what is sad is that this song is like "secondary" in the movie. Like a background song, if i recall correctly. Also "raining in prom's night" suffer the same fate. Both songs deserve same mainstream as "Greaselighting" or "the one that i want", you know what i mean Oh boy all the soundtrack is great :) "sandy" i love that one too
It's 2023 now, I remember this song when I was a young man when my parents took me and my little brother to watch Grease at the drive in movies... And thankfully, that drive in is still here today in Atlanta, Ga.... STARLIGHT THEATER, on Moreland Avenue... Star Wars.... Jaws. I GUESS YOU CAN FIGURE OUT ABOUT HOW OLD I AM🤣🤣🤣🤣...Lmao...I really miss those times... I'm 54 now, still have my parents with me here healthy and strong .. My dad still talks about when we used to go there in his black 56 Chevy impala...Great times y'all....
Perfect. NO ONE!!! sings this like Johnny Contardo. No one. I hear this, and it's 40 years ago and I'm 12 years old, watching Sha Na Na, totally in love with Johnny.
@@Oriol-oo7jl my parents forced me to watch the show as a child. By that I mean, we only had one TV and they had control of it. Lol. Although I protest it in act like I hated it, I secretly did enjoy it. Now that I’m much older and I watch these clips it really brings back fond memories. they should still have the show on now
I was just about to add my similar comment, a rare phenomenon, not unlike when I listen to Freddie Mercury, or Elvis….I not only hear this song, but I feel it, in my chest❤️
I saw Sha Na Na in 1972. I never knew until recently that many of the former members achieved advanced university degrees after leaving the band. Some went on to pursue academic careers while others became doctors or lawyers. Not your typical rock and roll story!
+jessie james, I'm a singer myself. This song requires ALOT of proper breath technique. Right before Johnny begins singing, he actually looks like an athlete ready to engage in a very strenuous activity.
The best Doo Wop (and the most educated) band in history. There is a reason why Jimi Hendrix refused to play at Woodstock if Sha Na Na wasn't allowed to join...
I have fallen and i can't reach my keg, an apology for WHAT? Are you sure you're asking the right person that question? I have nothing but kind words to say about Johnny and his family!
This brings back so many memories I use to watch this show in the 70s, I love this song and the way johnny sings it is the best I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is an incredible talent!
I’m mesmerized by Johnny’s beautiful voice, and he moves me to tears. But also the incredible and polished moves of Bowzer, Denny, Santini and Donny! So elegantly executed. I will always be a big fan.
I can play this song over and over again and I will never get tired of it...it became difficult to not sing this song now that I know how to play it on guitar!
It’s quite hard to sing this song at this tempo, you’ve got to get those breaths in at the right time while keeping the lyrics flowing, which of course he nails 👍🏼😀😍
Johnny Contardo has an incredible voice. This is one of my favorite Sha Na Na songs. This song makes me wanna watch Grease, which I happen to have on DVD. Johnny Contardo reminds me of a young Billy Crystal.. LOL!
I am taking vocal lessens from Johnny. He has helped me tremendously. I have been singing for over 40 years and just a few lessons I have been taking from Johnny has increased my stamina my breath control. I plan to continue these lessons for as long as I can he is a wonderful teacher he is a wonderful man he is a wonderful performer.
Johnny Contardo es autentico, es la maravillosa voz que es escuchado jamas y decir Que el grupo Shananana tambien tienen unas voces maravillosos de escuchar ,los admiro ,tanto talento
I remember my dad loved this show when i was a kid of 7. Johnny Contardo was my favorite performer. I loved his voice and still do! This song is beautiful and difficult to sing.
I don't know why this song makes me cry. I just love love love this song. Yes Jordan Fisher sings it so well but Sha Na Na has a special place in my heart forever because of this performance.
I love 🌟SHA NA NA and used to watched their Classic TV Show back in the 📺1970's. Awesome Master talents from the legendary Line🌟up of SHA NA NA: Johnny, what a amazing Vocal range he has.-💫🍃
Que gran canción y que gran vocalista, se le perdona toda "excentricidad".. ningún cantante actual lo hace con esa calidad en vivo, NINGUNO. Mención especial para los bailarines... Excelente material
I have been following "doo wop" music for about 55 years. Still love it today. When I first songs by Sha Na Na, I didn't take them seriously. I'm a purist and didn't feel they gave the songs the correct consideration. I felt they were recording bad cover versions. Because of you tube today I hear a singer like Johnny Contardo and can really appreciate his sound. Thanks
Sha na na and Johnny gave me my deeply-rooted love of rock & roll. The rest has - as they say - become history. I love this beautifully nostalgic song. 'Those first chords remind me of The night that I first fell in love..." Such a tough song to sing... Much breath control required. x
Havent seen these guys in a thousand years stumbled upon them on you-tube & i had forgotten just how talented they were. Thank you for bring back REAL music...
I love the fact that someone actually mentioned RANGE on this song, it's an incredible feat that a lot of people don't understand or appreciate. Great upload!
How is such a voice possible?🥇🤔
Pure golden!😆😁🙃🤩👍

Totally underrated voice! That guy's voice is sublime!
Johnny's voice is outstanding!

NOBODY I SAY NOBODY can sing this song like Johnny:) the best ever voice:)
You're absolutely right....what a voice.
pron
francescogeo ur wrong as vinnie medugno is brilliant signing it .
Agree! ❤️
No, but Asa Elliott comes pretty close!
Johnny owns this song !!! His vocal ability is astounding 😊
My favorite song from Grease! His voice is everything! "My heart arranges a melody, that's never the same, a melody that's calling your name."🎶💖
Such a pure voice. And such great musicians and entertainers to back him up.
Johnny's Voice is as golden as his suit
he used to give singing lessons. dont know if he still does
He still does at The Performer's Academy in Orange County.
So is his personality!
He's a nice guy
That voice cuts through me like a knife, right to the heart!!! I was so in love with Johnny!!!
What you experienced was a massive crush, and I felt that way, too!

The two guys in lame dancing in the middle are a doctor and a lawyer.
@@truttman I thought you meant their dancing was lame , rather than their trousers.
Yes all the guys are well educated
I didn't know but it sure is amazing to know
Meaning.... they regretted badly while being in the band.
I've watched this video over 50 times. It's THAT good.
yes me too..it only gets better . never gets fed up of it.

Glenda Paul yes i read that he gives voice lessons...as you put it vocal coaching.
the person who designed that gold suit and made them wear it should be shot.one of the ugliest thingson earth
Thanks everyone for your awesome comments!

Super vocals! I try emulating them, and fail miserably. Timeless.
Omg. THE Johnny Contardo himself! Dear Sir, you have superb voice.
*Bows down*
Why wouldn’t we! You’re fantastic! Heavenly voice. Thank you!
Watching now...I used to play tennis with you in the early 70s at Devotion....Russ Lobar
Johnny sings exceptionally well. Sha Na Na and I have most if not all of their music. Long live Sha Na Na!
These vocals are just so clean--I never get tired of listening to them.
Wow his voice is so beautiful! Just Amazing
Johnny Contardo...one of the best voices in the business. I still get goosebumps after all these years! ♥
I don't. I still smile and blush!
Used to watch this show as a kid. Man this guy can sing....
He was my first boyfriend
Me too. I'm 50 and I'd remembered that show.
stacy seabroooks, YOU were one of Johnny's girlfriends?
I've been searching for this song for so long 😭 I would hear it on the radio and I fell in love with it. Finally I found it 😫
That's funny. That's what the songs lyrics say. Also song comes out in Grease in the school dance scene.
Beautiful, Classic Song! Excellent Video!
Man Johnny Contardo can sing. When I was a kid in the 70's, he was my favorite singer. I sure miss good clean fun shows and music like this.
one of the greatest songs ever imo!
Johnny nails it! Can't be an easy song to sing as his voice has to go higher and higher. But he nails it!
I’m listening to it RIGHT NOW!!! This band is got an awesome sound!!! Such rhythmic patterns in synchronized singing!
yeah I agree, it's the best song in grease....and only played in the background.
only played in the background in the movie. It's a featured song in the stage musical.
@@adkesq4 And also the one that John Travolta sang along with Johnny Contardo in the film "Grease" at the dance.
Johnny's song! Nobody does it better..
You said it!
Johnny is beyond a fantastic singer
He was BORN that way!
This is absolutely magic!
We grew up with SHANANA music...tqvm
The best Doo Wop (and the most educated) band in history. There is a reason why Jimi Hendrix refused to play at Woodstock if Sha Na Na wasn't allowed to join...
JOHNNY CONTARDO OWNS THIS SONG !! NOONE CANT SING IT LIKE HIM !
DOOWOPFOREVER. BY DAVE !! !09/03/2020 !
LOVE IT ALL !!!!
My GOD, he knocked this song out of the universe. I think this was his best performance, and yes, he owns this song.
As I listen to this I just can't stop saying, "that's insane" How can someone possibly sing this good?! Excellent singing, amazing arrangement!
God gives everyone gifts, and he gave Johnny the gift of his outstanding singing voice!

Simply, singing at it's best. This is an extremely tricky song to sing and Johnny makes it look easy. Fantastic!
Great singer and his falsetto was second to none!
I’m mesmerized by Johnny’s beautiful voice, and he moves me to tears. But also the incredible and polished moves of Bowzer, Denny, Santini and Donny! So elegantly executed. I will always be a big fan.

Johnny Contardo is one of the greatest singers ever and just like Jay Black he can still pump out a fabulous performance.
Johnny now has his own RUclips Channel, and he's cooking!
what a voice...not many things can make me sigh in satisfaction but this is it :) perfection
I love these videos. Such great music and memories. Wish they could be "upscaled" to 4K .

Just been watching the film grease here in the UK on TV and this song is the best song and the best part of the film.......

ALL of the singers from Sha Na Na were outstanding, and they took turns singing their songs, so Johnny DID get breaks from time to time!

Kudos to Mr. Contardo. This is song is so difficult to sing. The key is high and the falsetto is crazy. Great song.
He sings this song better live than on the recording. Especially the "cry-y-y" part without it being so cheesy. What a great singer!
