Thanks for being honest. I purchased my Hydrowave refurbished and really liked how quiet it was, we even paid $500 for some extensive repairs after 6 years and now we have a bad mode shifter. I would love to repair this myself but there are too many unknowns and we will be getting a new washer.
Good job on sticking with it. The value in doing it is what you learned, the video you made for others and now the thing will be good for years again for not too much $ compared to a new machine. The wrench you bought was laser cut. That’s what the striations on the edges represent. Probably would be better off with a socket and impact wrench. In a similar situation, maybe make some kind of dam with plasticine or putty around that nut to contain a pool of penetrating oil/spray for a few hours. Any area where there’s a seal, you need to be careful of scarring the surfaces. That collar thing with the spline that you had to cut off: I'm stumped. Glad you pointed it out. Any bearing or seal that's been in there ten years should probably be replaced as a matter of course. Just do it. Getting ready to do mine right now and, thanks to your video, I'll run the motor after I remove the belt to check it first.
Just about everything that could have went wrong did with my fix. The good news is that the washer is still in service today and works great! *Knock on wood*
Do you still have this machine? I just posted a video on replacing the bearing only in the mode shifter. I was set on not buying the $170 part. Replaced all parts related to the shaft as well. Tub bearing, tub seal, washers, split ring. Put all back together and it runs so nice and quiet. Replacing the bearing only was challenging but well worth it! Watching your video was very very familiar! Thanks for posting
The hub nut would not come off with the spanner wrench. I used WD 40 and sprayed the hub nut for each of 3 days and then let it sit. Then I used the spanner wrench and was able to get the nut off.
These machines are not good. The mode shifter is notorious for bearing issue or an issue where the drum just moves back and forth on wash. Hard job but mode shifter can be replaced. If I had a HydroWave with a bad mode shifter I’d scrap it since it’s not worth fixing. It’s a very hard job anyways and requires taking apart the entire machine.

Sounds like my kind of luck thinking it's gonna be an easy job. Thanks for the descriptions

I do! Still working great, which is crazy. I'd be happy if I could get another 10 years out of it. Glad you got your working again.
The struggle is real.🤣 I'm officially not trying to fix my washing machine
It was not joke. Took me 20+ minutes to explain how painful the repair was. *THE GOOD NEWS* It is still working great!

Oh and it's PB Blaster I bet.
