As a Singaporean who lived in Australia, its not that the West is failing. But certainly when crisis arise Chinese people solve it with brutal efficiency while Westerners become armchair philosophers to debate human rights and governmental systems.
Still baffles me, if there is a fire in your apartment you put it out right, but Westerners would spend time debating where the fire came from while criticising their roommate's way of life, who may or may not have accidentally started the fire.

You got it right. Talk is cheap. We create our own problems then blame it on others. As long as we can blame someone else, we do not have to do anything but talk about it. We are waiting for that someone else to solve the problem.

Democractic systems have its flaws. But if I had to choose between a democractic vs a communist system, I still choose democracy. Have freedom of speech is priceless. Having lived through the years before China opened to the world in early 1980s, educated in the West and now living in China, I think the US failed to understand that China now has a governance system that is not based on ideology, but a system driven by targets, especially economic targets. It is absurd in China if you argue if the country is a communist or capitalist. Improving living standard is in everyone's mind. To Chinese people, the US is now probably more ideologically based. Whatever you say China being an oppressive, authoritarian regime, or one that is only boasting successes and concealing failures, it won’t change the fact China remains the top-most country most trusted by its own nationals. Its approval ratings > 90% is envied by all its western counterparts. The dramatic growth of its economy in the last 4 decades, making its the 2nd largest economy after the USA. Its ascension to the middle-income bracket while lifting nearly 800 million people from poverty. Its success in beating the covid-19 pandemic with the lowest infection and death rates among major economies. Advancements in 5G/6G, quantum computing/telecommunication, space exploration, Beidou navigational system, etc, all of which are making China one of the most competitive countries.
This only says one thing loud and clear - its socialism model with unique Chinese characteristics is one that is working, and for that matter, it is far more efficient than Western Capitalism Model where 99% of wealth is controlled by the top 1%. China is now embracing on its latest 'Common Prosperity' program, building an even bigger middle class group as well as spreading the national wealth more evenly among its nationals.
Perhaps in the not-too-distant future, China will attain its goal of national rejuvenation, regaining its leadership position in the central stage of the global arena, leading its vast population to prosperity, stability, and peace.

To paraphrase, it's not ideology that matters. Regardless of whether it's capitalism or communism, what counts are the results ie the people can have food on the table, be decently covered, kept warm with a roof over their heads, and be educated with its history and culture as foundations. To the CCP, it's NOT the PROCEDURAL matter of having multiple parties, one person one vote (universal suffrage) nor elections every 4 -5 years aka democracy as practise currently in the liberal world. For the CCP, it's the measurable OUTCOME (as defined above) that counts via its political system and structure ... regardless of how you label it .... as communism or whatever.

I've been living in China for more than 20 years. I want to point out that "one-party" or "No general election" doesn't mean that Chinese people cannot express their opinions or criticize the government. The West always tends to describe China as a nation without "freedom" and the people living there are "unhappy" under the high pressure of the central government. But the fact is actually the opposite. Chinese people are satisfied with their leader and system. They trust the government because the system enables the government to find the most capable politicians to "Serve the people" but not make the election become a ridiculous game of the rich.

    • @yourfavouritebard6313
      @yourfavouritebard6313 3 года назад +7

Absolutely agree. I find it interesting how Chinese and people from many democratic countries have a completely different mindsets in terms of government. Eg when facing the pandemic, many people in the western countries view the measurements taken by their government such as lockdown and vaccine as a violation to liberty/human rights. However in China, people see these measurements as an inherent responsibility of the government. They think that by doing so, the government is caring about the people's live, and they willing to participate together to achieve the same goal as with the government. I think this mindset is the crucial point of why the virus has been contained so well in China, and this willingness to cooperate with the government is unseperatable with the China model.

The Chinese success is actually more about east Asian culture, not democracy or authoritarianism.
We can look at another issue that the Asians have been doing much better than the west, especially America: drugs.
In China, and all other countries that have been influenced by Chinese culture in the region, have very strict laws against drugs. Users would be sent to forced withdrawal, drug dealers can be put to death. This is completely unimaginable for westerners.

One of the things I hear that’s commonly repeated by western media is how the cultural revolution and agriculture reforms were an economic failure for China. While if you are judging from the economic perspective, that is true. But, that is where the point is missed. The point of the reforms weren’t to make China rich at the time, it was to change the culture of bourgeoisie and elitism to “re-set” the nation together so it wouldn’t grow apart, so people were United in mind, spirit, and actions. Money wasn’t on their mind, because that wasn’t important for the whole at the time. It was not about the individual but creating a new culture. This wasn’t just communism that caused this but they were searching for this new culture since the early 1900s with the decline of the Qing Dynasty, and inability of the old system from protecting Chinese peoples and lands. It’s hard to interpret another system if you don’t understand the history and context. Every analysis I hear from the west is from the Western perspective and applying western understandings and their own beliefs onto China. That in itself is a fallacy. If you are a plumber and judging everything like a broken window from the plumbing perspective you are not getting the whole picture and misconstruing facts to fit into your own narrative.

Collectivistic economy model in China rural area at that time allows Government to have the ability that can arrange millions of jobless young men/women to work in the land of the rural. And that's about it. People talk, march, protest, vote, and yet Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, the financial crisis, covid and Trump happened. More are on the way, and few of them are because of China. It makes this whole video absurd - pointing finger at China, saying it "promotes" its model and questioning its sustainability...does little in sorting your own house out. Anxiety and fear is making people losing ability to concentrate and on prioritize on the urgent.

That's one thing in which I believe we should be more like China. In the end both China, America and their allies are countries fighting for their own interests. China's restrictive system gives them a huge advantage to do pretty much whatever they want without internal opposition that the US and Europe don't have.

There’s nothing wrong with self reflection and admitting that there are flaws in your system it’s the only way to make things better.
China does this very well… they identify their deficiencies and take action to improve.

US is always judging other nation from its own, lot of times, selfish perspective: 1) China never intended to export its system (one system only fits its special condition) to other countries, IT IS THE US that feels can not dictate its own system onto China; 2) US always blame others for its failure, so it thinks that China's success is due to Western's failure. NO, China's success is because Chinese government adopted the social and economic policies that fits China and hard-working from Chinese people. By the same token, the decline of the US is not because of China, it is solely its own problem. China doesn't invade, doesn't sanction, doesn't arrest entrepreneur, academics from US. IT IS TIME for US to CLEARN ITS OWN MESS!

Particular the 5000 year cumulation of rich culture and wisdom which realized into the growth of China today which has been interrupted due to the western colonialism.
