      Keep the well lubed up and they will last a long time ( AND used them now and again!)

      @@BritannicaRestorations Too be fair I actually agree to some degree. But when they go wrong through lack of maintenance they're a pain and replacement parts (genuine) aren't cheap. Working on a set today and I need to come back to it with some more parts at a later date. Haven't got that lovely grease you use mind so it was Würth spray Copper Grease today.

    I worked with someone who worked on early LR's and he complained that they were hard to work on. Self-tapping screws would scrape the hands in the transmission well when doing a clutch job. It looks ,to me, like LR tried to accomodate field repairs with engine out - or in.
    He fared better with mechanical pencils.

    I enjoy your videos and knowledge of Land Rovers. This is a little off topic, I'm restoring a 74 3Series. The main upgrade is the R380 with short bell housing to offer a true updated 5 speed. I'll mate this with the existing Series transfer box. Main question is linkage modes for transfer case since it sits 4" back from original location. Drive shafts shall have to be modified as well.

    On a RHD 300TDi does the wiring loom come down RHS of gearbox as seen here?
    Loom on mine is on LHS (UK passenger side) and passes round back of selector housing to connect to handbrake & DiffLock switch next to Hi/Lo since new chassis fitted & as a result wiring is tight as just long enough to reach switch.
    Mine also has wires in loom for a hi/Lo switch but doesn’t seem to have the switch fitted. Is this common, seems strange to see connectors dangling?

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  3 года назад

      Yes the wiring goes down the Right hand side - same as the video

    • @petermenzies1714
      @petermenzies1714 3 года назад +1

      @@BritannicaRestorations I thought it seemed wrong but wasn’t sure if it would catch on hi/lo & difflock linkages etc. Think disco manual shows opposite side? How is loom secured, mine may be missing clips or bracket as none present. Looks like tunnel out again, that’s the problem when you pay so called experts to do something, you end having to put it all right yourself anyway. Grrr! Wiring, broken studs, grommets missing, pipes all bent! If anyone has a good photograph of late 300Tdi gearbox wiring with tunnel removed I’d appreciate it so I can do it properly.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  3 года назад

      The loom on a Disco is on the left - the Defender one weaves through the linkages - not connected to much - I put a bit of plastic sheathing to protect before boxing up

    • @carltonr3417
      @carltonr3417 3 года назад

      I have the exact same question regarding the wiring loom placement (RHD 300tdi). I ran mine on the passenger side because I thought it was supposed to considering the length of the harness. It just seemed more logical given it’s away from the linkages and the fact I couldn’t really see where it attaches. Mike, would you mind doing a walk through of all the wiring loom, speedo cable, accelerator cable, breather pipes etc where they’re supposed to run and attach along the way. That way it would take the guess work of it, for us that care about putting things back to factory. Also, I believe there is a bracket that supports the air cleaner mount that bolts to the block. Mines missing. Could you possibly show that piece so I could make one and where it’s supposed to attach? Cheers!
