I've never heard another steel picker who has the touch and "feel" for country music the way Dave does...I've heard some who were close but not quite Dave. As an on air disc jockey way back when I was in my 20s I heard many of the great ones in person at various concerts as well as in Nashville.....Dave is unique.
I have sit and listened to one of the finest steel guitar players play Bob Wills growing up and to me it is a dying art and I have to say that this is wonderful to listen to.... just the clean sounds of the steel... makes me miss my Grandpa
I've listened to a lot of others on RUclips playing the steel but I always keep coming back to see/hear Dave. Not many like him around....There's "not bad"....."pretty good"...and then there's Dave. The best I've heard. Bravo, Dave.
Beautiful music, also Beautiful, humble person..yup, I'm in love. !!!! This music is on everytime I feel low,, and when I feel high.. Takes me back to when country music was "music!!" Carry on ,,you are special!
One of my all time favorites! So nice to hear someone who played it the almost identical style and timbre as my old old Buddy Jackie Fidler had done on his #007 Emmons!!!! 💜👍🤠
Man, Can you play steel !!!!! What talent!!!! How exciting it is to watch you weave your magic. I love watching you play. I have your CD's. but it is not the same as watching you. What a treat!! Chuck Brewer, Sacramento, California
David, thanks for pointing me to your backup tracks! I played a ShoBud Double back in the day. Seems there were two types of players, those that squeezed high volume 32 notes into an 8 beat bar while yanking every level and pedal they had, and players like you...the type of musician that 'flowed' with the music rather than engage in 'look at me go' musical posturing that fully distracted from the performance. People ask me 'who do you listen to." That's an easy one-David Hartley! Thank YOU !
Hi Dave I just stumbled on you sight...My brother used to play steel in the 50's He was fantastic and we are trying to get back at it again.....I turned him on to your sight hoping he will get the fever again.. Thank Dave you are fantastic.. Howard
I may have commented on this before, but I don't care! FAN-DAM-TASTIC Dave!!! You'd be a huge asset as a session player over on this side of the globe...guaranteed!
absolutely great! i am thinking about learning pedal steel, i play guitar and i love country music and this just seems so damn good to listen to, it must be a joy to play! it does look hard though!!! but it is inspiring to watch your videos so i think i will give it a try!
Dave, you have super talent, and I'm so glad you've brought me memories of my dad playing his Emmons. He picked up the name Buddy, after the world class Buddy Emmons. Dang...ya'll woulda had a great time as a duo.
I've nearly run out of superlatives to try and describe your playing, Dave............I'm astonished every time I come to your site and I've been following you for quite some time now. You are THE ne plus ultra of pedal steel pickers. BRAVO from the USA!
David, I have a steel, too. And alllll of that music is in there, I just haven't learned how to get it out yet. But I am watching you, and I am learning. Chuck Brewer
awesome as usual Dave, like otheres on here I learn from you even though at this point I only play laps steel. but even you started somewheres at some point. You are an inspiration !!!
I wish to thank you all for your comments to my youtube broadcasts. It is very much appreciated. I do try and contact you all personally if there's any questions that I have been asked, and I also make note of all your requests too. I have some great ideas for future videos and I will try and play some of your requests also. Wishing you all a happy Christmas and a New Year. Sincerely, David Hartley
David Heartly your awsome good playing I lived in Nashville TN for 2 years from 1984 to 1986 and I have fallen in love with Country and western music and scottish folk music with peddle steel guitar also. how long have you been playing? and did you teach your self? Andy Bowe
Hello David, You are a fantastic E9 player. This is one of the best postings I think. Many thanks for sharing this with us - very stimulating! Do you by any chance also play any jazz, C6? I would realy love to see and hear it! Regards from NL. Ad
Please tell me where I can buy your cd, I have played drums for 43 years, country music, have played with some fantastic steels players, but I could listen to you 24-7, your style is so smooth, just love steel music and yours is hard to beat. Please tell where to but your music.
How does it feel, Dave, to have become the standard by which all other steel pickers are judged? I've heard some of the most famous steel pickers live and you're better than any of them.
Larry Perriman Have been enjoying you (David Hartley) and john stannard since i 1found you on utube. I am 76 years old , a retired never much of a pro musician, but i just have to say you are the absolute best pedal steel player i have ever heard. Your expression, note length, volume at start and end of expressio n, sharpneess and softness of pick.........i am juat overwhelmed. At tracks the end of each video track, i find myswlf chuckling lik3 a high school kid. Johs picking is as superb for country,, though he has a bit f a liking for the lower registers, Believe i read he had recently passed. If so, my condolences. Dear friends are so difficult to lose in later life. Almost like a wife. Hope you stjll poston utube so i can still enjoy your music. Perhaps, if you have the time you migt list your equipme t set up, all pieces. So i can hopefull get youer samae sound when played back by tape or cd. By the wasy, was your change from Raines to your new Justice steel guitar as good as hoped, andwhyshift? An upgrade? .Larry Perriman 2609 N 9th St West Monroe, LA. 71291 perrimanski@outlook.com
