ration, the highest of any year 240 or 300.
But the GOVT says we gotta put auto denying electronics on your engine so we can*protect women &children during high speed chases....
Basic engine, no electronics, NO govt Interruption..
They weren’t engineered for HP rather low end torque.
Bring back4.6
4.9
Not sure what is explained but👍
Ford if your listening
Sadly they’re not.
You’ll get your 4 door electric mom mobile and be happy.
did you hear this engine running!, that was engineering nowadays, not the crap what engineers from ford today design.
1996 F150 with the 4.9. 200k no leaks, uses no oil, purrs...
I GOTZ ME A 1990 F-150 ENLINE ENGINE WITH 168 THOUSAND MILES ON IT ! AND SHE'S A BEAUT ! YIPPEE KI-YAY !
Amen brother! Count me in!😎❤️🇺🇸🛻👍
wish i had one, tired of my 4 cylinder toyota vibrating like mad
Back when ford actually built a good engine and cared about there customers. Now there loyalty is built around junk cars, recalls, non existent QC and especially the stock market.
I wouldn't be so quick to blame Ford for moving away from this. Hint hint...the government
I have a 300 Cubic Inch six in my '65 F100. The motor was not foreign built...It is NOT a 4 point anything ! Why spoill an otherwise well put together vid with the Foreign Jibberish ???
All this rage because he said the words 4.9 litre, wow you're cooked.
