- ‘Arthur Brown Story - Part 1 Interview by Iain McNay
Arthur has recorded many albums over a 50 year period and is best known for his No 1 Worldwide hit ‘Fire.’ He has been a major influence on many successful artists including Alice Cooper, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Gabriel, Iggy Pop and the New York Dolls.
From an early age he roamed the hills near where he lived singing, talking in rhyme and making up poetry. He signed for Track Records where he was co-produced by Kit Lambert and Pete Townsend. After ‘The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’ (which was generally regarded as the first ever concept album) he released three albums as ‘Kingdom Come’ before joining different spiritual communities. He went on to play The Priest in the film version of ‘Tommy;’ appeared on Alan Parson’s ‘Tales of Mystery Of Imagination’ and then did several albums with ex Tangerine Dream member Klaus Schulze.

This man CHOOSES every single word he speaks so carefully before opening his mouth, such a breath of fresh air! x
he is from the "Silent" generation. that is what we in the US call people born during WWII but not of a part of it.
@@Anonymous-km5pj How can you post that and and break a commandment at the same time rendering you hypocritical and disobedient. People who pass judgement are generally far worse when they develop their opinion knowing nothing of what they choose to judge. It brings about a dishonest environment and allows lies to continue to be born.
@@Anonymous-km5pj You fail to understand completely. Not a good look for Christ, BTW. Do better, thanks.
I love Arthur's creativity & his wild & free spirit. There's no one like him.
As a five year old in 1969 I was terrified by the spectacle of 'Fire' until one day during Top of the Pops my Dad walked into the room and burst out laughing with the immortal words 'look at that idiot with his hat on fire!'. After that, I was cured 🤣
What an articulate and considered person with spiritual depth - A real gem. I only just came across his version of Kites and it is brilliant.
God of hellfire had a strange effect on me as a child in 1969 . Still remember that tune 50 years later
I remember listening to the said song on the radio, also; I was nine years old in 1968, the year it came out.
"Be care full who you meet" Oh I'd love to hear the story behind that comment!
I discovered Fire at the age of eight in 93' and instantly fell in love as I was a huge fan of The Doors. Looking back I think discovering this song is what made me loathe heavy metal bands of the 2000's.
@@scottcollins5240 NU metal, metal core or both?
You had been enlightened!
Kingdom Come's 'Galactic Zoo Dossier' is criminally underrated, it is a masterpiece that should be much more well known than it is (as far as I know).
One of my all time favorite albums of the time. Internal messenger/sunrise, wow
Is this the same Arthur Brown who did I am the God of hellfire?
Yes
I'm trying to imagine Arthur on stage with Hendrix, Zappa and John Lee Hooker - and I think my brain is going to explode. Wow!
There is no one like you, Arthur. The disciplines that you have undertaken and just the sheer joy of your work, diverse as it has been!
Hello Arthur, I was listening to your Galactic Zoo album at the age of 15 and today at the age of 63 have just listened to Sunrise at full crank in the back garden WOW thank you for a great teenage of musical power. Love n all the best to you.
I first saw him on TV,back in `67-8 then saw him with Kingdom Come, then festivals Windsor free festival with Hawkwind, Last time 2000,and had a chat with him after the show,A star.
I remember the Kingdom Come gigs I went to at the Croydon Greyhound in the early seventies. They were amazing and it felt like we'd been taken on a journey. During one song Arthur left the stage and went up to someone near me and told them to scream into the microphone, which they did! I can't find any footage on YT showing some of the props they used, but I recall someone on stage inside a huge syringe and another of a brain that attacked him. Crazy indeed!
I was there too, great venue for all the fantastic bands you could imagine of that time and there was a Croydon clique who would always be at these great performances./ High times indeed
Ilove this guy. Surprised he never became A bigger star. This guy is heavy metal before heavy metal existed. Bruce dickinson of maiden loves him.
What an amazing legend.. What a amazing man
This has to be the most underrated rock musician ever
Immense thrill back in the 60s when I attended Arthur Brown performance 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I believe it was @ Grande Ballroom in Detroit Michigan USA
Where I saw many a concert.... i.e. The Who perform Tommy, etcetera ....
at 24:00 jam with hendrix on bass, john lee hooker, and zappa. . that would be awesome.
arthur is truly a earthly treasure ..and that is not an understatement !!
I’d like to hear more about Vincent Crane 🎹 who was the count of
The Crazy World
Man, what a cool guy.
I’d like to contradict something Arthur says. In the very beginning he spoke about “disappearing“ into the performance moment, or something along those lines. I am a performing/working musician myself, and I’ve known moments of bliss in the live music situation, and in fact, it’s not disappearing or really “losing yourself“… It’s actually a matter of being truly present and alive in the moment. I’m going to guess that Mr. Brown would, agree with me there…
Journey (The Greatest Space Rock Album of All-Time) is flippantly skimmed over here. Huge dis
Journey is still in my top 5 albums that I listen to. Headphones, with a darkened room and I'm gone. Arthur with Kingdom come was a great combination. Wish there had been more from them.
I thought the very same thing. Journey is the Arthur Brown album that first introduced me to the great and talented Arthur. A classic effort from beginning to end that still sounds great to this day.
Saw him in person in the 60s. Fabulous!
We had a really big fire the Laguna Fire in San Diego county in 1970 around that time, and we went up to some people's house who had a telescope and watched the fire, and they played that song 'Fire' the song stuck in my head, and scared me. There was something sexy about it at the same time as being scary.
Heard some unreleased material that Arthur recently recorded as a guest on a band from South America. You can hear King Diamond, Bruce Dickinson, Ian Gillan, Rob Halford, Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson etc etc etc. So many have been influenced by Arthur. He is in his seventies and his voice sounds like Pavorotti !!! He is singing better than ever. Creative genius.
As a metal head and someone who also finds enjoyment in most music (save rap, and most "Country" music", even though Chet Atkins was a great uncle of mine), this guy totally blew my mind. In total agreement with your statement Mr.Fred. The last 3 years of my life have been much improved by this talented man, and all who play with him.
Arthur Brown...a cult of one.
He, one of not many.
Bless you Arthur.🔥🤯⭐
I saw the Crazy World of Arthur Brown open for
The Steve Miller Band
Fleetwood Mac Blues Band
The Who
at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles
and blew The Who off the stage
I knew this guy was amazingly spiritual ten seconds after I first listened to Kingdom Come
I had the pleasure to play with this wonderful man in a bohemian cafe in Hawick, Scotland. A sublime and enlightening gig . Thanks Arthur , peace be with you .
you lucky, lucky bastard
This is my teachers uncle beat that!
I am loving this cat
They say this cat Brown is a bad mother
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' 'bout Arthur
(Then we can dig it)
Evidence that supports the fact that if a child is exposed to religious curiosities and learns to mediate, that child will likely benefit. The fruition of an open mind and empty mind sure appear to have provided this man with a fierce availability which has allowed fearlessness, inspiration, bold/brilliant creativity, generosity, INTEGRITY, love, trust, that REAL VOICE and attractive MAJESTY! AND . . . EVERYBODY wants to know and play with him! I was taught the, "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" at age 4 or 5, heard "Fire" on the radio at 14, and the whole side A at 16. Spiritually calibrated through the Kingdom Come efforts which fundamentally continues to steer my spirit. AND Of Course throughout my life, I've continued to be awed, by his efforts. WHAT A GAS to finally see him live in 2017(San Francisco including "Rest Cure" and "Sunrise"!!!!). ONLY DIVINE AVAILABILITY can provide us with such a Spirit of Joy. THANK YOU GOD for the blessing of Arthur Brown, may his voice sing on into ETERNITY!

I have always admired King Arthur for his awesum wackyness,, Still do. Would love to party with him one weekend,
That man s a genius, i was nt into his music before, just heard god of hell fire, and it seemed to me that somebody put king diamond, deep purple, and black sabbath, in a blender. 1000 years ahead.
Sounds like some good lsd or a higher conciousness arthur's got going on.
He was 11 or 12 when this happened (about 1954). There was no LSD involved or anything like it. It is great seeing a person experience this directly and naturally
@@granthurlburt4062 Note I did say "or higher conciousness" which can be achieved naturally in many ways, one being meditation. LSD is a very spiritual experience for many and where people transcend to a higher consciousness. I dont know Arthur but he impresses me as a very enlighened person. He has alot to offer anyone who listens
What a wizard.
fantastic!
One song tells the closing of one world and opens the crazy world of AB.
Right on Author!!! Bless you man.
Such a lovely bloke!
Iain Journey is a great album what are you going on about!!!
very enlightening glad t have met hm at gla

It sounds as if you two are dancing around it.. as if you're saying, or alluding to something, without actually saying exactly what it is...
He was 11 or 12 when he had the vision/experience of being one with the wind rippling the crops. In 1954. No drugs involved. If you listen you tell he's skeptical about many aspects of the hippie "philosophy" along also with supporting other hippie ideals. And enjoying the creative freedom and openness to originality that was typical of the late 60's and early 70's.
k
@@granthurlburt4062 that's not at all what I was referring to. Indeed he is a very talented man, indeed I can see that he is definitely set apart from the mainstream, as well as smarter than the mainstream, especially in that day and age in the 60s and such. What I'm referring to is the fact that it seems that you two are alluding to something much more prolific than the hippie movement...
Something spiritual in nature perhaps but not mainstream, at least not in the 60s...
I just adore him… such a talented man.
☘ Irish Honey Badger - Arthur Brown 80
I absolutely love Strange Lands .perfection .
I saw him at the Redcar Jazz Club.
seeing him tomorrow ! he's 81!
nice dashiki
(nah, just kidding)
First heard Galactic Zoo Dossier, on acid. Believe me; that made an impression I've never forgotten.
So much emotion in Arthur's voice! One of the; if not THE voice, in rock music. Love it!!!
Eres historia pura de la musica tu influencia sobre muchos es notable
Love this guy fire 🔥
Apart from his first (Fire)album ,very much loved what he did with Robert Calvert on "Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters".
Spare us organised religion "charismatics" like Graham though.... 'Fire & Brimstone' madness thankfully had a positive influence on Arthur.
The rest of these charismatics' victims mostly become zombies.
I focused the magnifying glass, that brought the downfall of Icarus.
Fire scared the bejesus outta me as a kid...and still kinda creeps me out, it's a very intense song. And I.M.O Arthur has the best vocals in the business. There's no one else like him.
He is so cool fire 🔥
Arthur is 79 in 2021.
To the last writer in the queue,Bullstuff.
Didn't you hear this interview?
I think their music is fine. I don't love it, but it's not to bad. This man's life though! Bloody legend.
love his collaboration with Craig Leon ‘The Complete Tapes of Atoya ’ 🔥
This is what I've been looking for.. Wow.
he was born the same year my mother was and one month later.
I drank 4 beers, then watched Part 1
i want a shirt like that
Check him out full length, its a suit
He sold his soul to the God of Helfire...
Dumbass comment. You didn't listen to a word he said. But you'll jump up and down and give a hundred dollars to a jack-leg TV preacher.
He is far more in contact with the divine than you'll ever be, asshat!
My old man saw Arthur Brown in the 60s.
He became a massive Genesis fan and when he saw Peter Gabriel and his costumes he told me he immediately saw Arthur Brown.
Wasn’t until I saw that Arthur Brown influenced Peter Gabriel a bit.
He was possesed?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
😴😴😴
this oughtta be good!
"I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE!!!"

"I'll take you to burn."
Wait, what? Oh, sorry about that, my turn......."ALL THREE OF YOU ARE TOOLS"

far out thanks for this
Fantasy and easy to do. Glastonbury 2022, "the 8 voices of Arthur Brown".. .. Along with a first class full blown orchestra, a band with unbridled passion, and 8 singers working in tandem to replicate, and assist Arthur as he stands at center stage. "the 8 voices of Arthur Brown" .. Glastonbury 2022 ..
The man needs Jesus!
For what? A dancing partner?
And who does not??
And you need a psychiatrist
So do you.
