    Ah, cool! I saw on either one of your videos that y'all had attended and collaborated, but just found this one.
    I had to retire my 30+ year old Craftsman table saw and just picked up a secondhand Ridgid (heavy Sumbi...well, you know). Tryin to put several ideas together to come up with the most versatile, universal outfeed/work table with storage, clamping, holding extras. I enjoy watchin the whole RUclips woodworkin gang. It keeps me energized and pumped for each new project. From southeast Texas...Thanks y'all!

    Built one on Memorial Day and it was a fun project and perfect for my skill level as I'm just getting into woodworking. Now I'll look for the video to add a pipe clamp vise. I'll be building your workbench soon then the miter station. Thanks Jay for putting out some of the best instructional videos out there.

    Whenever I see two people working at the same time in Jay's videos I immediately assume it's some clever editing trickery... this time it actually is genuinely two different people! Love the table, Jay - nice clean design and simple sturdy construction.

    Thanks guys! I did a lot of research on first workbenches and easy outfeed tables (the tool that builds the tool) and decided to build this one this weekend. I don't have a brad nailer yet so I used my Kreg jig and pocket screws for attaching the top surfaces to the skirts and regular spax screws to reinforce the face to face joints. This thing is surprisingly solid! I'm going to find some height--adjustable feet or casters that lock to get it even with the top surface of my sawstop and maybe make some mods for the clearance of the dust port as well (which is currently crashing in to the lower shelf). Thanks so much!!! Next up: Brad nailer!

    Awesome vid guys! April, just watch your fingers with that brad nailer. Can't count how many times a brad has shot out the side of a piece. Keep up the great work!

    • @JayBates
      @JayBates  8 лет назад +1

      If they shoot out of the side of the board you are holding the gun 90 degrees in the wrong direction. The nails will tend to bend to the left or right of the head of the gun. Orient the gun so that the bend will go into material instead of poke through into space.

    I made two of these soon after this video came out and they are holding up great. One is my pocket hole/drilling station (including a tabletop drill press) and the other is used primarily for a charging station and hardware storage (I added shelves on the back). The only thing I did differently was to glue and pocket hole the four-inch pieces for each leg; mostly because the plywood I used was slightly bowed. Anyway, if they continue holding up then I'll build one more (and add to it) for a miter station.

    Great Build and inspiration for our shop reconfiguration.
    One nit ....
    Dimensions for the 4 rails shown in green on cutlist should be 46.5" not 48" to match
    the two panel dimensions.
    Missed it on the first build caught it on the second.
    Thanks again

    Jay you're a true master at what you do. Top notch editing as always. Great project content. My comments might sound a little generalized or could be considered generically favorable towards you, if they were just kind of glossed over. I'm probably looking for a particular word but can't think of it. What I'm trying to say is, your humor, skill at editing, filming, and structuring your videos is second to none here on RUclips. Few come extremely close though. I always love the projects and the SketchUp tutorials. I think your SketchUp videos are some of the best around, even still! Top notch just doesn't seem to do you enough justice. Good job Jay!

    Just built this at my cabin shop, the plywood was very bent because the "shop" is outside, so I used screws instead of brad nails. Two coats of spar varnish because it will get wet from time to time. Easy addition to the cabin.

    This is great, yall. As one who always overcomplicates things, this will be a great help to me. I don't remember the specifics of you two's shops at home, but I'm preparing to move my shop to the basement, because of hot and cold weather. I'm planning to go with a much smaller table saw, and am considering a DIY panel cutting saw. I have the wall space, and it would eliminate the need (and safety concern) for a large table saw that wouldn't get used for much besides rough cutting plywood. Have either of you an opinion about that? Thanks.

    When running a big piece of plywood through a table saw you should start with your hands to the left & walk your hands to the right as you push it through. Keeping a 30 degree angle between your hands & the fence will keep the plywood from moving away from the fence.
    TELL APRIL!!!!

    how is the table holding up? I only ask bc the consistent over builder in me is thinking "glue and brads only...." But I often over build, and am wondering if I should start trusting glue and brads more to get the job done. It would definitely speed up my builds if it's strong enough.

    • @JayBates
      @JayBates  8 лет назад +1

      Modern glue is the main holding power. The brad nails just secure pieces until the glue dries. This design has a lot of wide face joints that allow a lot of glue surface area.

    Hey Jay been watching your videos for a few years. I wanted to know what kind of finish if any you would put on a table like this or workbench. I appreciate the help and keep up the great videos.

    How strong will this table be compared to something made with 2x4s. Also will it be strong enough if expanded to 4ftx4ft.
