Just brings tears to my eyes...our Native American tribe always loved that song. Good ole Patsy Cline. I fall to pieces...what I wouldn’t give to go back to see my tribe alive, and well smiling sitting around on our reservation. Speaking our Native language with little use of English, eating, laughing, us kids running in the woods, and enjoying life. Times have changed, but good Country like this never does.
I spent all day watching these lap steel and Pedal steel videos. Absolutely loving it! This may be the ticket to get a guy with messed up hands back on an instrument! Thank you!!!
i have no words that have not been said about you and john stannad playing. you bring back to life GOOD country music. please keep up the good work. a country western fan. thank's a lot robert and sandy bryan
Carry on My British Friend. I,m a Yank, and I,ve heard nobody better, I play multiple instruments, and sing pro. Kudos to John Stannard also. He is amazing. Keep it up and thanks. Eddie Waller
Jerry Byrd said long ago, "There are two ways to play a musical instrument; 1. From your brain to your hands and 2. From your brain, through your heart, and to your hands". Later he said, "There are three ways to play music; melody, melody and MELODY!" I believe that David Hartley fits both of these proverbial gems beyond a doubt. Truly one of THE greatest steel guitar players ever He knocks me out and makes it look SO easy. Yeah right! Try it! Huh? I've been trying it for over 73 yrs and it just "aint" there. Oh well. But then Jesus gives us ALL talents ("gifts"). They are just not all the same. Praise His Holy Name.
@@stevenhickenjr Thank you Steven. It is my considered belief that the reason many steel players ad-lib most of the time; is that they do not want to take the time to learn the melody. So then they can just follow the chord structure and play ANY thing they want. Some call it, "Rewriting the song! Western Swing is a perfect example of it. Where EVERY musician ad-lib's more often than not. So they can play ANY thing and just "fram" away. It was best described by a great steel player (Mac Atcheson) who said, "It reminds me of a little boy in the back yard shooting a 22 rifle into the air. He aint hittin nothin; he's just shootin". Sad.
this man and his talent could lead the best band country music has ever heard, not the crap they play today the good stuff he plays ( the man is gifted )
I thought I detected a British or Australian accent. I'm REALLY blown away now by Daves playing. He could have been born in Alabama...Tennessee....Lousiana....somewhere in the South. Why does he have so much talent and I have none?
One who did have that accent you detected was Tony Browne. So many exceptional pickers that put you in your place just to listen. All we can do is practice like the devil and hope.
Hi Dave, Yet another on my favourite list ! Fabulous song, uniquely rendered !!! - songs like this one stand on their own, and a "plain" rendition is all that is needed !!! Chris (from Watton)
I started teaching myself steel guitar last week. This is what I hope to be able to play like someday. I've got a long way to go. Thanks Dave for being a great inspiration.
Dave, the worlds most beautiful music, you are THE best! i deal with ptsd on a daily basis.Your music is better than all the drugd in the world. Keep playing..
What can I add to what's already been said?? Phenomenal; heartbreaking, and stunning. Thank you for your incredible craftsmanship, soul, and dedication...God is smiling!
david hartley omg what a great pedelsteel player.the best is ever heard, you make me happy the way you play country music ,i always enjoy it when i hear you, you are the best .best regards john from holland.
Why do you use the Lord's name in vain to make your point? Is it not enough to say that David Hartley is one of the ALL time greats when it come to the steel guitar? Huh?
Hey David, I think its time for another British Invasion! Pack up your goods and board a flight on British Airways fly to Nashville set up all your equipment on the Grand Ole Opry stage and let those Ryman walls soak up the good ole country music and crying steel its been missing for many years. Outstanding quality and musicianship right there! Great Job! Hope to see you soon! Take Care! Jim
@@MrPatdeeee Yep. Back in the day you had to catch two flights. When my dad went in 2003 they had to stop at Atlanta then get an internal flight to Nashville. Now you can catch 1. Think it's to do with Nashville being a more popular tourist destination now.
What amazes me is the tone this awesome steel guitar artist gets out of 8 strings and 3 pedals(A B and C). I am a lap steel player and i learn so much listneing to you Dave, maybe there is a pedal steel in my future after all at age 64???

Thank you for posting your beautiful talent. I have always listened to Lloyd Green and until now haven't been able to find anyone close to him. You have mastered a very complicated instrument. Thanks again for your shining beauty.
Dave you were one of my main inspirations to actually get a Pedal Steel. I have a Six String...so I feel a little limited. Can't wait to get a ten string ….You're the Water Mark to aim for!
