A lot of these comments are funny to me as a Byzantine chanter myself, because I heard some of the Epic Byzantine Music pieces and thought 'Huh, that doesn't sound like Byzantine chant', and so I went and read the description and went 'I see, it's not meant to be Ecclesiastical Chant from the current tradition of post 18th century reformed music, it's a. Secular and b. Not from the exact same time period'. But apparently a bunch of other people immediately jumped to "Clearly this is totally fake and he's scamming us because this folk song about a local hero doesn't sound like a Cherubic Hymn by Phokaeus. It must be because he's an Iranian and doesn't know anything". Which is certainly one of the takes of all time.
Not gonna lie, for some reason i expected "Epic Talking" to mean reciting or chanting back to haters in a Homeric "Epic fashion" and was consequently disappointed this wasn't actually a culturally authentic diss track
People are so stuck up and "knowitall" in so many situations. You have not only opened my eyes to Ethnomusicology and sparked a massive interest in music theory in me, but also you have helped me embrace the Lebanese side of my heritage, which I used to ignore and push down. Your insight and interest in historically informed music from the Middle East has heavily helped me accept that I am Lebanese. Thank you Farya, by far one of my favorite youtubers ever.
I think internet is doing that to people. There's so much information online that anyone starts feeling like an expert and as though they've any real authority on a given subject
As a Greek dude when I heard the "thick Persian accent" on the Epirote part of the Janissary symphony I almost had an aneurysm, what do these people think we sound like?
They think you sound Persian :P In all fairness, accent detection is a questionable skill too, and a lot of biases come into play. They know he's of Persian descent, so they hear a Persian accent in what they think is his singing or speech. Our brains are good at lying to us :D
It's a weird psychological thing about some people. Their perception bends reality to match the a-priori expectation they've been given. They know I'm Iranian beforehand, and because they assume it's me who sang the song, they "hear" a Persian accent. They would have never "heard" that Persian accent had they known from the beginning it wasn't me who sang it. The reverse has happened too. Some people found my Greek songs first, and therefore assumed I'm Greek. Then the next video they click on is a French one, and they say "lol love your thick Greek accent when you sing French." Depending of which of my videos these people have found first, they assume my ethnicity, and end up perceiving an accent that matches that ethnicity. I've been told I have everything from a Greek to a Spanish to a Persian to an Indian accent. Basically some people's brains bend reality to match their preconceived expectations, rather than first experiencing reality and deriving conclusions from that.
@@faryafaraji Yeah I think a lot is more about cultural gatekeeping by some very entitled/nationalistic (often goes hand in hand) individuals, than acutal musical critique of your creations.
@@faryafaraji I'm good at accent detection because I'm a phonetic nerd (yes, I hear my own accent in various languages too). And what really impressed me is your rendition of various languages with phonetic preciseness. for everyone, let's take Greek: The Greek S sound is not like the S in English. We call it a "retracted S", you can hear it in languages such as Castilian Spanish, Dutch, and Icelandic. It's something between "S" as in "see" and "Sh" as in "she", to the average English-speaking human ear. Technically speaking, it's a sound lower in pitch than the S we have in English and many other languages. And Farya gets it extremely well, although it's quite a complicated sound. And it's just one single example. So Farya and accents… no, that arrow missed its goal.
Maybe I miss understood the Armenians guys comment but your videos in Armenian are in fact authentic. You always make sure to specify which dialect (Eastern/Western) and properly communicate witch instruments you use. People who expect you to know all these languages perfectly and pronounce them without any accent are delusional. Keep up the great work!
I am Dimlî Kurdish from Turkey, I showed your musics to my grandparents. They immediately recognized Girêsîra, and my grandfather started singing along. He said it sounded almost exactly like Zazakî, only the accent is a bit off which is completely normal in my opinion. Keep up the work, I think they are amazing. Especially the Byzantine and Roman musics are my favorites, although it would be better if you uploaded them to Spotify more often 😅
Mate, your epic talking taught me so many things about Eastern, Middle Eastern and Balkan music which I love, and those are videos I always rewatch. Besides that, your Why Does Greek Music Sound Eastern? is so on point, it's like you coherently expressed what every Greek person who respects their tradition always knew, but couldn't put to words. I am actually incredibly appreciative that you took the time to make it. Huge thank you for that and greetings from Epirus, Greece!
for the sake of bringing positivity, the orientalism video inspired me to make some d&b(-ish) in phrygian mode without a single duduk or oud, and I really like how it came out so thanks for all you do
@@chuckwagon3718 hoping to have the EP out by end of summer, but I'm not here to self-promote, Farya deserves to hear he also inspires people to make creative and fun things, and better and more interesting music, not just unsourced reddit screeds
If you just stuck to your own types of music (presumably Quebecois and Iranian) you'd be accused of "not branching out enough"; damned if you, damned if you don't...
Lol best part is I'm already being accused of that for not doing Chinese, Japanese, Aztec, etc. And my answer as to why I don't do these is simple: I have to study them first to not misrepresent them. But yeah, with haters it's a no win situation
@@faryafarajiOnce you have mastered every culture's music on earth I will complain that you don't know Martian music. Farya Faraji? More like FRAUD Faraji! /s
Your point about introducing Westerners to various musical traditions through your music hits home. So I would add, however, that it works also as a conscious process - often I want to listen to traditional music, but at first, it is too discordant to my expectations. Consciously, I can use your music to inoculate myself in a way, and then make further education and listening more palatable and accessible
It's a lightning rod. The very concept of authenticity gets people worked up, I think, because it forces people - educated people that pride themselves on their worldliness! - to confront the reality that much of their previous mental model of the world is actually... a caricature, a cartoon. For some people, finding out that the world is so much bigger, deeper, diverse, and confusing than what they thought can be invigorating ("there's so much to learn!"). For others, it's threatening - they enjoy the sense of 'having it all figured out', and when someone attacks those pre-conceived notions, they can't help but get defensive. Love the channel. It would be undeniably *easier* if you solely engaged in criticism and never created things yourself (or visa versa). Actually putting creative work out there at the same time will obviously invite the people that (1) don't like said criticism to (2) comb through your work and nitpick in bad faith. But with the knowledge that these people *are* nitpicking in bad faith, maybe... try not to let these comments get to you. "Hang out in the comment section in only the first 24 hours posting" is a RUclipsr rule of thumb for a reason - those are the people that're the most authentically engaged with your content. If you get 29 positive comments and one person that's negative, it's natural for the brain to zero in on that negative comment. But if you wade too much into that nonsense, it can give you a distorted sense of scale - that there's more hate than there actually is.
As a Romanian myself, when I've come across your renditions of older Romanian/Wallachian folk music I've never thought about it as being „inaccurate" or something like that. Sure, it sounded a bit „off" at first, because I wasn't really familiarized with Romanian music from this period, but when I took some time and I researched some interpretations of Anton Pann's music, for example (Leliță Săfiță; Ah, a mea iubită floare; Până când nu te iubeam etc.; especially the one done by the Anton Pann Ensemble, you should check them out), I realized that it's nothing alike what we Romanians generally perceive as „folk" or „traditional" music. The music theory aspects are different, the playing style is different, the instrumentation is different (you have for example instruments like the saz, the cobza - basically a version of the oud adopted by us -, the darbuka drum in some instances, if I'm not mistaken, I'm not an expert on the subject). And of course, if you are not used to this kind of music (or worse, if you haven't listened to it even once in your lifetime), it's gonna sound a bit weird. But that subjective weirdness that one might experience due to unfamiliarity is not equal to you being inaccurate. There's a big difference here that few take the time to actually understand, unfortunately. And by the way, this phenomenon of blatant ignorance transposed in the form of this „rants" it's not unique to foreign musicians who try to popularize our music and culture, like you do on this channel. To my surprise, I've seen comments on renditions done by ACTUAL ROMANIANS on Romanian music from the 18th, 19th century saying „oh this is just Gypsy/Turkish/Jewish music, it's not in any way representative of Romanian music and culture etc. etc.". Yes, *it is* representative of our culture, just for a period of time that you're not at all familiar with. That doesn't mean it's not part of the Romanian musical tradition. _Of course_ that Anton Pann was influenced by the Ottoman music of the time, both in term of instrumentation and melodic structure, but that doesn't make it Turkish/Arabic/anything like that. Unfortunately ignorance it's an universal phenomenon that it's not unique to random RUclips comments, Reddit users or just general haters, and that can only be counterattacked by reason and factual evidence. If you came all the way here to fully read this comment, thanks a lot for the patience. Continuă ce faci, că-i de bine! 👍 P.S.: Big respect for mentioning trei parale, they're one of the few that dive into the field of older Romanian music and they're honestly kind of underrated, even in Romania. You may find Romanians that know about folk musicians/interpreters like Tudor Gheorghe, Sofia Vicoveanca, Maria Tănase, Nicolae Furdui Iancu or Grigore Leșe, but few that know about older composers like Anton Pann, Barbu Lăutarul of even Dimitrie Cantemir (most of us know of him for being the ruler of Moldova and just that).
Farya! I’m no musicologist, but I am Greek and I’m a musician. Anything you do pertaining to Greek music is spot on. When I first heard you I was convinced you were Greek! Few people understand microtonal music better than you. Why waste your precious on haters? There is an ancient Greek saying: «Κι αν με πείθεις, ου με πείθεις.» Translation: “Even if you convince me, I remain unconvinced.”
@@username46656 It's in my plans but I know next to nothing about these musical traditions so I need to learn about them first. More of a long term thing in this case
9:30 I find this anecdote kind of funny because I personally had the opposite experience. RUclips is so inundated with "historical themed" songs that are made with 0 care or thought given to their authenticity to anything beyond a surface level aesthetic. Because of this, I initially was not interested in Farya's songs until watching the orientalism video and discovering that he clearly has actual knowledge and passion for the source material
Farya, firstly thank you so much for all your work. You have fantastic content and appreciate all your work and efforts. As a Greek Pontian growing up in Australia and a musician (Greek), I have been listening to Greek (all different Greek styles), Turkish, Arabic, Iranian, Assyrian, Kurdish music (from all parts from Greece to the Middle East) because it is all connected!!!! And as a musician, we can't wear blinkers, we need open mind otherwise how do we expand our creativity? Don't worry about the negative people as the good people here with you love your work! Keep up the good work brother!
Farya i respect you I’m greek from the Peloponnese and as soon as alot of westerners hear our music they instantly want to say it’s eastern influence or Turkish influence or something like that, I think the problem is that Hollywood and the west in movies always portrays ancient Greeks as like people from western or Northern Europe or like pro white race, when i see this to me its feels very uncomfortable, and in doing that they in plant a picture in people minds of how Ancient Greek music or modern Greek music should sound. I have also noticed alot of Greeks living in western countries start to believe these lies and tampering of Ancient Greek culture. For instance another one that makes me feel weird is that they sometimes portray ancient greeks as a blond Northern Europe looking race, When we know that ancient greeks looked like more of a eastern culture by the vase painting they left behind with black or dark brown hair being common and etc. I have alot of respect for the video you made “why Ancient greek music sounds eastern and why its a dumb question” in this video you said that greek music has always sounded like the way it does thousands of years before ottomans or any other eastern culture interacted with them, The truth is history shows ancient greeks were more of a eastern culture than a western culture and its modern westerners who want to steal it and call it western they so can be included in the rich history. Anyway Thank You Farya respect for you brother.
As a romanian, personally, you have done a massive good job on romanian music. Im surprised some of us didn't comment on the fact it does not sound like romanian music, since modern romanian music sounds preety much all the same and abuses 4 instruments (Violin, trumpet, accordion, Tambal or some substitute string instrument). Hearing smth similar to the music from the time of Anton Pann and other musical writers of our nation (as far as sources allow) from the time is very refreshing, good job going forward! (also during the 9th of may event at my school the class that had france used your version of "La Tourdion" for the dance showcase, you got a larger following than you may think you have)
As someone who loves music, I fracking hate learning about music theory because it always seems so confusing, but your epic talking videos can activate my hyperfixation brain bc they’re so awesome. Please keep doing them.
Be strong, Farya. The excellent work you’ve Been doing with those musicians, those singers, without mentionning the huge work for authenticity you’ve already proved to us that you’ve done is undeniably a sign of greatness in Music and composing. Don’t listen to those who are offensed by the truth. I sincerely believe the majority of your listeners are conscious about that authenticity but above that, will not question their faith in your amazing labor you did until now. Be strong, Farya. You are not a liar and all your brothers from all Over the world know that. From France to Turkey, from Greece to Iran, from slavs to indians. I never saw someone mastering the art of reuniting the old world, the legacies of the greatests civilizations of all Time, in one unique place where we all share the same love for your music, echo of History.
I discovered your channel roughly a year ago and what convinced me was simply that you gave all your sources. It is baffling to me that people on such a reading-based medium like the internet simply refuse to read sources, clarifications or footnotes... Thank you for your work, Terirem will forever be stuck in my ear.
19:00 To add to the willful misrepresentation part: It becomes both funnier and even more disheartening when the Irish Music everyone thinks they're cool with, is either not really irish at all or only barely so. People will get upset over someone saying certain cultural music is misrepresented, then be totally happy and ignorant with something else that is an utter misrepresentation of another culture's music. Little off the beaten path, but hell I'd say I know well what being grossly misrepresented feels like too. Hollywood especially seems to really like taking frequent piss breaks on us Arizonans..
As a person that has zero connection to the balkans/Middle East/other areas that you usually make music about, you’ve done a fantastic job at introducing me to these diverse and authentic styles of music, and you’ve caused me to look up some of these styles as well so I can listen to more of them. For this I thank you, and I’m sorry you have to put up with Reddit “”””intellectuals”””” constantly. Plus, the music you and your colleagues put out is just enjoyable to listen to in general
As an person of Irish and Polish descent, I think you absolutely nailed all the Irish and Polish songs. Can’t speak for everything else, but I think you’ve done a great thing here by bringing so much beautiful music from around the world together. I choose to believe you’re doing your best to be as authentic as possible, and you nail the accents if you ask me. But here’s my thing with the trolls… even *if* you do imperfectly represent historical music… isn’t the point for us to listen and be talking about it and appreciate it? We can’t jump into a time machine, all anyone can do is the best with the information we have available. From there, any honorable attempt should be treated with respect, and as a chance to share the world’s music and get to know each other and appreciate each other’s cultures more.
After finishing this, I admire what you do even more. Part of putting your face out there on the internet and dealing with original content creation is to have your work to be scrutinized for random people online who many times won't even show their faces. This is something very stressful and difficult to deal with, even though they're just trolls and can't come across reading basic sentences, it's draining. I still can't believe you spent all of this time without a Patreon and the active financial support of your subscribers. I'm glad you're finally getting one, can't wait for it 🎉 have a nice rest °v° 🌷
I am a Slav, I come from Poland and at the same time I participate in many battle reenactments. From the Prussian Empire, through the Duchy of Warsaw to the Roman Empire... and I will say it straight, I am not a historian to determine how faithful your music is to the original but I want you to know one thing. With your work/passion you allow us not to forget about the past centuries and eternal glory to you for that. And as for the rest of these porers... remember that most of them are a bunch of insignificant dogs who can only bark, because if it came time to bite... most of these champions would turn into mongrels (With respect to mongrels). May your voice resound for all time
Bless you and your Spartan principles, Farya! You deserve all the support, can't wait for your Patreon. By the way, as a Greek, I find your accent in my language quite phenomenal for a foreigner, huge respect for all the soul and work you've put in this channel.
I'm French, i have no idea what ancient music look around my place... I would never judge a stuff cause i've heard these stuff elsewhere from the begining (it would have been inaucurates movies or folk musics). When i see the documentation, i'm rather Impressed, original lyric, research from instruments, rythms and all to give an interpretation for old songs. Please continue. It so much useful.
A little bit of criticism is good for the soul. Keeps one sharp. But kudos to you for engaging with the absolute bottom of the barrel, left over sauerkraut, level of "criticism" as well. That takes a certain kind of mental resilience. I absolutely love your music. You're incredible. Every time I get a notification informing me that you've uploaded a video, it's a good day. And that includes these long "talks" you do, as well. Can't wait for the Patreon to launch. You've more than earned it. Much love!
Please do not have the haters get to you, you and your artist friends are all awesome creators and I enjoy all the songs that you create. I love Eastern Roman music the most, I think 'Justinian' is your magnum opus and if they ever made epic movie about him using Hollywood blockbuster budget they need to use your track as OST. Stay safe and continue to create as much as you can and of course as long as you enjoy it. Continue sharing the love.
Farya, I am deeply grateful for both your music and Epic Talking series. All the titanic work you've been doing and the higher standards you've set deserve great respect. As for the haters, some people just want to feel themselves less pathetic than they are by writing such "incriminating" comments and posts without any minimal brain's effort. But their self-satisfaction is illusory and temporary, and your positive contribution to humanity is eternal. Much love from Ukraine!
I'm a mexican cantor and I really love your work and your attitude towards art, your audience, and the responsabilities of picturing cultures musically. I admire the passion, the honesty, humility and dedication that you express in your talking videos. It'll be an honour if you one day you want to make your own interpretation of mexican folklorical music, because I know you will do it with the same passion and meticulousness. Saludos y bendiciones desde Ciudad de México.
You are a humble person and a well educated and hard working artist with care and respect to cultures. Love and respect from a Türk. Sağlıcakla kalın sayın Faraji.
Bravo to you. I love dearly modern muzică populară from Oltenia(în southern Romania) and while I noted that your renditions of Romanian folk are different, I never doubted their authenticity as I know that music evolves and Romanian music implemented many western and especially French influences. Keep going because your work is vital for those of us interested in authentic or as close as can be to historical music.
As an armenian who is really interested in clasic folk and traditional music you are always on point with everything you make and its amazing how accurate it is and how you just encapsulate all the happy and depressing emotions dont listen to these mentally and intellectually deficient trolls. Honestly you have a sayat nova thing going on where you make beautifully pieces of music in all different cultures and im so greatful for that its so nice to see someone especially an iranian who we have been so close to historically appreciate our music and show it to more people so thank you farya.
I discovered your channel because of your Orientalism Video and have watched/llistened to almost all of your Videos by now. Your musical work and your Essays are absolutely amazing. Much Love from Germany 🇩🇪
Waiting for you to explore the richness of Far Eastern (East and Southeast Asian) music, where the instruments and musical styles from the Medieval era are still largely intact to this day.
I've learned more from you in 6 months, than i have in half my lifetime. Nobody else is talking about this richest of material you've shown us. I'm irish, and you did a fantastic job on the old Irish videos. Your work is a credit to you. I've since began learning the Ney, and duduk (sorry 😊) Thanks to you. Keep up the great work, and don't waste any more of your valuable time on these fools. Thanks for everything, it's unique and deeply appreciated 👍 🇮🇪 🏴
Farya, I don’t know if you’ll read this, but i just want to say thank you for all the hard work you put into all of your amazing videos. Your epic symphony on Julius Caesar helped inspire me to write my own historical graphic novel about him (although I’m still in the planning stages lmao). Hell, I listen to that video almost daily😅 it’s so good. Don’t listen to those clowns. You’re one of the best musicians Ive ever seen on the internet. The amount of effort and soul you put into your music is honestly beautiful. I just wish Hollywood would just hire you already, dammit! Lmao Keep your head up, man. You’re the best❤️🙌🤧🔥
I’m someone who got introduced to your channel from the Orientalism video and have been bingeing the Epic Talks. Thank you for the videos, I am getting introduced to how much I’ve been missing out within a western musical context and it’s enriching!
Farya,.. you are simply the best at what you do. Far too many people can't handle a confident person, even if they justify their confidence explicitly, with evidence. Aloha nui kanaka! Mahalo 'oe.
My man Farya, if you took those keyboard crusaders and multiplied all that they have ever achieved a hundredfold, they would still not be near a fraction of the value you have provided to the world with your work. They are not fooling us, we see through their BS.
Been a fan of your channel for lil over a year now, as someone who only heard greek folk music at church events growing up, listening to your talking series/renditions has helped me get more in touch with the genre thanks bro
Finding this channel, and you in particular, was one of the most precious gifts from God, that I ever got. You're a chad, Farya, and we all know and love that. And we love you ❤
I follow you since years and enjoy your music tremendously. I want to be clear, that I'm no musician nor musicologist of any kind. I also want to make clear that I don't like all your works. The first is a fact and the second is a question of taste and what talks to me personally, it is in no way criticism of your high quality work. I feel I have to say, that especially the Epic Byzantine and Greek pieces of yours are breathtaking. I grew up in the Greek/ Turkish border region of the Dodecanese Islands and have since my youth been infatuated with Byzantine Chants and Secular music. As I am not a professional or scholar of music I can only rely on what it feels like when I hear your music: I close my eyes and I'm home. I see the cities resurrecting and the souls of the ancients rising in joy, that people like you make this kind of music accessible to this time. I deeply feel that you connect with the soul and spirit of times gone by and breath live back into them. Your works, are telling stories and stir emotions. Haters gonna hate. In my opinion you're great. Keep doing what you're doing. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Unfortunately, my friend, there's too many "academics" that indulge in self-pleasing. I believe, if I am not mistaken, when these types of people get together, we call it a "circle jerk." do not be silly. You have earned support. Your work is appreciated and many want more. Keep it coming.
Hi farya ! I just wanna put this small message to thank you again for your talk videos. I discovered your channel throught your roman content and got hooked to your art by your byzantine and even more recently by your iranian content. But I always prefer your talk videos (even if I'm more silent) because I just learn so much and can look into the references you cite. I even discovered the Skaldic Bard through your work ! Even if I don't always understand a lot of the musical terminology you use, you have legit made me more cultured about lusic and other sound scape. Don't let the haters keep you from doing what you are doing ! Your music is awesome and a place for cultication and learning ^^ Love from France ^^
the cinematic parallel between Farya obliterating the random comment dude & kendrick orbital-striking drake is not lost on me. 2024 is the year of spirit-bombing haters
I'm Romanian, have never been interested in our muzica populara until now, and I want to thank you for introducing me to Trei Parale. They sound magical! I came for the orientalist music video and stayed for what is clearly a vast respect for cultural authenticity and a soul-deep love for music as an inherent part of humanity. Meeting people who are passionate, knowledgeable and experienced in their subject is something that never fails to renew my joie de vivre, but it happens so rarely. I consider myself lucky to be able to witness that, people like you, through RUclips and documentaries, so thank you for all the videos! Those comments baffle me, to be quite honest, they seem intentionally obtuse.
If I'm not mistaken, he was born in Mazandaran and was brought up in southern France. He must have come to Québec at a young age because the way he carries himself, his accent and mannerisms, and his pride in the culture are distinctly Québécois. Well! Mayhap the trolls are onto something, and New France and its colonies were in fact Persian. You learn something new everyday when you fart in the aether and you find that books are excellent.
The absolute gall for the haters to misrepresent the very thing you do by ignoring the descriptions. Farya, ever since I discovered your channel, as a traditional music lover I have been immersed in the absolute goldmine of music you have shared, and learned so much. You and the musicians youve collabed with have served as massive creative inspirations for my own creative endeavors, and I wish to see more representation of cultures such as Iranian, Greek, etc., and I hope with ppl like you we can achieve such things
Man, I literally have nothing but praises for you. Screw haters because any song I listened I never felt that is unauthentic or trying to change traditions. I mostly listen your ,,controversial"😂 Byzantine music which is everything except fake or something, Belisarius is my favorite one and got me into listening to historical songs(I would have never got into that kind of music if it wasn't for you)and I listen to Serbian songs. As a Serb myself(not living in south Serbia but in central part)I never even got the thought that your music is somehow inaccurate (I only wish of you to continue making more songs from Serbia and Byzantine music😁) and your voice is fascinating how you sound native to any language you sing in. All in all, thank you once again for your hard work, dedication, sharing credit with others and being so down to Earth. Just keep going man, all the best😃
This guy is showcasing the traditional music from many cultures better than the locals. He is doing it with an unimaginable respect, yet people want to hate him because "knowitall". I fell in love with your music and the Byzantine music especially makes me travel to the past. Thank you!
No way people are actually hating on you, it should be opposite at this point considering the amount of people reuploading your music without giving credits. Much appreciation from here, would love to see some more Spartan music that is more vocal than the one 3 years ago 😊 Or some Danish
a beautiful watch my friend, thank you for always being so transparent and honest, ignore the haters, i love educating myself more via your channel!edit: pls reupload bu gun bize pir geldi soon its beautiful
Y'all are doing great! This channel's music sounds great and has supported my interests in ancient cultures. Because of this channel, I am most of the way through Lingua Latina per se Illustrata. Thank you for the motivation!
Regardless of whether this is completely perfectly historically accurate or not, I still enjoy your music. Your work speaks to me and you’ve introduced me to a world I didn’t know anything about. For that, you get my thanks 🙏
I got interested in microtonality and music in general from your content to the point where i actually bought a bağlama, keep up the good work and dont believe in the haters, from 🇧🇬🇹🇷(Thrace) and 🇵🇰.
I won't watch the whole video because I don't much care for fights on the internet, but I thought parts of your Orientalism video were pretty great. Regardless of this mess, nobody gets everything right all the time, but that doesn't make them hypocrites(though the internet wishes it did), it just makes them human. You clearly do what you love and do it as well as you can. Who would reproach someone for that? Your video actually inspired me to get more into some different kinds of music, rather than avoid working with them, so I found its points about Orientalism, perhaps ironically, the opposite of disparaging. I look forward to what you do next.
Hey Farya, You're doing the right thing and you've been incredibly fair. You don't throw other artists under the bus. You give credit where credit is due. You cite your sources.
It IS a take(the take you're describing others having), and contains words...
Not a great one, and not good ones, but what can you expect...🤷😅

People are so stuck up and "knowitall" in so many situations. You have not only opened my eyes to Ethnomusicology and sparked a massive interest in music theory in me, but also you have helped me embrace the Lebanese side of my heritage, which I used to ignore and push down. Your insight and interest in historically informed music from the Middle East has heavily helped me accept that I am Lebanese. Thank you Farya, by far one of my favorite youtubers ever.

As a Greek dude when I heard the "thick Persian accent" on the Epirote part of the Janissary symphony I almost had an aneurysm, what do these people think we sound like?
They think you sound Persian :P
In all fairness, accent detection is a questionable skill too, and a lot of biases come into play.
Then the next video they click on is a French one, and they say "lol love your thick Greek accent when you sing French."
Depending of which of my videos these people have found first, they assume my ethnicity, and end up perceiving an accent that matches that ethnicity.
@@faryafarajithat's why I purposely choose to hear you with a thick québécois accent.

Evil Farya: makes Russian folk song that uses harp
That'll be nice tho
P.S.: Big respect for mentioning trei parale, they're one of the few that dive into the field of older Romanian music and they're honestly kind of underrated, even in Romania.
Keep up the good work brother!
Farya, as a Serb, I really enjoy your representation of Serbian music. Great job, thanks!

To add to the willful misrepresentation part: It becomes both funnier and even more disheartening when the Irish Music everyone thinks they're cool with, is either not really irish at all or only barely so.
Thank you for setting standards for yourself even when you might be better off not doing so, simply because it's the right thing.

I’m someone who got introduced to your channel from the Orientalism video and have been bingeing the Epic Talks. Thank you for the videos, I am getting introduced to how much I’ve been missing out within a western musical context and it’s enriching!

Even if I don't always understand a lot of the musical terminology you use, you have legit made me more cultured about lusic and other sound scape. Don't let the haters keep you from doing what you are doing ! Your music is awesome and a place for cultication and learning ^^
Love from France ^^
Out of thousands of langauges Farya used....today HE SPOKE FACTS
the cinematic parallel between Farya obliterating the random comment dude & kendrick orbital-striking drake is not lost on me.
“Thick Persian accent”
Weren’t you raised in Quebec?
That person straight up attacking your lineage.
@@lomionaredhelion Quebec is the Persia of America, confirmed
The absolute gall for the haters to misrepresent the very thing you do by ignoring the descriptions. Farya, ever since I discovered your channel, as a traditional music lover I have been immersed in the absolute goldmine of music you have shared, and learned so much. You and the musicians youve collabed with have served as massive creative inspirations for my own creative endeavors, and I wish to see more representation of cultures such as Iranian, Greek, etc., and I hope with ppl like you we can achieve such things
An ancient Romanian proverb says that your value is based on the number of haters you have on Reddit! Congrats, and God bless you, bro!
We love and support your music! Thank you for sharing all these beautiful sounds together!
Much appreciation from here, would love to see some more Spartan music that is more vocal than the one 3 years ago 😊
Or some Danish
a beautiful watch my friend, thank you for always being so transparent and honest, ignore the haters, i love educating myself more via your channel!edit: pls reupload bu gun bize pir geldi soon
its beautiful
Y'all are doing great! This channel's music sounds great and has supported my interests in ancient cultures. Because of this channel, I am most of the way through Lingua Latina per se Illustrata. Thank you for the motivation!
Фарья, спасибо Вам большое за всё Ваше творчество! Ваша музыка прекрасна!
Your diligence is truly admirable, and your patience in responding to these people is far beyond what I'd be capable of.
Some people are just truly hopeless, keep up the good work Mr. Epic Talker
Regardless of whether this is completely perfectly historically accurate or not, I still enjoy your music. Your work speaks to me and you’ve introduced me to a world I didn’t know anything about. For that, you get my thanks 🙏
Great video, glad you're keeping the haters at bay. I'm french, and your videos on France are simply some of the highest quality there is.
I got interested in microtonality and music in general from your content to the point where i actually bought a bağlama, keep up the good work and dont believe in the haters, from 🇧🇬🇹🇷(Thrace) and 🇵🇰.
Hope you don't take these serious, dunno much about other cultures' music but for Turkish ones you have my vote of confidence.
I look forward to what you do next.
wait... he HAS haters?!
Everyone who becomes popular has haters
The absolute arsenal behind you in almost every frame. Please, just don't get so angry to pull one off the wall. XD
Hey Farya,
You're doing the right thing and you've been incredibly fair. You don't throw other artists under the bus. You give credit where credit is due. You cite your sources. You're informing the public. Keep doing what you're doing, you're a contender for my new favourite breakout RUclipsr. It's between you, Stefan Milo, Moon Channel, and Miniminuteman. Each of you are engaging in honest discourse.
Big fan and fellow Canadian.
Just create a patreon already, you've earned it, I'd support you
Yes, I just checked his bio for one after I commented. I really like his music history videos.
Dear mister Faraji you have the best music today i was walking on the street while lisening to your roman music and an aquila flew above me. Your songs can literaly summon Jupiter.
Farya you are a great artist and you're a value to this country. Don't let haters discourage you from doing your amazing art. So many commenters hated me because of my place of origin under your videos, but I don't care. Don't give them the attention they desperately seek. Keep up the good work!
Farya responding to the haters with literal receipts, I love it.
For whatever it's worth, I can confirm that your Pontian parts sound distinctly Pontian.
I literally learned of this channel from reddit, and I've been loving it ever since. There is no such thing as bad publicity, i guess
Just recently stumbled upon your work and am glad i have.
Here hoping for more people to find this channel to enjoy it.
HOLY SHIT YOU'RE FINALLY OPENING A PATREON!!! I WILL SUPPORT I WILL DO THIS GLADLY
Most people on Reddit have no idea what they’re talking about. All you have to do is be super negative and cynical and people will think you are knowledgeable.
The majority of reddit is just "erm actually 🤓☝️" and they act like they are superior to you.
Also its Reddit, the land of Misinformed, Self ageandizing Nerds
