Excellent full detailed video! I will tell you again you are the best electronics technician on youtube who explains what he does and why he does it so that your videos are the best in the field of electronic repairs! Congratulations and thank you very much for the great video!
Thank you !☺️my receiver was doing the same thing. After watching this vid I checked the speaker wires on my speakers. Turns out one of my kids unplugged my speaker and left it unplugged and were touching together.
@NorCal715 I have repaired hundreds of these just a heads up the repairs are straight forward as you have shown. But please know that the HDMI board on these fail all the time and I have also repaired hundreds of those. So make sure you let the customer know that the output repair can be done but don’t be surprised when the HDMI board starts to get flaky shortly after the repair. Why because that is how it always goes when a repair person works on something. Another thing you will want to do is tighten all the transistor screws. Trust me they will all be loose and I sometimes think this is why they fail; they don’t have good contact and just over heat. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge I am sure helps a lot of people.
This comment saved me a bunch if time. I couldn't figure out why it was kicking out. Turns out it's knly hdmi kicking out. Where would I find a replacement board. Or is there a test for this?
I have the exact same unit with the same fault but no heat marks on the transistors but it appears the front right transistor has failed using the meter. My unit lasted 11 years.
In case this has to go to the landfill then you can make an attempt to cut the bottom of the case just around the zone where you have to work using a Dremmel with a cutting disc for metal, just being careful to not let the cutting wheel to enter more than a millimeter inside the bottom panel.
Then the problem would be how to close the opening, and this would require some job, you would need some metal sheet strips to solder around the cut piece and then solder them to the bottom plate, and that would require a very powerful solderer.
Thank you for posting the video. My Onkyo TX-SR701 is popping on subwoofer when I on or off.Could tell what kind of issue and area that I could troubleshoot.!
I purchased this model used about 7 years ago and it's served me well up until now. It's starting to make loud popping noises in every speaker. I've swapped all wires and done as much trouble shooting as I know how to do, then found your video. I think my unit is done. In your description it mentioned something about donating units and keeping stuff like this out of landfills. I like the idea of this, but curious if you're still interested in something like this for parts, etc.
Thanks for the video 🙌🏻🙌🏼 Very clearly explained. Mine is the tx-600E, puh-leese tell me there a factory reset, press a couple buttons ... and voila? I went into 'protect' after I connected the sub there was popping, and from then on, just switches off straight away. Your part two is playing now - I really don't know.. it could easily come out worse if I have to do all that 😭😭 t t prior to that there was no sound atl. art 2 is on right now.
Very Interesting , I have had this exact receiver from new , never had an issue with it in the 12 years I've had it (Bought June 2008).I know others have had CAP problems on the top HDMI Switching board. Perhaps I've just been lucky I guess. I suspect if I wanted to keep the receiver longer and improve the sound quality , I could replace the CAPS on the lower board with better ones , if that is the amp board, with something like Mundorf E Caps or M Caps.
Hi I have a issue with my onkyo TxSr 343 it goes on amp dialog mode in few minutes after clearing the fault by pressing CBL/SAT and standby mode please advise if you can help me fix the issue.
Dismantling is not that bad. You keep the back panel attached and just disconnect a few cables from the front, then the entire internal structure lifts out as one. There is just enough cable to stand it on it's side over the transformer. Watch the last cable doesn't fold over as it wraps over the transformer while you lay the assembly down on it's side. I'm going to have to watch part 2 now to see if he works it out. Oh no, he didn't, copy and paste!
Cut a hole in the bottom of the thing with a dremel, I've done that before, the customer won't notice, just put some kind of cover on it when finished.
Start with a full reset. Usually in the instruction / owners manual. You usually have to hold 2 or 3 keys down while powering up the unit. Let me know how it goes.
I have an onkyo txsr333 and it is doing the same..but for about after 5 minutes it will turn off..sometimes longer. Does the power fluctuations affects the unit as well? Checked the speaker connections(Bose AM 6) and they are fine.
It's a HDMI unit, I'd be surprised if the customer didn't want it fixed, but then again, I don't know the replacement cost or the quote you'd have to set for the work involved. Are Sanken MP130S/MN130S transistors easily available for quick delivery where you are (weeks to get them in Aus).
A great deal of the time, the incorrect speaker types are substituted. These units often end up in flea markets without the correct speakers. They generate a great deal of heat by design and over the years, incur multiple solder joint cracks.
Hi, I also have a receiver of this model, and the current problem has no video output signal, whether it is HDMI or color difference, or video output. I know that the HDMI board is a common problem with this model and I have replaced the 5 capacitors on the HDMI board. Please tell me where I should check. Thanks!
@NorCal715 That raises a new question: What if I do use my surround channels but never use my *back* channels (6 & 7 in a 7.1 unit). So if my surround burnt out, then can I "clip out" (cannibalize) parts from my unused *back* and use them to replace what's burnt?
Yo tengo un onkio..pense que era un mejor equipo ,pero no es asi..falta coneccion de youtube ,netflix ,faltan unos 2 portales usb .un mejor sonido para musica..

Thanks for the video! I just threw my Onkyo in the trash !! Not burning my house down.

I had a TX-SR600. Loved it! It had a reputation for getting hot, and it needed good ventilation!
I always get some knowledge of electronics when watching Norcal715 videos.

Will do thanks for the heads up. I plan on ESRing the caps on the hdmi board also when parts arrive.

Cancel that. It just runs longer with tuner mode. Still kicks out. Any ideas?
What do you mean by it's still kicks out does it power off do you lose audio please provide some more info.
I just started it up with sound one speaker. It runs for about 10 min then goes to blinking standby light.
Got a tx-nr 727....same issue. What's approx cost to repair?
Having same issue, this is helpful, thanks!

same model and had similar issues. repaired and other channel blew later on. my speaker/cables test good. replaced with a arcam and no issues since

I have a similar issue and the display stop working how much ball park to fix my 606
I'm working a 706 right now, and there are even more and larger daughter and grand daughter boards. This is not an easy amp to work on.

Great idea!
Not a bad idea, beats pulling the unit apart.
My first thought, but then I'd worry about shavings getting into other bits.
Ya thats not gonna happen! They did approve the estimate and I have parts on order. Stay tuned for part 2
Looking forward to pt2, cheers for the videos.
Sir my onkiyo receiver stays in only DVD mode if change to any other mode it immediately returns to DVD Mode please suggest me the solution

Is it helpful to use an Automatic Voltage Regulator?

Can anyone help ? I have a Yamaha ax-396 stereo amplifier that switches On but goes in standby mode and clicks the relay and does not switch on .
Definitely had my fair share of tearing these down.
What goes wrong?

nice video

I sure hope the customer wants to fix this amp. I think there might be more smoking issues on the other side of that pcb. 🤷♂️
It was approved. $200 total including parts shipping and labor.
@@norcal715 Did you ever do a follow-up video on this?
@@Salty_Legionnaire ruclips.net/video/KdGs_0yjFxs/видео.html
Transistors with the majaic smoke gone.
That would be so ashamed if bad speaker wire installation caused this. Looks like a decent A/V amp.
I have a Yamaha receiver that does the same thing !
Just clip off bad components, the system will probably start working. Who cares about surround channels anyway!

Still hard at it i see lol
Yep. Like I said I have many more items to come.
I do not know electronics, but I think that the designers should have designed this unit to withstand incorrect wiring.
Steve, who are these ppl that are posting the nonsense posts....looks like X rated channels.!
Ya its spam everywhere, even on other channels. I delete them and block them.
@@norcal715 ...I figured that, I've seen on other channels as well..
Ridiculous.
