- Happy Fretless Friday everyone! Can't believe its been 10 Fridays since we started this series! I think I've improved a good bit, and you guys seem to really be enjoying the series, so here's to 10 more fabulous Fridays with no fretting to be found! This song might be my favorite one I've recorded on the fretless; I think the fact that I altered the song a bit to fit the banjo better helped, so I'll be playing around with that more in the future.
By the way, I did NOT kick Billina at 5:55- she was pecking my boot and I nudged her away while she continued viscously attacking it haha.
The song I played was Hangman's reel, and I'm in G tuning.

The outfit is Phoebulous ..
Thats a 'Goin to Town on Saturday" outfit
Saturday night Grange Hall square dance to be specific!
@@gwiyomikim5988 I like it, and congrats to her Grandmother.. a nice jacket
The look?
Appalachian Fox Hunt.
Enjoy, Mike
Nailed it!!!
No fretting allowed on Fridays! Thank-you Phoebe!
Your outfit is USA country norm for folks
that love life and bringing joy to others such as you do Phebe!!! Thank you and GOD BLESS!!!
PEACE, ROBERT!!!
With all the horror going on in the world right now you are a blessing of smiles and happiness, thank you❤️
I’d call the outfit “Rural Realtor”. Amazing playing ❤
The outfit definitely lights up the world as does the person wearing it! Phoebe is a pickin... and I am a grinnin! ❤️
The cote is dope!
Sounds great. I call it "going to the market to buy some spinach" outfit. Grandma's got some sewing chops if she's able to make a jacket. Most grandma's just knit socks.
...and the stress just melts away.
This reminded me of the late great David Lindley. Well played and thanks for all the music Phoebe 🐔🐣🐤🐥
This the best fretless Friday ever ! The chickens , the new coat and the boot cup all great !
Love your Sunday go to meeting suit Phoebe. One slight change though. Instead of jeans, wear your bib overalls. Enjoy your weekend!😊
Thank you so much for the thought, about not fretting on a Friday. It is now a Saturday, and I feel like it was wasted, until now. Now I will live in the moment and enjoy Sunday tomorrow. Heck, two "Fridays" in a row without work, what am I worried about... making it matter? Nah. Just enjoy the time off. Thank you for the reminder to not fret. This is my 2nd video upon after clicking onto your video.
👏👏👏👏👏 The outfit suits you. Very nice playing. Break a leg in the contest.
Your outfit "The Farmer Daughter"Is a mighty fine outfit. You go girl.
Fabulous Phoebulous Fretless Friday #10! 🎉 Awesome! A touch flat when You went up the fingerboard, but otherwise, spot on! Your sense of time and rhythm is solid, now. You are crushing it! Thanks for the tunes, Phoebe! ❤🪕❤️🪕❤️🪕❤️
Phoebe whenever you start singing along, Molly Tuttle look out. Hammer down girl, thanks for the "start your weekend" now. God bless you for all you do for others
Love the drink in the boot ' ...Good Luck in the Festival ' have fun.
Sounding good love the out fit all very good.
That was really nice. I'd say the outfit is Country Chic, or Eclectic California Country.
Thanks.
Excellent playing AND excellent style!👌
Nailed it. Especially the high notes. The look on your face was, "that's right, I hit em." Nice!
A thought on your attire: Phoebe Sanders, goes to Washington !
You are so delightful. A real breath of fresh air! 🤠
She really is !
Hey that’s really great Pickens you sound better and better each time keep up the good work, young lady don’t drink too many of them brews
It's a Tuesday-Go-To-Votin' suit
I started watching again after a few months break, but the first 2 I clicked were Fretless Fridays so that's all I'm getting recommended :D
This outfit is a girl who gets her banjo and blows our minds with a flock of chickens!
I love your music and your conversations.
You are a pleasure to listen to, whether you are playing or talking.
Thank you! I have enjoyed this banjo tune.
Love the zone of peace and joy you create, Phoebe! Would say chic London market is the look
Very good on the fretless. Granny's gift , name for the outfit
Great Fretless Friday, Doc! I would call your outfit "Dr. Phoebe goes to town making banjo house calls!"
I love the drink in the boot
Imagine a man in a bar
And the bar tender offers one to him😅😅😅
Love those chickens
Love Jesus and keep playing
Here is an old reel you might know.. it kinda goes with the tune
I got a pig home in the pen, corn to feed him on..
All I want is a pretty little gal to feed him while Im gone,,, To feed him while Im gone
I think it should be called the fretless improvers outfit. That was really good!
It's farm girl Phoebe! The red jacket looks great on you, and the hat is . . . unique! I was going to suggest that you name one of your banjos Billina, but you already have a chicken by that name, so I guess you'll have to choose another name that starts with B. I'd say you're really improving on the fretless banjo. Thanks for brightening my Friday with your playing! Banjo on!
Can’t wait to hear how the Festival goes! I’m in NC so I doubt I’ll make it😂
Beautiful! Your intonation is really improving and you are much more relaxed...I sometimes grab a harmonica and jam with you. Keep it comin'! ❤
Love fretless Friday.
I’m here to listen every Friday. Good job 👍
Thanks again..tell the animals hey
I love fretless Friday
The look: Banjo Beautiful
A beautiful talented farmer or a banjo talent at her best. ( ❤❤❤ on your attire)
That’s a banjo contest-winning jacket! Good luck on Sunday!
Very well done!
Another foot-tapping Friday! Enjoy the festival this weekend!
put a trice tag on that hat and call yourself a newage Mini Pearl
That's the Luffy outfit
Love that song (3:55 is my favourite part) and your outfits are always on point, just finished watching 9 and I love that lemon shirt! I hope this series goes a long way, we’re already at 10! ❤❤❤
I love the chickens
blown away by the unique sound of it, so great!!
I'm a guitarist, but I'm afraid my brain would short out if I used an open tuning. 🤯
You are definitely getting better on that fretless . . . Thanks for sharing.🙂
Love the hat you look perfect
You are great !
Love the cold broot and the fit!! (and the music ofc)
The playing is great and I'd call the outfit timeless Americana, right down to the Popeye shirt. It blends in very well with the surrounding colors like the whole scene was meticulously planned out. You can add designer to your obvious skills in marketing ("Fretless Friday," "Do Not Fret," "Daily Dose of Banjo," etc.)
Fantastic! You’ll do great at the festival!
Country Eclectic!
❤ Perth West Australia
Great upload! Good luck at the competition!🐔
I just discovered you today ... Amazing
Combines 2 of my fave musical sounds
Slide and banjo 👍👍🪕🪕
"Warm out today. Warm yesterday. Even warmer today." Oh, beautiful for fretlessness. That. Sounds. So. Great. Thank you, Space Cowgirl. These boots were made for caffeine. Stay silly!
awesome as always!! i'll put some practice in on my fretless bass just for you :)
The access to all the seminotes in the absence of frets always ups the expressiveness the instrument can provide and i really dig your style using it.
You are absolutely amazing. The sounds is awesome! I’m so grateful for you! Congratulations on 10 fret less Fridays!
Phoebe that is a cool outfit! Got my foot tapping again. The slides are developing. They say that practice makes perfect and I believe it to be true. :)
I would call your outfit country chic. Thanks for sharing your talent
I just looked up the Topanga Folk Festival's web page and the thing that stood out most was the "Instrument Petting Zoo." 😆
Don’t know if it’s the 10 Fridays sans frets, the awesome handmade jacket, or the cold brew, but that was a heck of a nice performance!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wonderful, as always!
I have an idea... Chicken Tenders... Neighbors, coming together for the purpose of tending hens, community style... For those not capable (nor prepared) for full time hen keeping...
You look amazing! The boot is also fabulous. Are you gonna do a family video one time? Or a show of the garden and your home, maybe this is to personal (haha). I love your videos, your soul is bright and inspiring. And your music warms the heart! Thank you, for being you!
I play that same song on my mountain dulcimer. Love on the banjo!
id take that to the competition.
Your smile is so infectious. Always love it when you start the vid with it and then slide into some music to finish the job lifting spirits. Keep spreading joy Pheobe! 💛 Considering all the OZ refrences im shocked you havent given us a rendition of over the rainbow from your joyful little land beyond it. I hate to ask but would a farmgirl shine some seven colored light on this dim button boy with a Banjo Cover of that song sometime? Would make my day and many after.
Positively Pentecostal
I love your sunny personality and fine pickin'.
I don't know much about the banjo, but I do know I am a fanjo.
"This banjo surrounds hate and forces it to surrender."
Pete Seeger
"The thing about the banjo is when you first hear it, it strikes many people as what's that? There's something very compelling about it to certain people."
Steve Martin
"I feel sorry for little babies... When a little baby is born into this cold world, he's confused! He's frightened! He needs something to cheer him up... The way I see it, as soon as a baby is born, he should be issued a banjo!"
Charles M. Schulz
"When you want genuine music -- music that will come right home to you like a bad quarter, suffuse your system like strychnine whisky, go right through you like Brandreth's pills, ramify your whole constitution like the measles, and break out on your hide like the pin-feather pimples on a picked goose, -- when you want all this, just smash your piano, and invoke the glory-beaming banjo!"
Mark Twain
"And then Earl Scruggs comes along and transforms the banjo into a virtuosic modern instrument. For the first time, the Southern banjo style becomes the identity of the banjo, and everything from before is wiped off of people's consciousness by the power of that explosion.
I first heard the banjo on the Beverly Hillbillies, and from then on I was banjo-conscious. But I didn't actually get one until my grandfather gave me one, almost by mistake. He knew I was playing a little bit of guitar. He saw a banjo at a flea market and bought it. I took it home with me and just never put it down. I was fifteen.
Being from New York, I wonder why am I inspired by bluegrass and Earl Scruggs? But when I look at the whole history of the banjo, I feel really good about it, including the Earl Scruggs part.
There are a lot of chapters to the banjo's history. Part of it are the roots in Africa, where it's a more primitive instrument. Then it comes to the United States where it morphs into the slave music that they created here, which was very African in origin.
I think it is very ironic that most people think that the banjo is a southern white instrument. It came from Africa and even for the first years that white people played banjo they would put on blackface."
Bela Fleck
"To learn the history of the banjo is to recover the actual history of America In order to understand the history of the banjo, and the history of bluegrass music, we need to move beyond the narrative we've inherited, beyond generalizations that bluegrass is mostly derived from a Scotch-Irish tradition with influences from Africa. It is actually a complex Creole music that comes from multiple cultures."
Rhiannon Giddens
"My first banjo? My mother's sister, my aunt, lived about a mile from where we did, and she raised some hogs. And she had - her - the hog - the mother - they called the mother a sow - of a hog. And she had some pigs. Well, the pigs were real pretty, and I was going to high school and I was taking agriculture in school. And I sort of got a notion that I'd like to do that, raise some hogs. And so my aunt had this old banjo, and my mother told me, said, which do you want, the pig or a banjo? And each one of them's $5 each. I said, I'll just take the banjo.
My mother played a little bit of the old time clawhammer. She tuned the banjo up and picked one tune for me, and it just become natural to me. When she picked it, I just started and picked it, too.

Marvelous quotations. Thank you.
Now I want a boot cup.
I would call that outfit "fancy hobo chique".
I enjoy hearing your fretless Friday tunes before the sabbath starts,
Would you consider doing more songs of reverence to our loving Messiah .
Blessings in Yeshua/Jesus.
Getting better all the time!
Honestly I think it’s a star banjo player outfit. Keep at it you’ll be playing at the Ole Grand Oprah house one day.
a ding, a dinga dinga ding ga, a ding, a dinga, dinga, ding ga and so forth
I'd love to hear you sing again with your friend Lily! 😉
On Sunday? If I wasn’t working I’d be there, also if I wasn’t in England I’d be there. Wish we had a banjo festival near me. I’m the only clawhammer banjo player I know round these parts. Need to meet like minded players to learn from. Fretless Fridays with snazzy outfits outdone by the snazzy playing 😊
Best FF yet, Phoebe. Great jacket and the hat looked like you just made it from the straw bale behind you. I can hear it all the way to England, so the mic must be a pretty good one. Your fretless playing gets better every week. Is that what they call boot liquor, by the way? AlYourPal from England.
Good luck at Topanga. Friend of mine, Gary Dostalek, won the banjo contest decades ago.
I call it cute as a button. Love that hate. Thank you for sharing Frail on!
Cheers to 10th fretless and chickenful anniversary! Thank you and please do keep going ..😍💗
Lesson 1 - why plectrum players should play fretless sometimes. Everything's shiny! Not to fret!
I like the hat. I’ve just got a new Stetson straw hat. It’s wonderful. Allows the air to get to my head. I’m used to Blythe, Ca. Where it’s very dry, but I live in Missouri. Thanks for communication. When I find more for you, I’ll write. Appreciate your reach out!
Love your work. Keep learning! Violin can’t be that hard, they taught it to 4th graders in the 1960’s. You’re not lame, I see it!
You go on.
Love your music.
Congratulations to your parents!
I’d love to meet them.
Just got a new trombone mouthpiece, the one I used to sing. 6 1/2al..
Two Bones downstairs. You’ve inspired me to play again. Thank you!
I think you’d like lower brass, you have the lips. Find a 12c mouthpiece, and start from there.
You are working towards a wonderful career.
😊
I’ll talk,
Thanks you so much!
You’re wonderful!
Ya man , i mean p-girl, that and your playing, justs holds me in fun, hope it doenst hurt your fingers-muah
Excellent job on Hangman's Reel! One of my favorite tunes. I do it on both fiddle (cross-tuned) and banjo.
😊so brave doing those notes up the neck, but you nailed it, well done
Spot on! I’d use that instrument at your festival. You are killing it!
