i've been waiting for
for a very long time today we are adding
the scion tc steering wheel and
air bag now this is from the second gen
scion tc with the d-shaped steering
wheel so
let's get to it
[Music]
before we do anything anything at all
we need to disconnect the battery for
about 45 minutes however long you feel comfortable you
have to take extreme
precaution when doing something like
this and take your time
[Music]
so this is the steering wheel that i
found if you watched my last video at
the junkyard from a 2012
scion tc okay so i was fortunate
enough to get a
scion tc air bag i actually got this one
on ebay and i have to stress to you
enough
if you're gonna buy an airbag make sure you look
up the part number or the actual vin number
of the vehicle that it came off to make
sure that it's not a recall
so i looked that up i made sure there
was no recalls
this one came with the
pins on here it also came with the
ground
wire so i was fortunate enough to
actually get that
because when we install this into the xb
i won't have to create a ground wire
with a female
plug on it since it's already there from
the tc and i wanted to make sure that i
did not have to
change out the igniter so since this
comes off of a
scion tc and a scion brand
these pins in the back are actually the
same
as the pins that are in the airbag
that's in my xb now
and then these also are just the same
i've actually gotten a clock spring this
is the one that i was
thinking about using from the 2006.5
which i'm not going to be able to and i
compared
the pins here so if you look at that
they are actually the same there's no
difference
and if you look at the black pins here
those are the same as well we won't have
to do anything to the igniter of
switching
this one for that one or vice versa
so what i'm going to do is i'm actually
connect this to the scion xb
ground wire and then i'm going to use
the connectors from the clock spring to
connect into here
and that should be
good to go also when you do this make
sure that your wheel
is aligned straight all right so now
that we've waited more than 30 minutes
for
the actual battery and electrical inside
the car to discharge
we're going to remove the airbag from
the xb
so the easiest way to do that is there
are
two t30 screws
right here on the side that will unbolt
and that will let us remove the airbag
and disconnect the connector so what
you're going to have to use to take off
those screws on the side of the air bag
is a torx bit and that's going to be a
t30 just like this one here
so they're not going to come all the way
out you just loosen them up
so now what i'm going to do is i'm going
to remove the air
bag and as you can see right here we
have
a clip here and a clip here so one of
the clips you can remove
and that's going to be the ground
just like that this is what we're gonna
lengthen
and connect to the scion tc airbag
we'll disconnect these here
[Music]
now that we have the air bag side by
side this is the xb
this is the scion tc and as you
notice they're on opposite sides
but these are exactly the same
if i grab the connectors that i got from
the scion tc bag
i'm able to connect them
with no problem
just like that
and again they're just on opposite sides
and if i grab the clock spring that i
got from the 06.5
xb i'm able to
connect them without a problem
like that
and we'll reuse this for the tc steering
wheel
all right so now that we have the nut
taken off now it's time to
jiggle it around and take the wheel off
now that we've gotten the scion xp
steering wheel off we're going to add
the tc steering wheel
and the nut to tighten it is about 37
foot-pounds of torque
[Music]
right all right so now what we're going
to do is we're going to take the
negative wire
off of the tc airbag and the negative
wire off of the xb air bag and connect
them
to make it longer that way we're able to
connect
back into the clock spring of the scion
[Music]
now that we got the scion tc back
installed everything seems to fit
perfectly
now we're going to connect the battery
and turn on the car
and i stress to you to be very very
careful
when doing this
all right so now that we've connected
the battery and we've checked the horn
the last thing to do is try the on
position
and then turn on the car
so i'm going to try the on position from
this side of the car
we're now gonna try to turn it on fingers crossed
