Even now in 2024, the XJ 900 S is a motorcycle of a fantastic formate!
Nice riding position (who needs a "adventure bike"?) great fuel consumption value: 5,2 l / 100 km. Smple, reliable, shaft drive and a beautiful classic inline four aircooled look. There is no modern bike with these attributes!
I will keep my 1995 XJ 900 S Diversion because there is no adequate option on the market at this time.

Woow 220km/h amazing for a touring bike that was usually used by traffic police in a lot of countries, this is really a smooth bike with nice sounds, plus it feels super stable with no drama at that high speed.

Such consistency - the fastest i ever saw on the clock on the one i owned was 134 mph, which is just a couple of mph slower than this. I absolutely loved mine. So underrated! It's a Sports/Tourer, but i used the Sports side of mine most of the time. So 'sure-footed', she never ever let me down. We knew each others' limitations and had respect for each other. I used to get the tyres (Bridgestone BT-020's) right over on to the edge of the tread regularly without any problems whatsoever. The fact that she was a 'shafty' never even occurred to me when i was tear-arse-ing along. In fact, the only real 'issue' was the brakes, but even then, once you had gotten used to them, you knew the score and 'allowed' for it. I miss my old girl and i've always said i would happily have another one in a heartbeat. Engine was pretty much bullet-proof. Despite the many criticisms, i have to say this is a much mis-understood and underrated bike. Each to their own, i guess... 😉

Really nice comment! Yeah it's an awesome bike and can be had for really cheap money here in Germany. In this condition in which the one is in this video for under 2000€. He got that bike from a dealer for 1700€ with new tyres and a full carbo clean. Sadly he sold it because it got too heavy for my friend.

I had one for a time and really liked it, by far the best motorway bike I'd ever ridden however I pushed it a bit too much and had a couple of mishaps, to be honest it wasn't really the bike for me, I wanted too much from it and didn't really understand or appreciate what it was, even when not pushing it hard my riding style was not compatible with it, I chopped it in for the Honda CBF600 that had just came out then and was much more what I needed, even though it felt small straight after the diversion, I could take the absolute .... out of the CBF and it let me, it was the perfect bike for me I'd never have another as we are not made for each other but I always remember the big divvy fondly.

I had one of these a few years ago.
Smooth power and a joy to ride, but unfortunately just a bit too tall for me (I’m 175cm) and I was on tiptoes every time I stopped.
I sold it and got a Triumph Thunderbird 900, which is a bit less refined but more my style … and I can get both feet flat on the ground.
But for a taller rider and as a long distance cruiser, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Sorry bike was sold a little while ago. Can't give you any exact answer on RPMs or fuel consumption. But it's a great bike, that can be had for very cheap. If you can buy one, get one. Only downside is its weight and well, no 6th gear. ^^
      Thanks for the comment!

I daily a XJ900 now and I usually get 17 kilometers per liter. I did a 400KM tour once and hit 22 kilometers per liter. Given its a 25L tank you can expect about ~400 kilometers before needing a refill (given that you drive conservatively).
