  • Shakespeare Sigma Fly Combo review at South Elmham Lakes.
What a great day for a fly fishing session at South Elmham Lakes on the Norfolk / Suffolk border. Its February and I was in a T-shirt!
Thought I'd spend a day testing the Shakespeare Sigma Fly Combo I've just been sent by Serious Fishing.
The Sigma combo is a great fly fishing rod and reel combo. Whether you're just starting out or after another rod.
The Shakespeare Sigma Fly Combo comes in 3 weights: 7ft 3 weight, 8ft 4 weight and 9ft 5 weight and retails at £96.99
The Sigma fly combo pretty much comes ready to use, all you need is some leader and a fly
These combos provide the fly angler with a complete fly outfit that is ready to fish.
The performance and quality of the Sigma fly rods and reels are proven and we have matched the relevant rods with a WF fly line that matches them perfectly.
The design of the cordura tube means that the reel can be kept on the rod at all times.
Varying blue/white/black colour pattern designed to blend naturally with open blue water conditions.
Sigma Graphite reel pre loaded with backing, flyline and braided loop. The reel is really good quality although not a massive arbour but is perfect for still water fishing.

I’m a big fan of the Shakespeare sigma combos I think they are the best starter setup you can buy…. I have one as a spare in 7 weight and have also tried it to catch carp up to 10lbs in the summer ….. good vid mate

Cheers. I’m planning to use it for Chub this summer as well using a big black foam beetle or daddy long legs.

Those shakespeare combos are so good as a first rod and reel. I spent 3 times that much on my first outfit, then bought an 8ft 4# combo for buttons off ebay and was so impressed ive since bought a 9ft 5# too.

I always use cortland 444 blue intermidate line it helps me find the fish at depth with the count down method only time I use my floating line is dry fly or washing method all the very best pal tightlines.

Interesting, I've got myself one of those 9ft.#5 sigma rods for very cheap. However I've noticed that the blanks are hollow, now my fishing buddy says that the rod has been tampered with and therefore not good anymore, but I think it's made hollow originally to keep production cost low. What do you gentlemen think?

Tbh I’ve never noticed. But what you’re saying sounds like a possibility

I am new to fly fishing and bought a 9 foot 6# rod. Am confused on what leader to buy. Do I buy a floating leader?

    • @Vildmark
      @Vildmark  Год назад

What line are you using? Floating, sinking or intermediate?
Leader wise I mainly use a standard tapered leader and then just use a floatant (like mucillin or Gino) if dry fly fishing or a sinkant if fishing with a intermediate or sinking line.

@@Vildmark The rod combo came with a floating line! Does that mean the leader needs to be a floating one? I was wanting to fish wet flies so am thinking I should of bought the next size up combo 7 # weight rod. Is size 6 weight fly rod with floating line more suited to dry fly fishing?
Thanks for your original reply. I am really raw at fly fishing I mainly fish lures in saltwater so any info you pass on to me is really appreciated.

      No that’s fine. Just purchase a standard tapered leader SF Pre-tied Loop Fly Fishing Tapered Leader Nylon(6 packs) 7.5ft 9ft 12ft 0X 1X 2X 3X 4X 5X 6X 7X amzn.eu/d/2ARKnkJ make sure you buy one that matches your rod (if it’s a 6 weight rod get a 6x.
Then if you want to use a dry fly just gink the leader. Gehrke-Feets GINK Fly Pro Original amzn.eu/d/8XW6itd

Mucillin is the best to make a line float. Thames Mucilin Line Grease Red amzn.eu/d/5j8xzte

Gink is better to make your flies buoyant.
