Quick note: this was filmed a couple days after she split with Pete and Mac Miller's death still fresh on her mind. She was definitely down in the dumps for this performance, so this isn't even her best work!!
Yes.. wicked is her safe space since she was a child, if you scroll down her official youtube channel, the first video ever, is she with 14 years in her room with the wicked poster on her wall!!💚
the fact that she’s smiling and entertaining on that day, after she broke off her engagement with Pete Davidson hours before the show, is already a proof that she’s a complete entertainer and an artist.
@AshTheOne Better technique, quality of sound and attention to real storytelling. None of those fake, overused so-called R&B roulades. They are inauthentic and therefore sound cheap. If you're Aretha Franklin and discovering these cadenzas that's one thing. What ALL pop stars, not just Grande do these days, is endless pointless cadenzas that don't enhance either the song or their performance. Grande is enormously talented, with a great voice. Its wasted on pop, even though it's making her tons of dough. I'm sure if I had a voice like hers I'd do the same I would go for the money, but I'd miss the real music.
This performance makes me feel so happy and in peace she's so happy🥺🌈 she is the best singer in history. After everything she's been through she's still standing teaching us love and giving us hope. Slaying every performance. She's the queen💜👑
excellent reaction. just announced her getting Glinda movie role. and her presentation IMO hit emotional feel of a stage play show and stayed true to the song and the show. at this time in her career, this is ideal a role to get the chance to play
I am by no means a Ariana stan. But I have been so consistently impressed with her voice as of late That was a truly impressive performance. I also really appreciated your critique. They're things that I wouldn't have noticed, but at the same you're totally right that it takes you out of it a little.
She started off with broadway and she does this show every year because she says she wants to never forget her true self and she loves that song shes said and also she said in a interview she wishes she wouldve continued and stayed with broadway and not turned to singing like she is. She would be amazing in broadway if she did do some again
I never saw myself having a marathon on a vocal coach's reactions but Tara just made me do it!!! Her authenticity and critique are captivating! Easiest subscription I had!
When I saw Ariana singing this, I cried immediately, LOL. Probably because we’re both musical theatre nerds, and this role was everyone’s dream role at the time (and still) 😭
Hi Tara, you look amazing as always. Can you please stop and sing more to explain your points like you did in your older videos, that was always my favorite part.
I completely agree. She has an amazing voice but I can hardly ever understand what she’s saying. I’m surprised this has never been brought up before (that I’ve seen)
Yay! I’m glad you reacted to this. I think this may be my favorite of her live performances, even with those little flaws! Like you, I felt like she blended Broadway and pop perfectly! Not over the top at all. And I agree, with proper training I think she could be in a broadway show. Great video!
She’s actually amazing at Broadway, she started young and did 13. She did a small, intimate show with the director/composer of 13 a few years ago that shows her broadway voice REALLY well. I wish she’d do more powerhouse vocals and I’m not sure why she’s doing what she is, but 🤷🏻♀️
You should watch her perform The Wizard and I when she was a little girl! Her technique and resonance was INSANE and she holds the note like it’s nothing!
Ariana has an incredible voice but I really struggle with her enouncation, I never understand at least 80% of the words of a song that she's singing. Maybe it's just my hearing... I dunno
Same here! With proper training she should pronounce her words better. Don't know why this isn't being pointed out. She barely moves her lips on some of the words and that's why she's not understandable. Maybe ok'ish in pop but not Broadway. No point of singing a song and you can't understand the words! The song IS the story! Look at Lady Gaga, she pronounces her words. She has musical theater training.
she actually started out on broadway! she was in 13 when she was younger:) and i'm so glad you took this recommendation to review ari singing this! tyyyy and i would *love* to see you reviewing superfruit singing defying gravity
Ariana is a theater kid and started her musical career on broadway. U can find tons of vids of her on youtube of her singing tons of broadway songs over the years :D
if you haven't seen PTX cover What is This Feeling at the same event, you really should. Not only is it a really great way to see them live but Kirtin and Mitch are incredible as Glinda and Elphaba and Scott and Matt have some interesting backing vocals :D
yes thank you for finally reacting to this!! and when ariana was in a broadway play before she blew up and became a huge pop star. Its really cool, she was amazing!!
Hi Tara! I would love to hear your take on any Celtic Women song (e.g. Ave Maria and Amazing Grace). Their voices are so clear and hollow sounding and I would love to hear a breakdown of how one creates that kind of sound with their voice and apply that to my own singing.
Wow, I learned something new today. I didn’t think this was that hard of a song until Tara said it was. This is my favorite song and I’m always singing it...in the shower, when I’m bored, just for fun, etc. Also Ariana killed it as always!
Ariana actually started on Broadway when she was a kid and shes a huge broadway fanatic... its funny how people wouldn't even think that now because of how much her music and image has changed
Hi Tara!! Love your channel so much 💕💕 Did you know Ariana did broadway when she was younger? She was in the musical 13 in 2008 I believe. I’ve always known of her love for musical theatre and broadway, so it’s interesting to watch videos where people react to that unique side of her voice for the first time. When I first started following her and listening to her music, I would actually listen for the theatre/broadway vibes haha. You should check out the original cast album. There are also videos on RUclips I’m sure
I’m very simple, I see Tara and Ari I click. Thank you so much for reacting to this! Maybe I’m asking too much but could you also check out her old performance of Wizard and I ? She did it like 10 years ago and I really wish somebody could point out the things she has improved since then and what she could still work on. For example, in her old performance she held the last note all the way till the music ended with a gorgeous vibrato and resonance. Thank you so much !
Love your reactions soooooo much! Can you watch Haley Reinhart and Post modern jukebox's version of Creep by radio head. They put such a cool twist on it with a vintage style, and Haley's voice is so different than anyone you've ever heard I guarantee it!
This was such a great reaction and the advice about the intentionally breathing is amazing! Ariana actually got her started her career on Broadway in the musical 13! Please do a reaction to Little Mix, especially their cover of Love on the Brain! I would really love to hear your thoughts on them!
I am so happy that there is finally a youtube vocal coach who actually knows what she is talking about AND giving great advice for singers out there. Loved ALL your videos so far. Could you please do a reaction to Gravity by Clark Beckham ft. Yebba? Or Evergreen by Yebba. You already did a reaction to My Mind by Yebba and I loved your thoughts on that one. Love from Germany 🙌🏻
Hej :-), I already answered a similiar comment above. There are actually techniques like Estil that teach you to slightly raise the chin when belting higher to allow the larynx to rise. I - as a voice teacher- would generally not encourage it...the important thing is though: if you're not hurting yourself or your voice and you can do the same WITHOUT ...there's no harm in it. I think it's become a bit of a habit for her that she certainly could do without (esp. in the long run...'neck tension') but so far she seems fine - so I wouldn't knock it too much :-).
Jessie Irvine its only a bad thing if ur a beginner singer who doesn’t know how to properly alleviate tension, as u hear she does it and still maintains a beautiful tone
Please react to Citizen Queen's evolution of girl groups and no tears left to cry. They are a new all-female acapella group arranged by Scott Hoying and Ben Bram, who arranges pentatonix's songs too
If you would like to hear more of Ariana Grande sing in a musical theatre style, you should DEFINITELY react to her and Frankie Grande singing “Suddenly Frankie” (Suddenly Seymour) at the Fresno Parade! She’s sounds fantastic, and I personally wish she would use that sound WAY more often!
I love your comment on pre-breath preparing for two-three breaths before the long note. I do okay with sustaining long notes but I still find myself struggling from time to time. I am going to take that with me when I sing next time! Thanks!
People are saying they can't understand her but this is actually the only time I've understood her. I was so glad she sang this properly rather than in her usual style. I always get so happy seeing Alex Lacamoire playing piano in this as well.
I highly recommend listening to Daneliya Tuleshova singing Seize the time. She does have a live performance of it and for being so young, she has such a mature voice! Listen to it either in your down time or for a video but either way, I think you would really like it.
Ariana grew up MT cause her mum is a huge BW fan and she used to sing straight MT runs but with this concert she wanted to put a pop spin on it which was very cool.
Ok so you need to react to not only the Pentatonix performance of What Is This Feeling also from this special but also Citizen Queen’s evolution of girl groups video (which gained a million views pretty quickly). They’re Scott Hoying’s pet project and very much worth your time
She has a very natural voice with a very nice blend of head and chest voices. I do not necessarily like it when she tips her chin up and back. She likes to hold notes to their full value. Would love to see a reaction to Beau Dermott's Britain's Got Talent 2016 audition. She's only 12 in the video and sings Defying Gravity from Wicked... fits perfectly with this reaction. :D
She's so great!! Totally agree with you!!!!!!! You should really watch her carpool karaoke with james Corden bc she does some broadway covers at the end!

Ariana got her start on Broadway! She's a musical theater nerd!
She was on Broadway way before this
Allyse Noelle she was on 13!
She started on Broadway, and now she's the most famous singer 😍
Jolika Janssen one of the most...
Allyse Noelle she wasn’t on broadway in the clip?
Ariana actually started on Broadway! In 2008, she was in the Broadway musical 13!
Jesus, every time I hear her sing this I get goosebumps and teary eyed, never gets old 😭

her engagement was called off just hours before this.
Oh yeah, how terrible 😭❤
Which engagement?
@@stefanipetkova6743 to Pete
Why?
@@jimmyteriyaki9783 the passing of her ex, Mac Miller, was probably the reason
the fact that she’s smiling and entertaining on that day, after she broke off her engagement with Pete Davidson hours before the show, is already a proof that she’s a complete entertainer and an artist.
I think Ariana sounds better when she uses her “broadway voice” than her “pop voice” because it sounds classier
Sarah Dake agree
Yes indeed
Sarah Dake she sings better in this repertoire. Far more healthily, but she’d do even better if she dropped her chin.
@AshTheOne Better technique, quality of sound and attention to real storytelling. None of those fake, overused so-called R&B roulades. They are inauthentic and therefore sound cheap. there’s a video of her singing this exact same song when she was around 14! and she managed to hold the last note, it was around 14 seconds long!

Please react to Ariana Grande and James Corden singing the soundtrack to "Titanic" on the Late Late Show!!
Hi Tara, you look amazing as always. Can you please stop and sing more to explain your points like you did in your older videos, that was always my favorite part.
I wish her annunciation was a lot better. For someone who doesn't know this song I didn't really understand most of what she was singing.
That's really hard when you're singing high notes (she does a lot)
It’s a stylistic choice
You mean enunciation?
Angel T it’s actually getting really better if u listen to her songs
I completely agree. She has an amazing voice but I can hardly ever understand what she’s saying. I’m surprised this has never been brought up before (that I’ve seen)

Ariana has an incredible voice but I really struggle with her enouncation, I never understand at least 80% of the words of a song that she's singing. Maybe it's just my hearing... I dunno
No. This is my constant criticism of her. And with musical theatre you need to hear those words. She needs to work on it for sure.
I understand her 😁
She CAN do it and she has, it's more of a choice of style and I actually prefer her that way.

React to her singing “what is this feeling” and “suddenly Seymour” i love your channel
Imagine Lady Gaga as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda in a Wicked movie... Their chemistry is already there so I think it would work perfectly.
I'm not totally mad at that!
Ariana loves Broadway. It's like her favorite thing. She started in a play called 13!!!
Love your reactions!
Please please please react to Jeremy Jordan doing Celine Dion, he absolutely kills it. And his performances is hilarious!
