    Will always remember his comment when when asked if he had any advice to give the wonder kid, Steve Cauthen, when he arrived to ride in England for Barry Hills; "tell him to follow me" cheeky little devil. Thanks for the thrills Willie.

    One of the greatest jockey of the second half of the last century . He, Lester Piggott, Pat Eddery, Enrico Camici, Gianfranco Dettori (Frankie's dad) ... Lot of time I could enjoy their class in Milan or in Rome, or by television

    there is no greater legend than Willie Carson (except maybe Lester Piggott) Willie is one chilled out guy and Mike is a really great interviewer

    The absolutely brilliant photo at 23:17 is truly something very very special indeed, just to see 2 of the greatest Jockey's in our lifetime is wonderful sadly the ' Long Fellow ' has gone to weighing room in the clouds smoking the finest Cuban whilst 'nicking' the best handicapped runner in the Big Race! But William Hunter 'Willie' Carson is thankfully still with us.

      A naturel communicator. He could make everybody laugh. He could have been a comedian had he chosen to. He decided to be a jockey and did crack a few jokes here and there.

    I always felt Willie had a Lester Piggott shaped chip on his shoulder throughout his career but now the dust has settled and time has passed, he has come to terms with the fact he was up against a unique genius.

      Piggott really did not get on with effervescent people. So he would have been very awkward or worse with Willie. Hence Willie's dislike of Piggott. However Piggott also admired dedication enormously and for Willie to come from a totally non racing background to become a great jockey must have taken great dedication. So I suspect Piggott disliked Carson but admired him.

    I remember leading Willie up when I worked for trainer Denys Smith at Doncaster, he won on my horse Sunshine Lie, the first winner I led up

    I liked him at one time
    even was told to back him on a 8/1 shot at Royal Ascot 1981 by Sir Peter O Sullivan
    but to see him on video siding with Crook Graham bradley made me feel sick..

    Willie is so right about pivot and balance.As an apprentice it was drummed into us about bumping on the horses back,Iwatch the likes of Adam Kirby now and cringe.Maybe things are different now but 54 years ago it was not on.P.s/ I have no doubt about Kirby,s talent.

    To think that the Hern stable didn't have a winner from Nashwans Guineas until his Derby victory!! What a horse!!
    Quite honest guys for a racing channel to get 2 horses wrong OMG thats Sun Princess not Troy and that's certainly not Salsabil.

    It would've been nice when mentioning Troy winning the 1979 Derby had they put his picture up rather than a picture of Sun Princess..Poor from ATR!!

      Oh dear, just noticed another at 8:27 - they show a b&w photo of the 1980 Derby when talking about The Minstrel in 1977. They are showing it at the moment on Ch415 and none of these mistakes have been fixed. VERY POOR indeed - not as if we havent given them a heads up

    Great piece, I started betting in the early 90s but love watching all the historical races on RUclips, I remember watching Dayjur with my grandad, he backed it for the breeders Cup sprint losing to Safely Kept when he jumped the shadow, couldn't believe it....

    If you’re going to make a film for RUclips on Willie Carson and you’re going to put up a shot of one of his greatest horses, Troy, at least find a picture of Troy. Troy did not have a white blaze. Sloppy at best. Otherwise, good stuff for the racing bore community to which I so obviously belong...

      Pat was a much better Jockey, when he didn’t go bump bump. The more pronounced the bumps got, the less he won, through the 90‘s and in the 90‘s, Jockeys where already loosing the Art of Race Riding

    Great jockey .jockeys are like sheep now .under the trees at Goodwood will forever known as the Bahri route ..I still watch these great races everyday..the Queen should have had a lot more good horses winning classics if it wasn't for th£t buffoon lord carnarvon her Racing Manager
