  • First steps on this brand new VCO by Doepfer, the A 111-4 Quad Precision . There are hardly any video's on this module yet. LFO comes from an external source, on the Koma Electronic. It's not music, just some noise. Very nice noise indeed.

Does this vco a-111-4 sound the same than the a110-1? I mean each of its 4 oscillators are the same than one a-110-1 regarding the sound? Which one do you recommend me and why ? Thanks

hi! Not sure, I never heard the A110-1, but the schematics of one VCO from the A-111-4 should be the same. So compared to one VCO of the A-111-4 I expect the sound to be the same. But with all possibilities the A-111-4 is very fat. :-)
I'd recommend the A-111-4. You could use only one VCO of it and it works the same as the A111-1, you can actually use it as four of them, with 4 different VCA's and ADSR Envelope generators. Moreover you have the sync function (2:09). I also want to try to send the output of one VCO to the voltage controlled frequency (VCF) of the other VCO: Frequency Modulation.

Late reply here, but I'm currently considering an a-111-4 because it's the CEM 3340 VCO chips only found on Doepfer's "Precision" models. The a-110-1 has a different VCO.

Wow, that sounds good. Thanks for the upload.

aahhh finally !!!! thanks for posting this !! it' sounds great !!!! ;) i planed to take one but i need to see how it is with the others range jumper settings, can you put another video please, with the range jumper settings on 1 octave and the 4 octaves like in the manual ? thanks bro !!! cheers from france ! ^ ^

hi! thanks and sorry for the late reply ☺ I added a few modules to the system now and I'll make another video with the 'standard' jumper settings. I have an analog sequencer, quad LFO-ADSR , so many possibilities now.

    Hello @Tha,
If you set the Tune range to 2 semitones, would the 'resolution' of the Tune knob be near to Cents, so one could use it as more Fine tune? For example tune one slightly up and one slightly down, without changing them a semitone up or down?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean. If you add 2 semitones to the main and subtract 2 from OSC1, OSC will play the intended pitch reveived from CV.

Tha ; Internally you can set the Tune range to 1 octaves, 4 octaves and 2 semitones.
When set to the 1 or 4 octave scale and you turn the tune knob, you will go through semitone steps or is it 'stepless'?
What I would like to know, if you set the time range to 2 semitones, will it act like the 'Fine' knob on the A-111-2 module? I would like to detune two of four VCO slightly, but not a 'full' semitone.

studio48nl studio48nl Aha. I think Yes. I haven’t tried the 111-2 or the internal jumper settings but the knob is stepless. You can finetune. I guess with 2 tone range the fine tuning gets finer. The oscillators are well divided electronically. That means the tendency of two detuned oscillators to fall in sync is low. This enables me to make dirty sounds. If you’d buy two regular Oscillators detuning would be harder, they would quickly sync through the power supply. At 0:47 you hear this syncing behavior.

Tha ; thank you for your reply. With PWM and 'fine tune', this can be a real 4vco beast in a small box.

I am awaiting a 4+3 track analog step sequencer by Koma and an ADSR/VCA. It can handle the many CV inputs this VCO has. I'll try to make the fattest sound from the VCO then and put it on youtube! ☺

thanks for this video. I was wondering why no one has uploaded anything on the A 111-4 so fare, but finally ;)

That’s why I made the video. No examples. Nothing nada. It was a bit hard to get the device. Maybe that’s why. Should get one yourself I’d like to know your experiences.

I'm just starting out with Euro Rack, and I have to get some basic modules first, so it will take me a while to get this :/ But I will try it out at Schneiders Laden soon, or at Superbooth next week :)

I don't have a VCA / ADSR yet.... so I get your point ☺ But even then, you can have a lot of fun with it.
