Paid for what? That he doesn’t want civilians dying? Israel has murdered 20-30 thousand people while Palestinians are being stripped of their rights to live. As far as I can tell total victory over Hamas means that Hamas isn’t the governing authority in Palestine … kind of like victory over Germany in W2 meant removing the nazis as governing authority
We can argue over whether this is a good objective but please don’t muddy the waters by pretending the objective isn’t clear

Didn't realize Bill Maher was relevant back then and still even now.
It's interesting hearing the comment "what does total victory over Hamas mean? No one has really laid that out"...first, I believe they have, total victory means degrading Hamas ability to wage war against Israel, taking out as many Hamas members as they can to the point where there isn't any infrastructure left to launch attacks from. That seems pretty clear to me. Second, how many "conflicts" are the US involved with that have absolutely no defined end game? That seems to be what we do, we are going to be involved in Afghanistan until....we decide to leave? We are going to help Ukraine until....they decide to stop fighting? We NEVER define what our objectives are so its a bit rich to require an ally to do that when we never do.
Agree with Briahna that it has gone beyond self defense. Persecution of thousands of Palestinans.

I'm a bit confused. I saw this as two guys having fun trash talking each other like neighborhood friends, but this take here makes it sound like to enemies going to war. Kind of weird.

Two points. October 7th was an event rather than a conflict. While it’s not difficult to see Israel’s retaliation as a rational response (not a hill I would die on) Israel didn’t have a right as such. Israel’s right to exist or strike back are arguments that Israel owns whichever side of the table you sit.
Respect for Niall Stanage, he called out propagandist Kirby during White House press meetings.

Then you also stand with Hamas... because 70% of Pal stands with Hamas.

I like Maher and have been a long time fan. He's gone too far down the pro Israeli side on this one IMO.
Regarding thinking he and others similar are taking a brave stand. These are often people in very left leaning areas such as Hollywood or academia, in these micro cultures taking a mainstream stance is putting yourself out there to be attacked.

According to another poll of Pal's, back in Sept., about 12% supported Hamas... but after 10/7, that rose to over 40%.
@@nyetzdyec3391 -- Interesting. The "natives" are being blown up because Hamas launched the 7 October attack. In a rational world, they would be all over Hamas for messing up the status quo. But that didn't happen. The IDF has a moral right and obligation to go after Hamas. If the natives protect them, then they are bringing these troubles on themselves.
@nyetzdyec3391 WAY to cherry pick data. The poll ALSO says that support for Hamas has dropped back down to 34% since December. And the poll does NOT specifically say it's Oct 7th they support, but an "armed conflict" that just means they feel like they need to use weapons. The poll ALSO states that the majority prefer to look for non-violent solutions, and are against ANY killing of civilians.
If you're going to quote polls, quote ALL of what it says next time.

I've tried to listen to his podcast when he's had interesting guests on, but he is insufferable imo. He's constantly cutting off guests and comes off as extremely patronising whenever someone has a different view than him.
