what movie director would you like to see take on a video game? that was a good fun question in this video and I think we should talk about it more in a full video
James cameron a terminator game
None
Hollywood is trash.
I'd love to see Jordan Peele have a hand in a horror game.
Christopher Nolan could definitely make some story games. Imagine a full Alan Wake style game with the mind-fuckery of Nolan directing.
I’m not super into movies so I’m just gonna name some of my favorites/obvious choices. I have no idea if these ppl would actually do a good job on a video game. Anyways; Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, Jordan Peele
Petition to get a q and a every 2 weeks
it's a good way to cram in talking about a lot more....
maybe.
Agree
I can definitely get behind this one.
As long as you have the time. Your positive thoughts are a breath of fresh air in this environment.
Legoooo
A Bioshock would hit different right now! I’d love it!
Immediately off the title, yes I need a new bioshock.. and infamous.. and twisted metal
Infamous please!
Justice for Infamous. Second Son lives rent-free in my brain, 100%'d it 3 or 4 times.
(This is kinda weird but my brain even links a specific type of hand soap smell to playing that game lol)
Ooooh sorry, no can do on the new Twisted Metal game. Will you settle for a Twisted Metal TV show... on Peacock?
Definitely twisted metal imo the series was never as good as the second installment would like to see the IP restored to glory and the car combat formula brought to this generation
@@bigaj6901what soap?
What if the next bioshock is somewhere really remote like the sun. Could be themed around nuclear fusion and harnessing its power
How about having the city inside a digital simulation? That could give them a lot of opportunities to do weird and creepy shit with it.
@@basvangeest5485ohhh i love this idea. Black mirror comes to mind… San Junipero, Playtest, oh and also SOMA would be great inspiration
@@basvangeest5485See i want this but with a twist. Game is set in Victorian London and yet the player slowly starts noticing glitches with the world, like a modern weapon or sci- fi piece of tech, small items that are out of place. Jack the Ripper could be in it as a side antagonist where each kill he makes is an AI representative of a core program. The twist is Jack is your relative trying to save you from the matrix/program…
Judas is basically doing that already. A Bioshock game that takes place in space on a slowly disintegrating starship. It's not actually Bioshock but it's clearly heavily inspired and still led by Ken Levine the OG Bioshock director.
@@afd19850 this whole concept is rad as hell but that Jack the Ripper idea is genuinely so awesome and creative. Double points for the (possibly unintentional) callback to BioShock 1's protagonist!
I have been waiting patiently for years. Bioshock has been in my top 3 of all time since it’s release.
The topic of "controlling the room" as being the real pull of a stealth game hits so hard. It's the kind of thing I've never been able to describe so succinctly that so many games I love have in common. Like in Dishonored, I love no-kill runs because to stab an enemy is easy but to control the space in such a way that you can ghost through and leave without a trace is a higher feeling of power.
I want them to make prototype 3 and also a remake splatterhouse and batman origins one of the best batman games
Has there ever been a game you feel you missed out on? Like an online game that you didn’t get a chance to try until after it was dead.
Recently went back to play Bioshock 1. It was so ahead of it’s time. If anything, I want a Bioshock reimagined or a new take on the series. They need to go back to pure fear driven gameplay with HD big daddies 🎉
OMG I got the original duology on ps3.. Then I got the 3rd ps4 ps plus.. And I barely touch them lol
That’s the way I’d do it grab a whole bunch of flash sale games years ago then forget i own them hahaha
6:29 I get it. This is how I feel about Mass Effect and Final Fantasy 16. "Ugh... more enemies... maybe I'll get more story after this fight."
I LOVE the way the universe of Bioshock works!
It's been 10 years since our last Bioshock. I will not be satisfied until the next one is out.
I salute all the gamers we lost before the new game.
Thoughts on the RDR1 and GTA 4 remake rumours?
More Q&A pleaseeeee, these are my favorite video from you Jake :)
I’ve always thought that Cristopher Nolan could come up with a CRAZY video game concept that could blow everyone’s mind! But specifically I would love to see a collab with Remedy, they are practically meant for each other; I can’t be the only one that was reminded of movies like Tenet and inception while playing through Quantum break and Control!
Jake Baldino, Always a pleasure to have our board of video game news to pay us a little visit with a Q&A video
Hey Jake! What’re your thoughts about playing games on easy? Do you think it makes a person less of a gamer or is it more about how they choose to enjoy it?
Anybody who cares how someone else plays a single player game, unless it's illegal, is just wasting their air. Whats the point? I tend to play middle difficulty because I want a challenge but I play so many that learning it hardcore will take too long. But if someone wants to hardcore everything they should do that because it's their time and enjoyment. Same if someone wants to walk through. It has literally no bearing on my life and changed nothing about my ( or anybody else's) day. It's such an odd thing for people to get hung up on.
Earning your kills from hiding in plain sight is so satisfying cavi and nook from siege made me want a game that could capture that style of snek vs snek
Everyone deserves a Jake in their friendslist.
Love your content.
Hey Jake! Question for next time, what game genre (no need to get too granular) do you feel like needs the most innovation? The genre as a whole doesn't even need to be considered "stale" at all, just more curious what kind of games you'd like seeing branch out and take more risks in gameplay, art style, or even writing?
Bioshock in space seems like a pretty logical location for the next "utopia". Prohibition Mars could be like Last Man Standing, the Bruce Willis movie. With Bioshock powers and atmosphere
Ayyy one of my all time favorite series. Growing up my big two were Halo and Bioshock. Also what you said about a stealth game where you control the room really spoke to me. It's such a forgotten genre. Even the rare chance a good stealth game comes out now a days that room control is exactly what is missing. I would cut off my pinky for a new Splinter Cell.
What games have you discovered and loved purely by chance? I never would have gotten into many of my favorite indies without stumbling upon them by accident.
Are the ones that he likes the ones that get answered next time?
Starwars episode III and Batman Begins. Also Lego Starwars after I got over my ego.
Most indies I learned weren't that bad when I tried them.
Jake hearing about your love of ketchup was so great honestly you should add a question about a random aspect of your life in these videos more often
Bioshock 4 should take place in an underground city sort of like what we see in Fritz Lang's "METROPOLIS" where the poor live underground and the rich above ground. It's super claustrophobic in the film and I think that environment would work great for a new BioShock: seedy underground gangs, Neon lights, pollution due to being underground and just general havok. Also the civilians of the underground are pasty, almost like a piece of paper due to the lack of sunlight
How about a bioshock on the Moon? Could have some great gravity mechanics and would allow for another unique landscape and aesthetics.
I always wanted a 60s space race Bioshock on the moon
I can agree with the metal gear answer, except for MGS 4. I feel like Kojima innovated the game so much with the gun customization and the crazy battlefield moments that it would feel awesome everytime I boot it up
Whenever I hear that classic wolf howl all I can think of is fighting sniper wolf on MGS. Hiding behind the trees in the snow.
Thanks for the additional videos Jake! I know the main channel takes a lot of work.
I’m in the same boat! Where is the next Bioshock game?
school starts tomorrow. it's always nice when a q&a drops.
If Rockstar were given the opportunity to reboot or make a sequel to a popular I.P, what game would it be?
Bully has so much potential and the way it already played was so great especially compared to modern open world filler games. It actually felt fun to discover new activities and side content. The simulation elements and interacting with NPCs were great too.
Red Dead 2s amazing conversation reactions are actually part of unused Bully 2 concepts and that's how far it would've gone years ago if the greed didn't take over.
Also jake (haven't watch the vid yet) have you watched the twisted metal show? How are you liking it? It's surprisingly good the trailers didn't do it justice at all
My Bioshock locale pitch: a place that looks completely normal and assuming, like a small town. It all looks mundane on the surface, but each building has a pocket dimension interior. The citizens chose their own "worlds" so there is a ton of variety but still a lot of potential for social commentary. Possibly call the town Purgatory or something similar....on second thought, forget the devs, I'm going to use that concept for my next short story. Lol
Love your vids, Jake. Hope the stress stays relatively low so you can continue to love what you do (live that dream, brother). Hope the BS comments roll off your back and know that the VAST majority of us are here because we appreciate your approach, your thoughts, and just you for who you are. Keep up the good work.
Jake i would love a video of all youre videogame stuff.
Also who would you most like to see assemble a team and helm a new gaming studio? What kinds of games would you like them to make and maybe who are the artists or technicians that you'd think would be able to bring it into fruition?
I'm here baby!!!
My question for next time is does Jake ever get the comparison to coffee RUclipsr Morgan Eckroth? I clicked one of her vids because I legit thought it was Jake making a video about coffee 😂
Love you Jake❤️ You don’t realize how important YOU and the rest of Gameranx are to the gaming community. Y’all aren’t just another cog in the machine, because you guys are the only channel I can stomach watching on here lately. Pure and genuine content that doesn’t question the viewers intelligence🙏🏻
Thaaaank you for bringing up Croc, I couldn't tell if my memory was working or not. I played it rather young and remember being creeped out/dreaded going back to some parts. Can't even remember most of the game at this point, but I still remember some of the feelings it gave me. Played the shit out of it on ps1.
Could you make a game room tour or a tour of the office sometime soon? I'd like to see your favorite things and how you organize.
I appreciate your content. Thank you
Q: have you ever cosplayed as Solid Snake or any other Metal Gear character? Would you do it for your channel for a video this Halloween?
3:53 A city within close vicinity to the Earths core, would make for some great visuals. Utilising natural gasses, plasma and magma as some of the powers and maybe ‘Steam noir’ as the aesthetic / period choice.
These are always enjoyable to listen to. I've always wondered how did gameranx get started? Were you and Falcon friends before creating this channel, how did you two meet? Best gaming channel, period 👌
When Rockstar North was known as DMA Design they made one of the most popular games of the 90s, Lemmings. They should have another crack at Lemmings.
How excited are you for starfield? And what are your expectations?
Thanks for the answer, Jake! Great insights and take on things as always. Didn't mean to put you in the spot 🤣
Hey Jake,
These QandA always seem like you are reading the questions for the first time as you are answering them, do you not read them and think about them before hand? if not huge props as your answers are always eloquent/thoughtful and detailed. Kind regards, you're a good egg
I absolutley loved Boom Blox as a kid and never knew Spielberg had a part in it. The more you know, thanks!
Love your stuff Jake. Quick question, will you ever be able to remember the email for user questions on FPS?
He got it right on the most recent episode ! 👏🏼
I think a good new idea for bioshock should be an alternative universe. They've always had cities where cities can't exist. So imagine being in a modern city. But if you walk backwards through a door the world changes into the bioshock style world ( think how ratchet and clank uses the cracks in the universe making use of ssd)
That could work. And you'd also have two worlds to work in
Bioshock 4: set in the 1970's, city on the moon. So many easy alien easter eggs/ enemy types. Maybe say they found downed craft with the OG moon landing and modified that tech but it messed with the minds of people who use it and that would give you your new abilities. Also, having to contend with using it too much and becoming corrupted like the city was.
The simple mention of boom blocks just unlocked an entire fragment of my childhood memories
Hey Jake! With the recent popularity of the Castlevania anime, and rumors about another installment in the game franchise, what would you like to see in another Castlevania game?
I want it to be like Skyrim, personally.
Jake would you ever want a return to the sly cooper series? Those games have a special place in my heart and really cool sandboxes id love to see a return to
Loved Table Tennis. Also, I think I get what that one person was asking, about game releases getting farther and farther apart. I grew up gaming in the 90s and early 2000s, the age when games weren't as big and sequels were yearly to bi-yearly. While I do agree with the attitude of taking time to make it great and anti-crunch culture and such, I also sometimes miss getting like a new Mortal Kombat every year, or a new Rare game like every two years. Call of Duty and Final Fantasy fans still eat well in that regard.
Also, possible question for the next Q&A, what is a dead or obscure series you'd love to see make a return, even if it's just a collection or port of older titles?
Awesome work as always Jake.
Bioshock 4 should take place in an underground volcano in Antarctica. Snow, lava, cave settings would totally do it for me!
I’m excited to see Bioshock 4 considering Shawn Elliot from CGW/GFW mag/radio has an important role in its development. It’s my favorite podcast of all time and I like the way he thinks about games
Interesting to see you talk about written articles centered on games, you always link stuff in the Friday show. How do you go about finding those articles/what sites do you frequent for them? One of the most interesting ones I remember you linking was about Miyazaki talking about Dark Souls
Jake I completely understand what you said about Metal Gear
What are your thoughts on having a lord of the rings game where you play as Aragorn going on a narrative adventure during his time as a ranger…? Shadow of Mordor but slightly slower paced combat and more focus on story than just the nemesis system. Being a ranger. Tracking people or items. Dialogue.
Thanks for using my question
I would love if Arkane got the ability to handle a bio shock project
Hey man where do you think the Zelda franchise is going next and where would you like it to go??? Also love the content hope your having a good week!
Recently finished Prey 2017 for the first time, so I'm satisfied on that front
i never refrigerate ketchup.. i like the way it tastes at restaurants where they leave it out on the table, found out you can do it at home if you just leave it out.
I think a new Bioshock would be served well underground, like near the earth's core, with caves and lava and thermoengineering and things of that nature.
QA: Old school gamer here. There were so many great, creative, even artistic 90s games, point and click, puzzle, etc. Why aren’t these gems up for remasters? Instead we get remakes of games that came out 5 years ago.
Bioshock 4 inside a dormant volcano, but all of a sudden begins to show signs of eruption, you have to escape the city and save your loved ones before you all burn in lava.
creative! but where's the political philosophical angle? maybe some people don't believe in the volcano, or there's a volcano cult or something
@@JakeBaldino the mayor and all the people in power try to escape before it all goes to shit while reassuring the city people there is no danger, city folks they find out the volcano is about to erupt soon and theres not much space in the planes for everyone to escape, a civil war ensues? Idk just spit balling lol but I do think a volcano would be cool.
@@JakeBaldino the government is going full Scanner Darkly on any dissidents that say the possibility of an eruption is real. Your character either gets disappeared to some concentration camp or your a new employee tasked to disappear someone yet you go against orders. That’s how I’d add the political intrigue.
Philosophical angle over free will and most people don’t know they live in a volcano? Cult makes people think they have free will but they don’t and no one realizes anything is wrong until the volcano starts acting up.
What's a new and creative super power you would like to see explored in a new Infamous game? For me, I would love to see something centered around sand since you could utilize it well for offense, defence and traversal, especially if the setting takes place on an island or desert.
How's your kitchen coming along with the move? Get to decorate any other part of your place, aside from what you've shown? Have your first big gaming session in your new home yet?
Who is your dream Mortal Kombat dlc fighter?
gooood question
Question: What do you want to see from Resident Evil 9, story-wise? Do you think the Winters family might return? Is there maybe another branch of the mold like the one from 7 or did it all die with the heart since it's a hive mind? What about Chris vs the BSAA? Will we see a new character or will it return to one of the classics?
Whatever they do I want it to go back to being as scary at 7. I feel like it played with a good mix of different fears and I was let down by 8 cause it felt more like it was a dark theme then it was actually scary.
You sound great jake. Mind sharing your mic and audio interface ? Thanks brother. Much love from Spain 🇪🇸
@13:41 bro I hear ya on the ketchup topic. Ketchup in Germany, France, and Italy is next level 😂😤
I'd like to see Bioshock set in an orbital space station in an alternative 70s setting. The plot would revolve around you trying to prevent a crazed cult from trying to crash it into Earth. The twist would be that it lands in the ocean and sinks to the bottom becoming a second Rapture.
I liked how you talked about liking to experience a game's story more than playing it. I have some friends that say they prefer to watch people play games than to actually play them for the same reason. Curious to know what other games fall in that category for you besides metal gear
@JakeBaldino What are your best tips and advice for someone who wants to visit New York for the first time? Where in New York would you say has the best, simple pepperoni pizza available?
To the bioshock developers “Would you kindly announce the next bioshock game”
Bioshock 4: A domed city deep in the Himalayas could be cool. Instad of having missions in the ocean, you would have to venture into the dark and cold mountains where Abominable snowmen live...☺
Me and a friend started playing Warriors a few years ago because he loved it as a kid and oh man that game is ENDLESS fun!! The PS4 version doesn’t work well on my PS5 tho rip:(
It’s so sad to hear about the negative comments directed towards Jake’s character because how can you literally dislike this guy? Like this guy is just such a cool chill dude. By far the RUclipsr I’d most like to have a beer with and just shoot the shit about games and other stuff.
what's your take on the Asus ROG Ally and all the hardware issues that came up since launch (especially the micro SD card reader killing cards or just stopping to work) ? And how do you feel about those PC gaming handhelds in general ? (like Ally, Steam Deck, etc)
omg croc one of my favourite games growing up really hoping they do a remaster of it sometime
Chaos theory is one of the most fun I ever had out of 40 years of gaming.
What would you like to see in Final Fantasy 17? Should they go back to turn based or keep trying to perfect action combat? And what kind of themes or settings would you like to see?
Rockstar table tennis was incredible.. It was A physics tech demo for GTA 4
Hey Jake, always look forward to your content on here and Gameranx. But speaking of ketchup, any word on a Freedom Fighters remake?
The premise of the movie “Snowpiercer” could be a great Bioshock game
Jake Baldino out here asking the right questions.
Bioshock but it has a space elevator that goes to the earth's core
Hey Jake just wanted to post to say thanks for asking about the Xbox version of BG3 in the latest FPS Podcast!
Im gonna need an in-depth video on Jake’s hot takes with condiments.
1. Has a youtube video essay made you buy and pkay a game you was dismissive/unaware of? Pixel A Day made me buy and play Soma not because her video, but because she mentioned it was her next video and I wanted to watch it after playing the game and not too lo g after she uploaded. So, I purchased and finished in about 5 days. Loved it! And her video, of course.
2. Is it my impression, or are there many developers very mad a Larian Studios for what they are doing with Baldur's Gate 3? They say we should not expect the same level of quality/scope from other companies.
From a small company or team with limites budget, certainly I wouldn't, but from Microsoft/Obsidian? They have all the money in the world, they can certainly pay 400 people, or 4,000 people, to make a game with the same quality/scope, and even in less than 7 years.
It sounds to me, they are upset because they know they will never make games as good a BG3.
It's different but it reminds me how some AAA developers famoss for their half assed games were upset last year because Elden Ring was miles better than any of their games can ever be.
3. About reviews: it's weird what can sell you a game, or off. Earlier today Design Doc video about Boss Rush modes, made me decide to not buy Okami. I had it in my wishlist for a long time, no review I watched managed to explain (to me) what's so grear about the game, but Design Doc managed to mention the mandatory boss rush, explaining how it was implemented, and I knew I would jost be very bored and waiting for the game to end..
Hey Jake. Love your stuff. Was just wondering how being a reviewer has effected how you play games. Do you ever go back and get to take the time to enjoy a game after you've reviewed it? When you aren't reviewing a game do you enjoy playing it in your free time or do you just need a break from gaming when not on the job?
Table tennis was awesome!
I thought we had confirmation 4 is about a frozen location in the 60's with a mirror city. Theres a city on top of the earth, and one that is an exact mirror under the earth and there's a real conflict between the two cities.
I would love a SplinterCell with Hitman size levels. Multiple angles of attack. Recreate the Langley scene from MI:1.
