Basement workshop guy here. I have little space and since every square centimeter matters, I've gotten crafty. If you have forward facing space from your "tool board" try stacking tools sideways to board, not laying them flat on it. It will minimize the 2D footprint. I've got all my squares, calipers, compases and gauges (or had, before I got too many of them) on a single 12 inch holder which a simple board with slots cut into it. Saves wall space like crazy and the tools are easier to reach for that way.
I use a matco automotive roll cart that is always beside me. It has 2 drawers and a big open top. The stuff I use daily goes on top, other stuff in the drawers, power tools on bottom shelf, mostly. Great video!!
Shop furniture. There is 2 schools on that. 1. It should be a full-on advert for your skills. 2. Calibrated Eyeball is good enough. Thanks for posting. Take care & stay safe.
Growing up i would help my dad and uncle with remodeling, and they were always looking for pencil/drill/tape measure. It would take like 5 min of just looking, and it became a trigger of mine 😅 i vacuum and clean everything at the end of the day so when i start my project the next morning nothing is in my way and everything is in its place lol
Super,I did a similar one using the U tract to hold the various tools.My shed is covered with OSB.I used 8cms of 15mm pine wood to fix into two sides 90cms apart.Then using 90cms of the same pine I screwed the wood to the 8cms one.now you have a space between the OSB and pine stock.the space is enough to hold screw drivers ,clamps etc. With less effort you can have a great display of tools. I use VHB Tape for bonding magnets. Usually 467MP or 468MP. It bonds amazingly well to slick surfaces, something like 60lbs/sq inch. You can even get it in pre-cut circles specifically for magnets!
A couple of thoughts in R.E. Magnet mounting: Rather than using the epoxy as adhesive, between the board & magnet, put the magnet between the board & epoxy. The epoxy binds well to the wood, sealing the magnet into it's pocket. You can sprinkle sawdust over the epoxy before it cures. Stain it later if you wish. Alternately, drill the pits in the front of your board, then glue a thin sheet of melamine, plexiglass, wood paneling, etc. over the entire board sandwiching the magnets between.
When I bought my house 20 years ago I put up a peg board in my shop. I never really liked it. Late last year I finally decided to put up French cleats and it has been day and night. I put a lot of thought into it and from the start I wanted it to be more 3D. What I mean by that is stuff like hand saws and hammers are sticking out by the handle. That way they take up a lot less room and I just have to reach up and grab what I need. If I find tools are not in the correct spot for me then it's very easy to move stuff around. For magnets I've found the metal cups sold at Lee Valley that the magnets go into don't let them come out.
When it comes to gluing rare earth magnets talk to your table top war gaming community. They use rare earth magnets on an almost daily basis. I have have found that with rare earth magnets you want to rough then up a bit with fine sand paper or an emery board, and do not use accelerator. Let the glue cure naturally; it will cure much stronger.
Hi, you now get magnets with a counter sunk hole in it for easier attachment. Always better to hide the magnet by installing from the rear, but you might get a use case for the new style of magnet

Not EVERY Workbench should have it..Only those who have a huge workshop and have plenty of money..
