Bob Dylan once said that the only bad thing about a Gordon Lightfoot song was that they had to end. 😊
His Don Quixote album is undoubtedly one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard.
Absolutely - a perfect album.
Gordon Lightfoot was one of the best. And this, was one of his best.
Gordon's lyrics are poems put to music. The symplicity of the arrangements make the music a vessel for his words, enhancing but not distracting. He has passed away but his music will live on forever.
Love your reaction to this! This was the song my wife and I had our Bride and Groom dance to at our wedding... 40 years ago. Yes, we're still together and she is always beautiful.
Gordon Lightfoot has written some of the most beautiful lyrics of all time! Three of my favorites from Gordon are "Don Quixote" and "Affair on 8th Avenue" and "Song for a Winter's Night." Such a great songwriter!
I absolutely love "Song for a Winter's Night". I like to play it in the middle of summer, and let the images of a snowy night fill my mind. I bet Angela would love it too.
Another Bob Dylan Quote: Gordon Lightfoot died having never written a bad song.
A perfectly titled song. One of the most beautiful songs ever. Wonderful reaction.
The Circle is Small. Its wonderful..
"Tell me a story, Mr. Lightfoot..."...from all of our hearts...
This my wife and I's wedding song. We went to 3 of his shows together. There were many more slick and modern ballads we could've chosen. But there's something about him we both find special.
Song For a Winter’s Night, Rainy Day People, Carefree Highway. Three more of Gord’s hits and all Wonderful.
"Carefree Highway" always 'gets to me'. I have had to many loves lost.
Lyrics and voice but let’s not forget how beautiful that guitar playing was.
It was indeed. I also liked the way the strings came in just before the end.
Very underplayed song. A real gem!
His sound...his talent can't be confused with any other. I've listened to him for 50 years. It's hard to believe he's gone.
It was like Gordon was singing it to you. Great reaction !
The look on your face at times during this one, I could see it was him penetrating your heart... because you were very beautiful as you listened!
This is probably one of the greatest love songs ever written without the word love in the lyrics. Thanks for reacting to it. I like how he repeats in the lyrics "telling you"
Of all of his fabulous songs this has always been my favorite.
So glad you liked it.
There's nothing not to love about Gordon Lightfoot's songs. He always poured his heart into everything.
Gordon uses a 12 string acoustic guitar that has a really great sound to it. Check out his song, Song for Winter's Night. You will love that one too.
I can't help but think of my mom when I hear Gordon. She was a single mom with me tow, and would play records on a record player in a plastic case she bought at a pawn shop, in our little apartment because that is all we had for entertainment and it was wonderful. She loved his music, as do I. Her middle name is Anne, family calls her 'Sandra Anne' and she reminds me, in my mind, of Gordan's Anne in "Carefree Highway". She is constitutionally emotionally aloof . My stepdad, my hero, wrangled her into a family and I have 2 awesome brothers. He saved us from savages
Off of Gordon LIghtfoot's "Endless Wire" album is a re-recording of a previous song he released called "The Circle Is Small." He slowed it down, added additional instrumentation and vocalizes such raw emotional pain in his voice. He proves once again that Mr. Lightfoot is one of the best singer/songwriters of all time because he convinces you to share the emotions he feels.
The title says it all. Beautiful 😊
"Affair on 8th Avenue", "Beautiful", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy", "The Last Time I Saw Her" "Ode to Big Blue", "Old Dan's Records", "Heaven Help the Devil", "Shadows", 14 Karat Gold", "Your Love's Return (Song for Stephen Foster)", "Make Way For The Lady", "Spanish Moss", Bitter Green", Carefree Highway", "Minstrel of the Dawn", "All the Lovely Ladies", "Ode to Big Blue", "Christian Island (Georgian Bay)". "Dream Street Rose", "Endless Wire", "Ghosts of Cape Horn", If Children Had Wings", "I'm Not Supposed to Care", "Is There Anyone Home", "Looking at the Rain", "Now and Then", "A Passing Ship", "Race Among the Ruins", Rainy Day People", "Softly", "Song for a Winter's Night", "Stone Cold Sober", "Talking in Your Sleep", "Triangle", "Thank You for the Promises", "Summertime Dream", "She's Not the Same", " On the High Seas", "Pussywillows, Cat-Tails", " If You Need Me"...
-These are just a few that come to mind.
Give these a listen, and I think you will see why I say that Gord is alone at the top.
There are singer-songwriters, and there is Gordon Lightfoot
Angela, I've always made partiuclar note in the lyrics that he refers to their relationship in this way: "We've been friends through rain or shine for such a long, long time." I think that's what sets this song apart from other romantic ballads.
Look into my eyes DayOne.. You are so beautiful!!...
Thanks!
I'm sorry I missed this. Thanks so much!
Beautiful song with great acoustic guitar. One of those artistes you don't hear that much, but when you do its really good. Like his 'If you could read my mind'-Colin Ward
A Canadian national treasure. Gordon Lightfoot was such a gifted singer and songwriter. Even Bob Dylan, one of the greatest songwriters of all time loved to listen to Lightfoot's music.
Since you loved this song, I highly recommend another talented Canadian singer/songwriter in Stan Rogers. Stan had the ability to tell a story and make you feel as if you were there. His song Lies is a similar idea to Beautiful, in this case of a farmer's wife who feels her age and feels the hard life of work and sweat, yet also knows her husband still sees the beautiful woman he married many years before.
"Is this the face that won for her the man
Whose amazed and clumsy fingers put that ring upon her hand?
No need to search that mirror for the years.
The menace in their message shouts across the blur of tears.
So this is Beauty's finish. Like Rodin's "Belle Heaulmiere",
The pretty maiden trapped inside the ranch wife's toil and care.
Well, after seven kids, that's no surprise,
But why cannot her mirror tell her lies.
All lies.
All those lines are telling wicked lies.
Lies all lies.
Too many lines there in that face;
Too many to erase or disguise;
They must be telling lies.
Then she shakes off the bitter web she wove,
And turns to set the mirror, gently, face down by the stove.
She gathers up her apron in her hand,
Pours a cup of coffee, drips Carnation from the can,
And thinks ahead to Friday, 'cause Friday will be fine!
She'll look up in that weathered face that loves hers, line for line,
To see that maiden shining in his eyes
And laugh at how her mirror tells her lies."
Sheer genius and that's only one of so many of his songs.
ANGELA : YOU'VE LISTENED TO ONE OF 2 OR 3 OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LOVE SONGS EVER COMPOSED & PERFORMED. THIS IS LIGHTFOOT AT HIS VERY FINEST. RIP. --------------MJL, 77 Y/O
Hey beautiful ! Thanks for playing that song, it's been decades since I last listened to that. I'm pretty it was on an 8-track.
DOR, you'll love "Pussywillows, Cattails" and the original recording of "Early Morning Rain" each song from The United Artists Collection. Enjoy!
OMG I cried, what just happened?!... sir..your songs are too beautiful (kidding) ... ahhh.. ..Im adding this so I don't forget what love sounds like. ❤
This is one of my favorite songs to play. Gordon was an absolute legend🔥👍🏼
Consider playing, Song for a Winter's Night.
Gorgeous song. Loved how you obviously loved it. Gordon was the best!! 😅
Certainly one of his best, it is one of many listed on the base of his statue/bust here in Orillia at the Opera House.
The title says it all
Never been a huge fan of Lightfoot, but this is indeed nice...
One of Canada's best!
You should check out "All The Lovely Ladies" by Gordon if you liked this one. Not the 1988 version though, the original from 75 when his voice was in its prime
I was lucky enough to see him in concert in February of 73 at Bowling Green State University. What a delightful show. Bob Rahm
This is one of my favorites. Another beautiful one; hard hitting straight to the heart is: "The Last Time I Saw Her Face". Poignantly emotional and stunning...you may shed a tear or two on this one. I have to say; this is one of his best of all time.
For several years that I have been watching reaction video's, I have been recommending this song to the many reactors I watch. Finally, the Beautiful Angella reacts to "Beautiful". Very fitting. Thank you.
My favorite by him is If You Could Read My Mind! This one is pretty cool! See ya on Monday for more musical fun! Hasta pronto!
So many great songs
Great! Gordon Lightfoot. All you have to say is Gordon Lightfoot. Everybody knows what you're saying.
Try rainy day people 😊
oh i love his music!
Have you reviewed Sunrise by Gordon Lightfoot?
I loved watching your reaction Angela and your beautiful 😊
Most GL fans are also Harry Chapin fans. Please, if u haven’t already, you must react to HCs “Greatest Stories Live” version of “A Better Place to Be”
No words can describe this one!
Keep listening, pick anything off his hits album Gord's Gold. A double album of smashers
❤❤❤❤
I cried ! Love this song heard it many times..
Your reaction was so grear !
One of Gordon's very best songs, from one of his best albums, recorded during his golden era of late 60s and early 70s. Please check out "Same Old Loverman" and "Cotton Jenny". They will make your day. ❤
Great reaction to a good song. When you cry my heart melts.❤ You make my Fridays special. Thank you.
This came from an amazing era and some very talented artists from North of the border.
Lucky to be the one telling you. What a thought.
Angela, had I the chance, I would tell you that you're beautiful every day, and I'm sure a ton of guys here would do the same. I stopped telling you this in the comments because I felt I would start to sound weird and "stalky" 🤗😊💕. Just know, you have loyal followers and I'm pretty sure the person requesting this song was also trying to tell you something 😊.
Thank you for the diversity. I am now a true fan of DayOne.
Song is about you!
This is Lightfoot. He's a folk singer, not a pop star.
You should check out Elives " If i can dream " you will never be the same ..❤you homie
Very good song and so similar in expression to Eric Clapton's song You Are So Beautiful.
Do you mean Clapton's song Wonderful Tonight?
@@DavidB-2268 That song is similar in nature. But Gordon Lightfoot used a line with the same expression as the title I previously mentioned.
Your beautiful
