oh my gosh, my mother did this with me as a teen 50 years ago every night before sleep and it literally changed my entire self outlook. It was so powerful and really helped to shape my adult life even now! Thanks for sharing these simple tools that we can use.
Sorry but when someone is soo exhausted it feels like gaslighting if someone says "don't complain, you have so much to be grateful for!". Sometimes people just need a break, or they need a major change in their life because things are not ok. When someone is át a breaking point and instead of acknowledging their feelings, all they get is subtle hints that they are ungrateful.... it's not helpful. People do often already guilt themselves that everything is all their fault, when it's not. In my opinion, they need emotional support and a change in their life, not to be told to go on with same lifestyle and be more grateful.
Absolutely, invalidating the difficulty of your experience will make you feel worse, not better. This video is about practicing gratitude for self, so you acknowledge the effort you are putting in, the things that are going well, and yes, also how much you are struggling. This awareness can help you notice not only that things are not okay, but also the things that are going well. Having that perspective can sometimes give you the courage to make a change in your life if it's needed. Thank you for writing and I hope this helps clarify.
@heartinmind thank you, it does help. You are very kind. Sorry. Maybe I overreacted a bit because once someone deeply hurt me by not acknowledging my pain and I am overly sensitive when this topic comes up. I deeply appreciate it that you wrote back with kindness and understanding.. You are a lovely person and an excellent psychologist. 💜

So wondeful to hear your mom taught you this! Having gratitude for self has many positive benefits in our lives. Keep up the practice!
